Mountain Week 8 Predictions and Power Rankings

The battle for 2nd place and some other interesting matchups this week that will define playoff seeding and conference finish.

Roberson @ Asheville- This game will determine who finished 2nd and it could help Robersons playoff chances and seeding. Roberson has been getting better each week and is a legit threat to an Asheville team that struggles to score on decent competition.

McDowell @ Enka- This is a must win game for the titans if they want to sneak in the 4A playoffs. Injuries have really hampered them with their starting QB and RB missing multiple games the last few weeks. They sleptwalk against North Buncombe last week before pulling away. Enka has been somewhat of a disappoinment but is also missing their talented QB. It should be a close game.

Reynolds @ Erwin- Reynolds is really in the drivers seat now about blasting Asheville. If Asheville beats Roberson the conference title is practically theirs. Erwin has been pesky to Reynolds over the years but this years team has no chance.

Okay the only thing I disagree with is TCR, if they beat Asheville they will be undefeated in conference play heading into the ACR matchup in a couple weeks. Even with a TCR loss to Asheville, ACR will need to beat TCR to avoid a 3 way tie for first. The conference title will be decided Oct. 21st when TCR comes to ACR no matter what happens this week at Asheville. ACR HAS to beat TCR to be sole champion of the conference. Of course all this is assuming there aren’t any major upsets.

I take no issue with picking TC to beat Asheville after the performance last week. I only hope the boys can right the ship and quickly. There is still a lot to play for including a possible home playoff game depending how RPIs shake out

I honestly don’t see Asheville losing at home to TCR. I’m not sure TCR is up to ACR and Asheville’s level yet. However, I do think they can put a scare in both if taken lightly. TCR runs the ball ALOT, and that is the strength of our defense so I’m fairly confident from an ACR standpoint. One more thing Titanman, how in the world did NB score 4 td’s on McDowell?? That was a real head scratcher!

Enka was on their backup QB against us and kept running him and we hit him in the second quarter and I believe he got a concussion so they had to use a third stringer the rest of the game, it was ugly! I believe we will have our starting QB back this week and our starting RB is just getting healthy again for the first time since game 3 or 4 so I expect the offense to look ok. The defense has killed McDowell all season and could really mess up their chances at competing the next few years. We have some good players coming up but I worry it will never be enough to compete with Reynolds or Asheville.

Ugh…after a horribly played 1st half we woke up and dominated the second half. We scored on every possession in the game except our two turnovers in the first half. On to the conference title game in two weeks against TCR, gotta win that one or it’s a tie for the top spot! Open date comes at a good time next week.

You guys had your wake up call and will cruise vs TC. Asheville barely hung on against them.

McDowell is just not playing very well. The backup QB is making mistakes and they have too many penalties keeping teams they should be beating by 2 or 3 TD in the game. I will be surprised if we sneak by Erwin at this point.
