No ties would be nice but I'd accept alums who've not worked at MSU for several years (e.g., Stricklin spent 15 years or so away from MSU gaining experience before returning).

I agree with this. College athletics is a business and there are good reasons against doing business with family.
Next AD needs to be 1/3 Politician, 1/3 Preacher, and 1/3 used car salesman. Someone who knows how to bring in the moolah.
I'm not concerned with ties so much, but there's nobody in the building to hire. Go get the most proven guy and get every damn body on the same page. It's been a long time since that happened.
