Sir, you have put more thoughtfulness on this subject than most. Only issue will be the continued building of more and larger schools. This alone will bring us right back to where we are now within a few years. As those schools push other schools down a classification. Not picking or kicking your idea. Check I'd support this 100%!

You are right...realignment would need to happen every 4 years at least.
It's not that hard to put together. I enjoy the work. Hopefully whoever ends up being in charge of realignment can put together a team of people who are unbiased and passionate about doing what's equitable for all schools.
Would like to see an update on things from you, and would also like to see different scenarios of what conferences could look like from other folks as well.
Problem with updating it none of us know what next year's ADMs look like. And 2nd not sure how state is gonna deal with charters and parochial schools
There has been discussions about doing away with conferences all together, and just go with districts or regions.
That is what I've thought would be the common sense thing to do for years now. Abandon conferences entirely.
NC has 100 counties. 4 regions makes sense to me. 25 counties per region. Each region can be broken down into districts ((conferences) to me those two words are interchangeable).
Again, it can be done...but what works best for NC? Problem is...the mountain region (far west region) will only have 1 8a school...so how do you navigate that?

Sometimes, you've got do double-check and triple-check with what numbers you have. Some errors are fairly obvious that even Stevie Wonder can spot them. Other errors are more subtle and hidden. It will be interestting to see enrollemnt numbers come October. Also, how will the NCHSAA address the charters, parochials, and other non-zoned schools? This is something we can only speculate for now.
There is not really a difference except what we call it to some degree. The NCHSAA is divided into eight regions which are more administrative which is great for a meeting but not for competition or regular season scheduling. For years the playoffs were played through a district, sectional, regional concept. I did not like the preset playoff bracket as you would often have an absolutely loaded bracket while the other would be weak. Remember the pod system? That was a take off of the old playoffs to some degree but they were not preset before the season started, ie conference champion versus a specific conference champion or runnerup (there were a few that made the playoffs).

Meck and Wake County have over 12% of the football playing schools in the NCHSAA. Guilford and Forsyth close to the same. The current NCHSAA regions are more geographical and would need to be based more on total number of schools but that will result in the far west having a huge region or whatever you want to call it.

The NCHSAA noted that school sizes within classifications will not be as broad with a maximum of 64 schools in each class as compared to the four classifications today.
Schools were also asked if they would prefer realigning every two years instead of every four years.

Honestly I think the 2nd option is the most fair.
Obviously most fans will view it from the perspective of their own team. For Thomasville, I find it interesting that at 592, in the first option we would be one of the smallest in 3A. In the second the largest in 2A. And the third, in the middle of 3A.

"Small 32" seems like it would work best if the 11 man football teams can opt up into 2A, or otherwise include them in 2A conferences for football. The big problem with small 32 is they will be much more spread out than the Big 32, so we're putting the greatest travel burden on the smallest schools.
I'm wondering why they wouldn't do a mixture of the smallest 32, biggest 32, then divide the rest in between evenly. The small schools and big schools are where the most discrepancies are.

If you had a "Big 32" (8A) and a "Small 32" (1A), then the other six classes would have almost 64 teams each.

Here's another idea. How about a "Big 64" (8A) and/or a "Little 64" (1A)? If you did one or the other (Big or Little), just divide the other classes by seven (2A-8A or 1A-7A). If you do both (Big + Little), just divide up the remaining number of schools by six (2A-7A).
YOu would have 64 teams each in 1A and 8A, then have 52 teams each in 2A through 7A.
Still, no matter how you slice the "pie", you're still going to have tons of split conferences.

That would create a huge gap between smallest and biggest school in those classifications. Which defeats purpose of going to 8 classifications

I got reliable word that we'll be getting split conferences, "about 100% chance".

Split conferences are a must, unless you are ok with 3 hour drive times or two team conferences. I agree that the big question is how many classes they will allow in a conference. First Flight over on the coast will possibly be the only 4A school in it's conference. That will probably have to be a 2A/3A/4A conference.
Based on how the adm numbers play out I could see a possibility of the cvac being all one class
I'm seeing that Maiden will be the only 4A in catawba county.
Just for discussion purposes because numbers will be different next year. Maiden 875, Bunker Hill 880, bandy's 906, Newton 907, Fred t Foard 934. With just a minimal growth would put all in 5a with option 3. With option 2 all in 4a. Now option 1 would split it up, but with all the housing developments being built who knows what the numbers will be next year in Catawba county besides Foard which either holds steady or drops a little if I guess.
Honestly I feel like option 2 is set up to win the vote. U would have to logically figure it's automatically got a 57 vote lead because the 57 teams in 7a would be stupid to not vote that option because any other option gives a 1800 student spread in that classification.
Still interesting to see if they do anything special with charter schools too.

Very busy...but it's all a wash until we get some more concrete guidelines.
Bunker Hill is tricky...they have the same ADM as Anson I believe...HSOT puts Anson in 4A and BH in 5A...idk why but it's what they have. Personally I believe they should put them both either up or down and not split teams with same ADM.
I still believe we could see Catawba County redraw lines at some point the growth in Sherrill Ford area is so overwhelming that it's gonna kill bandy's and over run it. That building is nothing. It's either redraw or build a new big school out towards Sherrill Ford. Maiden could handle more from across hwy 16
It's possible Bandys could upgrade their current structure to accommodate more students, like East Lincoln, since they have plenty of room to do it. If that happens, you and I will be calling the Trojans our father.
