MJ's top 5 coach options if Stoops doesn't work out...

1. Rex Ryan
2. Lane Kiffin
3. Neal Brown
4. PJ Fleck (Western Michigan head coach)
5. Jeff Brohm

MJ just mentioned this on KSR. Said #1 and #2 would definitely make things fun, but he'd take any of these in a heart beat if Stoops doesn't work out. But he still hopes Stoops can make it work.

Rex Ryan ???? Don't think he would leave the NFL for UK unless he gets fired from the Bills.

Neal brown has yet to prove he is a winner yet at Troy. Ryan is a head scratcher

I'm sure there are other names out there. The idea that there are only 5 names and Matt has all 5 of them is silly. Every coaching search we've seen there are names that pop up that nobody expects. Now I get it that it is a typical for Barnhart to go after those names but they do exist.

Rex Ryan started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Eastern Kentucky. Maybe he'd like to come back to Kentucky? But yeah, I don't see him leaving the NFL...at least not anytime soon.

You got that right. I'm not sure Stoops was on a list when Joker left.

1. Rex Ryan will never coach college football
2. Lane Kiffin has proven he's not a head coach
3. Neal Brown needs more experience before he gets in this mess
4. Only thing I know about Fleck is that he was on the SVP SportsCenter
5. I would hate to have a Brohm here but I actually think he's the best candidate right now

Rob Ryan would be more realistic than Rex Ryan but he'd have to cut his hair for Mitch to consider him. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Doesn't Brohm and his entire family hate UK? I think he's waiting for Petrino to slip up at UofL and then he'll take that job.

sub standard list. career NFL guy, failed former head coach who couldnt win at bigger more high profile programs, & 3 small school guys.

Butch Davis, Jim Tressell, Tommy Tubberville. veterans who have built & won at power 5 schools. lets copy the Jerry Claiborne/Rich Brooks model in the future since it somewhat worked for us in our past.

I'd go a step further - suspect the UL slush fund known as their 'foundation' is probably paying a portion of Brohms salary....or paying him under the table, to keep him in the fold & in line of succession. And I think they did the exact same thing with Petrino during his time at WKU, they have seemingly shamelessly allowed themselves to be transformed into UL's AAA feeder program.

He thinks we're going to take a guy from the NFL? That's laughable.
Yeah, but we have people on this board that constantly beat the "all we have to do is ask" drum when it comes to all of the ridiculous potential hires out there. In their deluded minds, we don't get great coaches because MB is not doing his job by calling coaches like Tom Herman, or hell even Les Miles ... And, I don't know what to say to that type of thinking.

IF there is a need to hire a coach soon, I have to go along with JHB. It doesn't 'move the needle' to get a middle-aged former head coach, but Tuberville, Davis, Tressel would all be coaches that would put a product on the field that would play to it's abilities. Plus they're experienced enough to mask some deficiencies by...coaching and game planning.

The thought of another introductory HC presser with pleas for patience as they 'recruit depth and SEC talent' is so depressing I can't stand to think about it. I naively hold out hope that a light goes on.

Lane Kiffin is a troll. He would jump ship in a heart beat, and I don't see him leaving Saban's side unless a solid program came calling.

Please God, no one who hasn't successfully coached at a big league school in the last 10 years...no more assistants or coaches who wore leather helmets.

Tommy Tuberville hasn't done a great job at UC. I like the idea of finding an older coach to come steady the ship with all the "talent" we have and then try and get a younger coach after that, but Tuberville would not be a good hire.

Lane Kiffin? Really? Ah what the hell why not.
In a weak moment I was thinking all we need is someone who wins. It has been a long 60 years of Kentucky football; and this season is damned depressing. Makes you have weak thoughts. So I retract the "my thoughts exactly about L. Kiffen".

It's wishful thinking at the very best.

UK needs to forget Brohm. He is way too hot of a coach right now. I see LSU getting him before UK or if LSU takes BP he goes to UL.

Coaching at the D1 FBS level is a business, folks forget this. Brohm would listen to a UK offer and may even bite on it. You do what is best for you and yours. The UL angle IMO is way over blown and frankly a bit silly.

Brohm may pass if offered for the same reason other candidates would;for whatever reason(s) UK has been a killing field for coaches.

Yeah, I have a hard time imagining Kiffin taking a job like Kentucky. There is buzz about him and LSU. Who knows if that works out, but he just got paid by USC and has a great gig now.

He can afford to be really choosy.

Still have to make him say no though. He's rumored to have turned down multiple offers last season and he removed the in state clause from his contract for a reason. I assume the Louisville position but still worth asking.

I dont think our job is the disaster that a lot of us believe. New facilities, talented roster and discovering a close recruiting base should make the job more attractive.

1. Briles
2. Hatcher
3. Brohm
4. DC at theOSU ??
5. Malzahn
6. Franklin

Franklin and Briles would be my top choices. Just have to put Art on a short leash. I don't think we'd have those problems at UK. It's a different culture than in Texas.
