I'll be landing at 9:00 pm at lovely Medgar-Evers Airport on Friday night and need to buy some liquor before 10 PM (I'm assuming there are no sales after 10 PM, correct?)

Where on Lakeland/25 going towards Starkville from Medgar-Evers is a good place to stop and grab some liquor for the tailgate on Saturday morning?

You are probably going to have to kick down into Hinds County to get that liquor. The nearest one to the airport that I'm aware of is the huge store just across the river on Lakeland/25...

There's nowhere on the way to Starkville from airport but do this:

From the airport go to Lakeland Dr/ Highway 25 via Airport Rd. When you get to Lakeland (Mugshots will be on your right) turn left or West. Once you cross over the Pearl River bridge probably 2 miles or so), start looking on your left and go to The Quarter Liquor Store or go another block to the intersection of Ridgewood and Lakeland and go left to Discount Liquor. Those will be the closest to the airport

Thanks engie and the peeper. My google searches showed that store just across the river, but was hoping to find one on the way to Starkville, instead of heading back towards downtown.

I'm very surprised there isn't a liquor store out in all that suburban shopping complex, though. Is there some laws preventing liquor stores from being built out there?

What engie and peeper said. Shouldn't be more than about 10 minutes extra driving time. And that really is about your only option.

That's Rankin County for you...Just recently became legal a for them to serve liquor in their dining establishments...

A whole bunch of MS has backwoods liquor laws still. Ever try to buy BEER between Starkville and Oxford? Make it past Mathiston and you will be one pissed off person pulling into Lafayette County. Nevermind the number of times I've traveled those roads with enough alcohol to be in a world of trouble by the letter of the law in those counties.

Yes. Only liquor by the glass in Rankin County. And that just recently.

Are you trying to find something in particular, or just some Jim Beam?

I realize it's a bit backwoods out there, but there are package stores, and then there are stores that have some good stuff.
I don't think you'll find any Pappy Van Winkle out in Rankin County...

You must've missed the part about "on Lakeland/25 going towards Starkville from Medgar-Evers"...

But oh well. I appreciate your effort.

There's a couple of things I'm looking for...

One, my wife wants mimosas for the 8 am tailgate.... so I'm trying to find a couple of bottles of champagne. The cheap kind will be just fine.

Two, I'd like to get a few airplane bottles of whiskey to take into the game. Jim would be just fine for that.

That's about all I really need. I'd rather get this done Friday night, rather than have to fight the crowds Saturday morning Starkville making a run to a liqour store (that I'm not even sure would be open then).

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Do you realize that it's illegal to sell packaged liquor in Rankin County??
There are no package stores, none... It's the law..

Talk about a backwoods county... You can buy it by the glass in a restaurant, but only in Flowood.

Drive the 2 miles into Hinds county, go to the liquor store at the corner of Ridgewood and Lakeland, turn around, drive to Starkville.

Just ask...

if you want someone to pick up some boos for you and pay them back. I'm going to the liquor store in Starkville Friday night anyway. I'll pick you up what you need and you can grab it at my conviently located tailgate on Stone Blvd Saturday early am. Of course there will be a small charge (larger than normal since you didn't just ask).

And what's even more ironic, is the boner you get from being a complete douchebag to strangers on the internet for no reason at all.

Sorry I don't live in Jackson, nor did I grow up there. My bad for trying to plan my trip using the help of this message board. From what I've read, I've got about 20 minutes from the time I pick up my car at the airport to get the liquor. I need to make sure I don't screw up in those 20 minutes.

Simply put, there is nothing in Rankin County. It's been dry as long as I can remember. I know there are a few special exceptions there (and no liquor stores still), but for the most part, everyone there drives to Jackson (or Ridgeland) to get their booze. Going into Jackson will add 15 minutes of driving to your time but get the job done for you.
