I would make a general statement to the class about appropriate attire without pointing fingers at the intended target. Maybe that would be enough for her to get the hint.

In addition, I would make sure that I was never alone with this girl, or any girl for that matter in order to avoid any he said/she said situations.

PS As a C/O in a jail, I sometimes have to deal with female inmates and this is exactly how I handle them. Female inmates love trying to jam C/Os up. They will frequently flash us as we make our rounds, walk around naked in their cell when they know we're walking around or even flash us their clams while they're out at yard in the summer.
I cannot see myself making a statement to the entire class about what they wear and I am never alone with a student, ever.

You made two points in your post. One good...one poor.

Your first suggestion is stupid. It basically incriminates the teacher (@OUIrPSU) because the other students already know how she dresses and they will then know that he notices. Duh

Never be alone with or near that girl. She is setting someone up for something.

Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner had it correct when he wrote this song....

Let me reiterate that she is not dressing like this for my benefit. At least I don’t believe so. Class has only met for 3 weeks, but I believe it’s just how she dresses.

I think you should reconfigure the seating into a circle and teach the class from the center of the room. Maybe your pupils would better understand your lectures if they were the center of attention. And the coed would find a much larger audience for her desires in the classroom. I'm sure you could find someone in class to help you out.
That wouldn’t work in the classroom I’m in. And, like I said in a previous comment, I don’t get the feeling that she dresses like that for anyone’s benefit but her own. She just doesn’t seem like the kind of person who is thirsty for attention, although she might not mind it.

This girl is either so lacking in self-awareness or has voluntarily disregarded conventional wisdom to seek attention - probably the latter. Either way, any attempt to address this with her directly or through the university will be received horribly. I'd suck it up and deal with it for the semester. Review the handbook or reach out to the school after the semester is over to inquire about how a teacher should deal with violations of the dress code, and put the entire class on notice during the first class of next semester.
I don’t know if we even have a dress code. I’ll have to check. And it’s not that she’s dressing obscenely. I’d call it more provocative, and as a professional educator, I’ll just have to deal with it.

I am 100% confident that she is not dressing like that for any reason other than that’s how she dresses. In fact, there’s really nothing wrong with it. I’m really only concerned about what might happen if I “accidentally” look at the wrong time, which I believe I have the ability to not do.
No, no! You’re not playing the gaaaame!

She goes to these lengths to entice you and your only response is "Gee I better not get caught peeking at her”.

It's the timeless art of seduction! You got to join in the dance! She wears enticing clothes, you wear them too, right back!

I wouldn't point out what anybody is or isn't wearing. I would just reiterate the student dress code and refer the students to the policy. You could even state that you're reiterating this at the behest of the administration to deflect direct responsibility.

To each their own. I guess being in Corrections has taught me to tackle problems head on, sometimes literally.

Generally universities don’t have formal student dress codes. I just googled Penn State, Georgetown, Duke, nothing.

Come on everyone --
This is not High School, or coat and tie, skirt required at the knees Administrative Policy - you dress as you please.
Evidently, she is a fully developed, well-endowed nice/good looking/beautiful woman. Who wouldn't want to enjoy all the benefits of an emotional situation/tryst? But - but -but she is young and this is a classroom, and looking without leering is hard.

Only one thing to do - Deal With It. She will not be yours - even for a moment - Deal With It !!

So many news stories about female teachers sleeping with male high school students. Was that always a thing? You never heard about this kind of thing when I went to hs in the 90s, but maybe it’s just easier to prove nowadays with cellphones?

When you were in school the teachers were 70 yrs old. Now they have hot 20 something cheerleader chicks teaching school. You probably didnt have any game skills. These days 15 year olds are hitting on teachers through social media.

I only knew of 1 female teacher that got involved with a student and it wasn't at my school (early 90s).

However, at the jail that I work at 99% of all the inappropriate sexual relationships between staff and inmates involve female staff members.

Dealing with it is exactly my strategy. And just for the record - I NEVER said, let alone implied, anything about wanting her to be mine.

Ain't nobody out there who wants to see me wearing "enticing" clothes. That includes my wife!

I probably should've put "issue" in quotes in the title since it's not an issue unless I make it one. Which I won't. But thanks for the advice.

A couple of questions out of pure curiosity.

1. How would you rate this girls' non-mammary physical attractiveness on a scale of 1 (fugly) to 10 (Bo Derek)?

2. Have any male students in your classroom tried hitting on her?

If not, there's something wrong with her. It's college....males hit on anything attractive with a pulse.

Guys were hitting on her… that’s what started this mess. When she told a dude, “they’re real and they’re spectacular!”… things took a turn!!!

I'd say stare away. She probably likes it.

Yep, apparently so. I know damn well if I was standing up there, she would be grossed out and probably make sure to bring 2 or 3 blankets to class. Think of the offering this guy gets. Must be nice.

  1. It’s difficult to pick a number, but I’d say a 7, maybe an 8.
  2. Not that I’m aware of.

In case anyone was wondering, class was held online yesterday due to the recent winter weather (not my decision). We’ll meet again in person tomorrow, and I’ll post an update here if there’s anything more to report.

Yeah, you read that correctly. In 30 years of teaching undergraduates, I’ve seen a lot of, ahem, cleavage. I usually ignore it - or pull a Jerry Seinfeld - but I’m having a difficult time this semester with one particular student who sits right in front of me when I’m talking to the class and apparently has no qualms displaying her physical attributes.

Today, as I was handing out an assignment, I happened to look at her and noticed not just her cleavage, but also that her nipples were protruding through her top. As soon as I saw that, I immediately looked away since I’m like 40 years older than them and not a perv.

Confounding my dilemma is the fact that she’s very attractive (you can throw a flag, but it ain’t gonna’ happen) and an outstanding student who asks a lot of really good questions, so I HAVE to look at her.

After class, as I was walking back to my office, I thought…why not ask the AKB for guidance and advice on how to deal with this “problem” since, let’s face it, what else is there to discuss right now?

So, anyway, what do all ya’ll got for me?
Do you ever need a substitute teacher?
