NBA - No More National Anthem...

There is a much larger war going on about the inherent meaning of America. Multinational and global interests, led and financed by a communist country, have fed into our culture that America and its ideals are bad and irredeemable. All vessels and symbols of that must be targeted, erased, or at least re-written and reinterpreted. It’s not hard to understand the intent behind that. Research critical race theory being taught in our universities, businesses, and government. Come back to me if you don’t find that alarming.

This fight isn’t just about the anthem.

Rubbish. Red scare 3.0

I'm not saying abolish the national anthem (though I do say abolish the creepy pledge of allegiance which is more like something you'd expect in a country like the USSR or North Korea than in a "land of the free.") It makes sense that you'd play it at, for instance, national team games against other countries' teams. Or at civic events and ceremonies. Other countries - like, almost all of them - manage to have a shared identity without the obsession with performative patriotism and display of iconography at events unrelated to anything national or civic that we do. American patriotism just displays a deep insecurity from my perspective, a need to constantly remind ourselves that "we're number 1, we're great!" and to ignore or deny deep problems in our society and our history in favor of a narrative of us as god's anointed people on an inevitable and foreordained march to greatness.
"god's" anointed people? Shouldn't God be capitalized, even if you are a non-believer? I mean, I don't believe that there are actual beings such as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or Bigfoot, but I don't make reference to "santa claus", the "easter bunny", or "bigfoot". Are you just trying to prove some kind of point with this?

You can’t prove that and you know it. Just more ******** radical right propaganda.
Imagine being that triggered over a song and cloth. These people allegedly have so much respect for both, but when you ask them the historical information about either, they never know it without having to Google it.

I was at a family gathering pre-covid and some of my family members were shitting all over Kaepernick and others who kneeled and supported it. They went on for 10 minutes or so and I let them start feeling real good about themselves. Then, in front of everyone, I started asking them about how and when the fLag was first created and who made it. Asked when it was officially adopted, how many variations there were and when the current version was adopted. Not a damn person knew. Did the same with with the Star Spangled Banner, same result. Then I reiterated that the person they were claiming to be unpatriotic and unAmerican sure knew more about their nations history and patroitic symbols than they did, and their rage sure seemed over-the- top for people who knew so little about something they put their respect and passion blindly behind. Never again have they brought up the topic around me.

So you disagree that America and its ideals are not the pinnacle of western civilization? That we are not the greatest nation in history?

Please note that I did not say perfect. We are human. We have flaws. We made mistakes. But do you think that overall America has not been a force for good and progress?

I can’t prove it? Really? When did the crap start? Have you been paying attention, or does your lack of an attention span get in the way? And radical propaganda? Please! The left wrote the damned book on radical propaganda.
How many cops did you assault on January 6 because the Orange Man told you there was voter fraud despite losing 70+ court cases over the issue because they were all lies?

Imagine being this triggered over other people being triggered. Truly sad and pathetic.

I do disagree with that. I think it is creepy and displays a deep insecurity in our national psyche that we are so obsessed with being THE GREATEST and insisting that all Americans must agree that we are THE GREATEST.

Not at all, especially considering that I am not religious myself. #amusedatyoursilliness would be more accurate.

I meant no "point" by it. You're right that in that context it would be grammatically correct to capitalize the word God as it was clearly referring to a specific entity and not to a generic deity. I didn't stop to think about it.

How many businesses did you burn down all of last year? How many flat screens did you steal? How many vehicles did you burn up? How many people did you attack? Works both ways, doesn’t it?
And by the way, I was a U.S. Special Agent for almost 30 years and have more respect for LEOs than you EVER will.

Rubbish. Red scare 3.0

Did we allow the Soviet Union to own and control major interests in Hollywood, American Corporations, and our educational system?

Did we allow Soviet Companies to do business here in America?

Did we allow American companies to do business in the Soviet Union with the catch that the CCCP control the corporations including intellectual property transfer?

Did we allow the Soviets to purchase and control major media entities in America?

The answer to those questions was no but for some reason yes when substituted for Communist China.

Sports are entertainment. Other forms of entertainment I like are movies and concerts. I don't recall the anthem ever being played at any concerts or movies that I've been to.

Winner for the dumbest analogy ever.

Sounds like you’re a member of a family of dumbasses who slept through history class.

I bet you felt so good about yourself too. Typical. Somebody disagrees with you and you try to make them feel small.

In the end, it’s a smart move.
on one side, players and coaches can’t kneel before the game and piss off anybody.
on the other side, nobody really cares about it anyways. This just removes all possibilities of escalation.

No, it’s a cop out. It’s just another example of giving in to the whining left that is offended by every damned thing.

I think that's a dumb and irrelevant question without any kind of objective answer.

Fair enough.

I think it’s dumb to state that the ONLY country to enshrine freedom of speech, freedom to worship, and the right to bear arms in its founding document isn’t great.

I think it’s dumb to claim that the country that over 1 BILLION people worldwide would move to if allowed (per Gallop) isn’t great.

I think it’s dumb to claim that a country that sacrificed hundreds of thousands of its lives to end slavery, defeat Nazism, and fight communism isn’t great.

It’s dumb to say that the country that built the skyscrapers, first in flight, largest and wealthiest middle class, and countless other technological innovations isn’t great.

But you’re more into short and nonsubstantive replies so I can see why you would think that.

Other countries have MANY traditions that I guarantee you or I don’t know about that serve to bind them. Many of them are very local because their cultures are much older. The anthem and pro sports just happen to be one of ours, and not that old.

We are great. Our ideals are worth celebrating. We’re damn lucky. Being proud of that and occasionally being reminded of it doesn’t mean we’re perfect or that we don’t have problems to fix.

Your missing the bigger picture in this fight. To your defense, so are many on the pro-anthem side as well. It’s easy to get caught up in an argument over a song. The forces behind this fight aren’t targeting the anthem itself.

The question is why is the anthem controversial all of a sudden? 10-15 years ago, that would have been unfathomable even for someone on the left such as yourself. In 2005 did you go around asking everyone why the anthem was played before sporting events? I’d guess not. Hell, you might’ve even supported playing it back then.

Back in 2005 I didn’t ask everyone why it was being played. I don’t today either.

But it’s never made sense to me why we play it before sporting events when we don’t play it before any other social events.

Well actually it makes sense in the NFL since they are getting paid to do it, or at least were getting paid for it.
