Got me thinking. I missed the game where Varnado broke the record. I lived in starkville at the time, but I just didn't go. Wasn't feeling well, and remember thinking "he needs 8. What are the odds he gets 8?" Obviously Varnado had up to 10 blocks multiple times in his career. I was stupid to miss it. What game did you miss that you regret?

Snow Bowl. I went to the SC v. Ohio State Outback Bowl instead. All my buddies in Ybor City were going crazy about our game. Sorry I missed it.

Any of the State wins over Alabama between 1996 and 2007. Was at the 1980 game. Also, was a student at State when Jeff Malone and Co. beat undefeated and 7th ranked Kentucky in 1982.

Last 3 Innings of CWS

It was looking bleak, I was hungry, and there was a bar I wanted to try out before I left Omaha. So, I spent the last 3 inning with my back to a TV so I didn't have to watch it. Yeah, I'm an *******. I hear the fans gathered around the dugout and did the maroon/white cheer after the game. When I read that, it got me thinking about what kind of fan I am. Those guys were good kids and when they were down I abandoned them. I'm going to try to remember this through the football season and try to not take it so seriously. /bourbonoff

That's easy. State - 6, Bama - 3. I had planned on going, but earlier in the year I saw MSU lose to USM 42-14 and Bama beat USM 42-7. So I figured I didn't need the misery of seeing what Bama would do to us. Doh!

I've made it to all notable games in my lifetime baseball, basketball, and football. It helps that I live in Starkville.

Games I wish I wouldn't have went too,

Maine
Troy St
Ryder
Auburn 3-2
Whoever we played in the NIT stansbury's last game(minutemenn or something) - terrible all around
Ole Miss 45-0 year. Crooms last game. It was painful to watch
West Virgina - ran triple option all over us. They scored 4 TD's in the first quarter. 28-0 after 15 minutes

Last year's A&M game gets an honorable mention. Down by like 3 scores at end of first quarter.

I still have my untorn student ticket. I had to choose a Saturday to cover for my on-campus job that fall. Being low man on the totem pole my choices were limited to a few football game weekends. I fatefully chose the Bama game thinking our chances were slim anyway.

Runner-up. The 1998 SEC championship game. Lived in the ATL area at the time. I did have a conflict that I could have gotten out of but then figured finding tickets was going to be next to impossible and cost a fortune if I did find any. I promised myself I would not miss our next appearance and the direction Jackie had us going I was convinced that would not be long. Sigh, oh well.

2007 Super Regional. I had a flight from NOLA the next day and couldn't make it.

But fortunately (or maybe unfortunately?) the list of games that I wish I hadn't been at is longer than the list of games I wish that I had.

I was actually at that game

and what made it so great was that I went with a couple of Alabama fans and all I heard the whole day of the game was how lowly MSU didn't have a chance and they had won all these games in a row and this was going to be a cakewalk. After that game their dispositions were absolutely priceless. I couldn't say too much at the time because they were my ride home but it was great. During pregame I still can't believe they had the skydivers jump. It was so windy it was a miracle just the one had that accident. I never knew a human body bounced before I saw that. I know another landed over in sorority row but I suspect that may have been on purpose. That was the coldest game I think I have ever been to.

Football- 2004 vs. Florida, I was a student but was boycotting the game out of protest because we had lost to Maine the week before.

Basketball- Also 2004 when we beat Bama in Tuscaloosa to win the SEC. Came back from down 20.

All you people saying '96 Final Four, '98 SEC Ch'ip, and '13 CWS.....That's pretty amazing. Amazingly terrible. The games you wish you'd been at the most were all losses. Nice. Only MSU fans.

How so? Even though it's a loss - it was at a level that each of the programs had never experienced.

It was a loss. I'd have rather been at the Cincinnati win. Or the Arkansas win or the Egg Bowl in Oxford that sent us to ATL (another one I wish I'd have been at). Or even the second Oregon State win that sent us to the Finals.

