I'll take the American Dream ALL day long!! I know it's just wrestling and a show but his "Hard Times" interview is a classic to me. If you have never heard this dude jive it's definitely worth a listen.

Years ago when I worked for the Coca-Cola company Dusty Rhodes was hired as a spokesman for the Mello Yello brand. The company sent us some video commercials to share with media outlets to use and motivational videos for our employees. Mistakenly we got a couple mixed up and offended some people when the advertisement, audio only, went out something like this, "when your neighbor comes over with his sorry citrus pop, run him off and when you see his mama walking down the street, kick her in the butt". Man, did we have some explainin' to do.

Glad to say that I survived the 1st “Great American Bash” at Charlotte Memorial stadium! It might be…the grandest Sh?t Show….I’ve ever attended. The movie….Gangs of New York….come to mind! It was absolute mayhem!

Me wearing a…Nikita Koloff shirt….was a horrible idea!😂😂😂😂

What can I say? Go! Boom Devils!

In the early eighties I had a route down town Charlotte. I serviced the old colosium and steak houses on Albemarle rd. I used to see Ric,Nakita Koloff,Dusty at steak house and stores there. Talked to them quite often. Great guys. Just one time Steamboat was there. Ric owned the weight room on Albemarle Rd.

Yes, my friend, I made the mistake of asking a first time date if she would like to pick a restaurant and that's the one she chose. Up until then the finest restaurant I'd been to was the Western Steer. I didn't know of any finer. I did well on making the reservation but once there she ask me to order for us. I couldn't decipher the menu and she had to order for us. I'll never forget her saying bring him beef stroganoff with wild mushrooms and I (meaning her) will have veal cordon bleu with a side of spaghetti. Very embarrassing, it really bothered her because I didn't understand fine foods. I should have expected it, her being from Lake Norman, which is in Eeeeeast Lincoln.
Oh, by the way, the food was really good. I was a little dubious of the wild mushrooms but they were good.

Gotta hear from the Nature Boy.

Nakita Koloff lived somewhere over by Chocowinity. When I was a contractor with Weeks Construction when I worked over that way there was a restaurant I ate at and he was a frequent customer there. We sat together and talked about how rough wrestling was on the body. He suffered a lot before he died. He was a good man.

I'm sorry it was not Nakita it was Ivan Koloff. They called him the Russian Bear. But he told me he was not Russian. He was from Canada.

I'd almost bet that young lady was hoping those "wild mushrooms" would act as an aphrodisiac.

Eastcoastman, I had dinner at Top of the Towers, 30th floor of the Jefferson Building, back in the early 70's Their specialty was prime rib, I didn't know what that was either.

Dang, I was at that show too. I remember there were fights all throughout the stadium. That was more entertaining than what was going on in the ring.

Eastcoastman, after all was said and done I'd just as soon went to Green's lunch on 4th St and ate hotdogs or over to Copal's Grill on Wilkinson Blvd and had the stew beef sandwich. I went to school down there and on my days off from work here in Lincolnton I would drive uptown after class and look up at the buildings.

There was an old place about 2 or 3 blocks from downtown. An old black lady ran it,home cooked meals, can't remember the name. It was good. Also up in First Union bldg. It was good. I did that job 2 years then went work with Carolina Power Light in Raleigh NC. I was elated that happened. Loved it.
