Elkin vs Wilkes Central

Elkin fell asleep against Ashe for a thumping. Not sure they are as good as billed. Central looks to be in solid form offensively. I give Central the nod.

Not much to say about this one. Ashe by a ton.

East Wilkes vs Starmount

East slipped late against West Wilkes and Starmount rebounded in a slugfest against Alleghany. Starmount seems to be struggling offensively thus far. I think this will be a close ballgame. Probably the best game in the conference this week.

West Wilkes vs Alleghany

West rolled the dice and left with a win last week. Alleghany seems to be struggling to put points on the board. This one will be close but will be tough sleding for both teams.

Mount Airy vs North Stokes

Mount Airy lost a tough one to what appears to he a solid Pisgah team. North Stokes deleted Hobbton who has been down for some time. North seems to be improving but won't have anything for the Granite Bears.

South Stokes vs Winston-Salem Prep

The Sauras are off to a 2-0 start playing sound defense. Prep seems to be scoring at will. Intriguing matchup in this one. I think sound well coached football leads the Sauras to victory.

East Surry vs Bishop

East is coming off a thrashing. They'll lay the hammer to the Villians who looked destined to find the cellar of the NWC

Admittedly, just like every year I know very little about the teams in the area this season. In a normal year, I hope to catch all of the area schools in Yadkin, Surry, and Wilkes at least once. Granted that I am able to make the trip home on the weekend from Lenoir County. There is a lot of good football this ways, but I prefer the foothills.

However, with COVID limiting spectators, I have relied heavily on word-of-mouth and newspaper clippings to make my own misguided assumptions this season. Without a normal off-season and many kids opting out, an abnormal season is expected. Nonetheless, taking about football again is fun and I am glad you have started this thread with the absence of our friend, Slasher Killer.

Elkin vs Wilkes Central:

Not sure what to make of Elkin or WC for that matter. @LetsGetIt7, I read in the paper and from one of your fans, that another QB could be starting this week. Is that accurate? If so, will that make the Eagles more prolific in their passing game? I’m gonna go with the Elks in this one as long as they can slow down #7.

North Wilkes vs Ashe:

Ashe is in the drivers seat. North Wilkes seems to have a respectable defense but struggles with the big play ability from their opponents. Ashe by a lot.

Starmount vs E Wilkes:

I was hoping we would see the Starmount of old this season. A good Starmount team makes this conference a lot of fun. I think this game is shaping up to be the most competitive one as stated above. The Rams continue to roll in a close one. They have a fantastic QB.

West Wilkes vs Alleghany:

West is my local favorite. I really hope this new coach can turn this program around. There is some talent in Miller’s Creek. Unfortunately, I don’t think they build on last weeks win. Alleghany is flying under the radar and appears to be a very scrappy team. I’ll take the Trojans in a 2 score affair.

Moving on to the NWC.

Mount Airy vs N Stokes:

I know very little of the Vikings. I have only been to that neck of the woods a couple of times. MA is MA. Well coached with Atkins at the helm, a solid QB, good upfront and solid skill players to spread the ball too. They played a tough Pisgah team close in a game where it appears they had opportunity to win. MA takes care of business this week in a big way.

South Stokes vs Winston Salem Prep:

I think this game is shaping up to be a pretty competitive one as well. A living legend on the sideline for the Sauras will have them prepared for the atheticism and speed of Prep. Prep seems to be on the up-and-up as a program. I’ll take S Stokes jn a very close one.

E Surry vs Bishop

E Surry reminds everyone who they are this week. Can’t put too much emphasis on losing to Reidsville, even in a blowout. Cards in a rout.

It is hard to make assessments this year. Seems to be some surprises early on and plenty of question marks. Good assessments. Could be an interesting week around the area.

Elkin vs WC,
Illuminati this would be the first I have heard of McGill playing QB this week. If he does I think he may be a little better of a Qb with the graham kid being a better athlete back there, Graham has looked solid the last 2 weeks though. If they make the change Graham will help on the outside. Honestly my gut is telling me Elkin is riding off of last years coat tails, I think WC rolls in this one.

Ashe Vs NW
Ashe will roll in this one, but could prove closer than what we think if NW can figure out how to get it in the end zone. We’re stopped in the red one 3 times last week and 4 the week before.

Starmount VS EW
I’ll take EW here, Starmount is struggling to score, and I think the young guys at EW rebound this week after the shocker to West.

WW bs Alleghany
I would also love to see WW get back to a level of respectability, it’s a close one up the mountain but Alleghany should take this one, they will be to physical for WW to handle

MA will roll by whatever they want, think MA is about 1 year away from something special.

To be honest I don’t know if we will ever see the Starmount of old the way things are. Kids are different now then back in the BW and Hutchens’ days. Our record-setting QB graduated last year so we have a new one this year.

Didn't figure they did. Well, was wrong about that one. Prep might have something to say about the conference title. Seems they are scoring at will. I think they'll struggle stopping Mt. Airy or East Surry, but they'll be able to score tit for tat with both potentially.
