And they are well coached.
Didn't realize that Mitch is the son of a former NBA Champ, and played at Stanford for 4 years.

Spurs absolutely stepped in S. They have legitimately 3 first pick of the draft caliber players as their 3 man core. They need to maximize their picks this year - that 20th pick will be big for them. They could use a backup big in the early second.

I didn’t know who his dad was until recently.

His dad was a hell of a player. I never met him but he was a good friend and mentor to a former NBA player friend of mine.

Wow, didn't know that either. That's from the way, way, wayback machine. That Seattle 79 title team was one of those brief flares, with lucky timing, but also memorable if you were just starting to watch basketball. Jack Sikma, Gus Williams, Fred Brown, Lonnie Shelton, and the 2 Johnsons, Dennis and John.

The Spurs and OKC (and really, the Celtics too) have very similar ideas about where basketball is headed. A whole lot of athletic wing types who can shoot well enough and cover the floor like crazy on defense. No real power forward, very mobile big guys, and no real reliance on a main point guard (I know the Spurs have De'Aaron Fox, but he's always been an attacking, scoring point guard).

The Spurs won because Wembanyama ate Chet Holmgren alive, and because OKC didn't have that second scorer beside SGA. And the Spurs might have the future edge because they're simply taller all over the floor. But I'd be surprised if we don't see a repeat of this series in next year's Western Conference final.

Great post.

SA is very much 4 guards and one big. I do think they could use more size at the 4 to help down low defensively, in certain rotations, especially when Kornet is in. If a kid like Morez Johnson fell to them, would be yet another golden pick for them as he is so versatile for his size and has a shot that looks like it has major upside. They could potentially grab a very high value pick at 20 if they can find any of Quintnance, Johnson, Steinbach, Carr land with them.