Just being there for a loss (because we'd never been there) sounds like rationale for people who spent a bunch of money to see us lose. To each his own. We lost. I don't ever want to see us lose.

And not sure why we act like we were lucky to be in the presence of the Meadowlands, Atlanta or Omaha. We earned that ****. I don't want to just enjoy getting there.

But considering that's the highest we have been in all 3 sports - that's why people wish they were there. To experience a level MSU had never been at before.

Again, if you like losing, it's all good. If we go to Pasadena to play the BCS Ch'ip and lose, I'm pretty sure I'll have more fun at the bars or whatever else I do on that trip. We were at the same level at the game we won to get to the point in which we lost. So I'd prefer to see the win.

And honestly, when you add it all up, that's why I'll likely not go to any other postseason event outside Omaha (I love baseball) or Atlanta/New Orleans (close) for a post-season sporting event. Way too much money involved to do that, and it's going into some yahoo's pocket who works for 2 weeks out of the year in Los Angeles. I'd rather give my money to Starkville and MSU.

I would probably say the NCAA regional games at Rupp Arena in '96 that got us into the Final Four. I think the back to back wins over Connecticut (1 seed) and Cincinnati (2 seed) were probably the best 2 games in a row that we've ever played in basketball.

Understandable but I can easily see how people would want to go to a game even where we lost. It's not that they like losing and it's not like they are choosing the 2003 Tulane game in Sherrill's last season.

Wish that we had stayed to watch the end of the Snow Bowl. Highway Patrol was suggesting that if you were driving home, you need to get on the road now!...Of course, that was at half-time when we had already sat through the worst part of the snow. We left, since the HP encouraged us, and sure enough, had a wreck on the the ice coated highway, hit by an 18-wheeler who was trying to pass us, and knocked out a lot of windows in our SUV. Then - Drove for 2 hours, trying to find a hotel with vacancies! Wish I had stayed at Shreveport, and would have been happier with the wonderful win, and frostbit toes!

I can sort of go with you down this road, but I think about it the other way too. I went to ATL in 98. Most incredible football atmosphere I've been to as a State fan. A few came close, but that whole experience was incredible. Obviously the moment when Prentiss broke into the open field was as electric a moment as State football has ever had. We were what....10 minutes from the Sugar Bowl? Yes, Tee Martin and Peerless Price spoiled that for us, but I would not give up that experience for anything. Maybe that's a different question - which MSU loss do you not regret attending - but it's understandable why people who weren't able to go might regret not having been there if they've spent the last 15 years listening to people like me reminisce about it while not having another opportunity to go.

The ones I regret not attending are the Snow Bowl, the UConn Sweet 16 game, and the Final Four. I was at the Cinci game, but could not find a ticket to go to the Meadowlands. Of course that had to be the last year they played the Final Four in a non dome-type setting so tickets were scarce, and there was no stubhub to bail me out.

for games like CWS finals, final 4, and sec CG, i don't think regretting missing the games equates "liking losing". there's a lot of programs that have never won a big 3 national title and a lot of sec programs that haven't won a sec CG, so there's no shame in being happy you went to those kinda games even if we lost. doesn't mean you "like losing", just means you want to soak in msu playing for the highest stakes possible and experience the atmosphere.

i bet a lot of oregon fans would could regret missing the 2010 BCS CG over any other game in oregon history. i bet VaTech fans regret missing the 1999 BCS CG over any other game in VaTech history. i bet butler fans regret missing their 2 NCAA tourney CG appearances over any other butler game in history. most fanbases don't get to watch their programs play for titles year after year, so there's no shame in regretting missing seeing your program play for a title, even if your program loses.

I guess. Obviously I can only speak to my opinion. I couldn't make it out to Omaha this year, and while it sucked we lost, I didn't regret the decision not to go after it was over. At all. I looked at it as a blessing in disguise.

But I know plenty of people who went out and had a blast. So in that way I get it. And what DS and D@A said. I guess in the end, it just doesn't make my list of games I wish I'd been a part of.
