I would love to hear what the NCHSAA has to say about this amount of money. They are notoriously tight lipped about all kinds of things.

They take money from endowment games.... ok, fine... but how about a little help when the pandemic cuts deeply into everyone's athletic budget. Schools in areas of financial distress are struggling to field teams and cover expenses. If the NCHSAA isn't helping with that, then what is that money for?

Instead, they cut next year's football season down to 10 games... but they still expect that 10th game to be an endowment game. Hmmm... There is a reason they are the "richest" High School Sports Association in the country.

Republican from Iredell County- Let me guess, maybe has some ties to the Lake Norman Football team???? Unreal

B & G, I hope that is not the reason but the nchsaa is the ncaa's little brother. I think they need oversight from an independent body not our legislatures and there are schools that can barely afford decent equipment and with 41 mil in the bank they need to do more. It's another example of making money of athletes. I love hs sports because it's a great experience but an organization like the nchsaa doesn't need to sit on 41 mil.

There may need to be accountability on the $$ side but just think its laughable that 4 days after LKN gets a tough decision on the playoffs we suddenly have a state senator from Iredell County looking into the NCHSAA.

That is a lil suspicious but this organization is backward in so many ways and has been way before Que. I thought Davis Whitfield was trying to bring them into the current times but lately it seems like they have gone backwards. The association could be doing so much more for their members especially the ones in poor districts.

It was actually the state house member that reps Anson County that started the investigation. He did not like that Anson missed the playoffs after the fight in the Richmond game last season. Even said so.

So that's what it comes down to now. We don't like a decision about our local HS football team so we will investigate you.

I'm so disgusted with politicians.

It has to be that Pizza shop next to NCHSAA headquarters that is running a child trafficking ring and using endowment game money to feed the pipeline which kidnapped the girlfriend of one of the LKN players making him play badly against Vance thus contributing to the loss. LOL. #QNCHSAANON

Isn‘t the NCHSAA the independent body?

It is a form of grandstanding to some and righting a wrong to others. At least he was not a member when the State Legislature changed reworked a conference after a realignment...without telling the NCHSAA or giving them a chance to present. Ended up causing some negatives with the ripple effect but the two that pushed did not care because they looked like heroes to their constituents.

I don't like the rules that remove teams from the playoffs. I think that should be looked at much closer. I have voiced this displeasure to Que and Davis among others over the years. Davis told me that fighting which includes leaving the bench was an item that schools felt very strongly should be kept in place. Not sure if schools means the superintendents and principals but I would think more of them than coaches and ADs.

The idea for the endowment has been that it will be needed eventually to pay for the insurances and coverages plus money to aide schools to keep high school sports alive. I think one issue is that the NCHSAA has been so set on the goal of building the endowment to such a great number that they often did not write more or bigger checks when they were needed.

I am fine with the endowment game. I always said play ten or do an 11th and send the money to HQ. I get schools would prefer to do 11 and keep it all.

You always have well thought out points of view. What’s the alternative?

I think the coaches should be heavily involved in determining the penalties. If a few players are removed for fighting the team is done. I would prefer to see those players removed from the playoff game in addition to their other forfeited game. Lose one home playoff game, then two, and so on. Also, head coach misses a half then a full game as the suspensions escalate.

I am sure there are a lot more specific points that need to be met but that is a basic concept.

That makes sense. As long as the penalties are consistent and in keeping with the offense, I would agree. But I do think they need to be serious enough to hopefully be a deterrent.

NCHSAA and its $41M isthe richest Athletic Association in the country by double!
That is absurd. That money is generated on the backs of athletes primarily football and basketball and they should be required by membership to return all of it yearly except for operating costs, contingency and scholarships (if they even do that). Those funds could be given to each school system and let them appropriate to the schools athletic departments. If you are a charter or parochial school there will be an appropriation based on your request. I doubt the parochial schools have the needs of public schools.

Ridiculous. One person upset about a fight that lead to a suspension and an another the position of their schools in the realignment and that quickly we get an investigation. News Observer quoted one of the legislators as threatening an investigation if the suspension was upheld and sure enough they are investigating without clearly communicating what the reason and target was. If you read the reports it becomes clear: issue 1- realignment; issue 2 participation of charter and private schools particularly at the 1A level as well as Charlotte Catholic and Cardinal Gibbons. The cover was money to get them on the board. Ultimately they want charter and private schools out and oversight of realignment.

I could care less about the schools but I think it's a shame that schools can't afford equipment and they are sitting on 40 mil in cash.

I totally understand the concept and the goal of having the endowment. I think there will come a day when having that fund will be a savior of high school sports and it will be the poorest schools that will need it most and benefit from it.

With that said, I do think they need to look more at what schools need assistance instead of a more blanket policy.

Everyone will have their views on how things should be but I doubt anyone wants the NC Legislature making the decisions on who is on the board or how to set classifications and conferences.
