And the loss was to now #12 Army. Syracuse beats now unranked Albany and moves up 3. Notre Dame beats "powerhouse" Detroit Mercy and moves up 1. At least Yale went down 6. And Ivies traditionally struggle Week 1 because they play teams with a game or two already under their belt.

As a Loyola guy but Rutgers fan i would say that Rutgers needs to win more of these toss up games to start getting the benefit of the doubt. It feels like they are so close to breaking through but always stumble when they have a chance to make a statement. Army is good but if you want respect you have to win games like this.

The reality is that there is a lot of parity so most teams will stumble a few times, so Rutgers can bounce back but a few statement wins would help.

Loyola for starters would be a big step. This team is young. A lot of guys who haven't played roles before are getting a lot of run. No excuses though. Gotta win.

This week will tell us a lot about this specific group. Loyola is the best team in the country right now. How we respond after losing a game we really should have won (2x the amount of turnovers while losing by 1) will tell us a lot.

Predicting a win would be mindlessly bold, but I expect us to compete and clean up the mistakes we made last week. The clearing was just not acceptable. All gets back to that in the Army game. We turn the ball over 7x less and we win that game by 3.

Dammit, I said "10 spots." We'll be out of the rankings come Saturday unless this team does a complete 180. That loss is gonna crush us this year.

To many opportunities to say that, but we have to win games. One we shouldn't now. No question.

It's early...Saturday was disappointing for everyone, but let's not kick dirt on this team yet...let's take a deep breath and see where they're at on March 24....I know that's hard to do...

With next Saturday looming, it might get worse before it gets better so prepare for that...but hang in there...this team and "Staff" should be judged over the longer term in two phases...1.) After the non conference slate is finished...and then 2.) The big ten season on its own...

The best coaches (in all sports) take the personal they have and mold schemes to FIT what their current roster can do/play schematically....and they should treat every athlete differently knowing what buttons work for what kids...that's what makes a great coach and staff...ultimately it's about putting the players in a position to suceed using their strengths...that's the key to being a great coach

Give the young men some more time, and more importantly give this staff some more time to try and figure some things out (personal & scheme)...

Trust that they are working hard because they are...hopefully adjustments are made to get this rolling in the right direction...I'm counting on it...

They will get it figured it. With this schedule, it just has to happen fast. Loyola is humming right now. It's going to be a huge test.

We have Hofstra, Cuse, farfield, Loyola, and Princeton. We have to figure things out quickly. We can afford maybe 2 ooc losses

Dropping 11 spots to a ranked team by one goal is mind blowing to me. I watch so many sports and im struggling to think of a comparison. That is just....egregious

It does make sense though. Teams ahead of us have good wins or lost to a higher ranked team. UVA should drop after this week

does not make sense as the #1 team in the country loses to an unranked team at home and only goes down 5 spots while Rutgers loses to a ranked Army team and goes down 11 spots. This is setting up to keep us out of the NCAA's again.

I think it’s one of those situations where there’s not enough information. Villanova gets the benefit of the doubt because they lost to PSU. Yale gets the benefit of the doubt because they lost to a team whose only loss is PSU. If Nova tanks in conference, then that will factor in. We need High Point, Colgate, and Nova to lose

We probably never should have moved up as high as 9th in the first place. We did not look very good in that Army game, at all. So the big drop came as no surprise to me. We don't have recent history in our favor either...we are known for coming up short at this point.

At the end of the day, I cannot see the point in fretting about early season rankings. It doesn't matter, at all. Just win the games, don't have stupid losses, and make the darn tournament.

We lost to a team that hasn’t lost and is ranked higher. It makes no sense.

I don’t totally disagree, but I direct you to my comment about there not being much information yet. Who should we be ranked higher than? Keep in mind UVA was 1-1 when these rankings came out.

IMHO it's too early to say it comes down to the AQ. However, beware of the Baltimore Mafia if they don't make the B1G tourney finals.

Way too much lacrosse to go to even consider such a calculus. Starting with Sat.

in the past few seasons we have won these big games early, and then missed winning the big ones down the stretch

I would gladly swap that out and predict it would get us in the tourney

positive momentum matters...it always does for selection committees. no matter what they say.

now, of course, that means we need to win the big games late ;)

Just way too much lax to go. We haven't even played our fourth game yet. Hell, Cornell hasn't play a game yet.

Every game is a season unto itself. With schedule we have, there are tons of opportunities. One at a time, pick our heads up at the end of the season and see where we are.

The focus is improving and limiting the many mistakes we made last week.

This team is so very close to breaking out. Army always has a stifling defense so turnovers are going to happen. Give credit where do. Loyola is very beatable. game at home, team fired up about loss to Army and Loyola has only beaten a not so good Virginia and a very young John Hopkins team. I would say better than 50/50 we win and Army will beat Marist to go 3-0. We go right back to No. 8 with plenty of lacrosse still to play. I was at game Saturday and thought it would be freezing but in the sun it was rather pleasant. Would be great to have a good turnout to watch an upset of the No. 1 team in the country.

I will say I watched a lot of that Uva game yesterday and was not impressed. They play like a car multi level car accident.

Was there as well & yes rather pleasant. Army's D was very good, but we had several unforced turnovers as well.

Army 10 - Marist 4. Caught the last few minutes as they pulled away. Commentator was saying Marist got lights out goal tending in the first half and won the faceoff battle. Army D looked nasty.

I was impressed with their physicality and heart. At times it looked like they have 3 more guys on the field. Frankly, we got beat at our own game.

Lots of video for the kids to learn. I am sure practices are a blast this week.

Army's goalie is filthy. Sometimes you just run into a red hot goalie, like we did on Saturday.
