Facts:
1. Baseball last won the SEC in 1989- 23 years ago. Since then, basketball has won 2 SEC titles, and Football has played for one.
2. We have made 6 NCAA Tourneys in baseball the last 10 years- Basketball is 6 for 11.
3. Baseball has 2 non-losing SEC seasons in the last 10. So does football. Basketball has 9.
4. We have had the fewest players drafted out of the SEC in the last 5 years- meaning we have had the worst talent of any SEC school.
5. Baseball has one CWS appearance in the last 13 years. Baseball has only 1 Final Four appearance in history- 27 years ago. Basketball has one also- 16 years ago.
6. In the last 20 years- we have finished as high as 3rd in the SEC ONE TIME. Once. In 20 years.
Cohen's 6th place finish last year was our 3rd best in the last 10 years. Turning this turd around is tougher than many of us thought it would be. I dont get on Cohen's *** much because I have been able to recognize that we werent this great baseball power to begin with. And I am not so shortsighted as to see beyond the next game.
We have a young team that should be pretty good next season. But we do the things this year young teams do- make bad throws to allow runners to move up a base, miss hit-n-runs, dont get crucial bunts down, walk too many hitters, inconsistent play, and the big one- unable to win close games.
We will indeed be better next year and have higher expectations- and they will be realistic expectations for a change. Stratton has a 5.00+ ERA last season- and that was with the new bats- so that was really ******- but he grew uip this year. And I'm sure we will have other young players grow up and do the same for next year.
