Yes, I agree. Kraft cannot let him talk to the AD without a signed agreement. Hoping tomorrow the news is Campbell to Penn State.
Doesn’t the BoT need to give 24 hours notice of a meeting where they’d approve the hire? (Sorry if they announced a meeting and I missed it).

Kraft did not get a signature before Campbell meets with the president of Iowa State….didnt Kraft go through this already and he didn’t learn anything. I think we know how this will play out.
How should he get it? Forgery or at gunpoint?

From what I can tell, and I believe I posted this several weeks ago, Campbell makes $5 million per year and his buyout is $2 million. That seems very, very reasonable for a program like Penn State to be able to navigate. Why wasn’t he near the top of Kraft’s list sooner?
FWIW - SI reported that he was.

Well, maybe Campbell initially didn’t seem interested and PSU came back with a better deal? He has, supposedly, turned down offers in the past and elected to stay in Ames. He seems like a competitive guy and he may have reached his ceiling at Iowa State with their resources. I hope this gets done ASAP.

edit: Here’s the article you were referring to. 👍🏻

Franklin is an outstanding recruiter and people on here said he was just okay….maybe that’s because it’s not as easy as many think to recruit to Penn State. So if our next coach is not an outstanding recruiter, we won’t get higher than the 30’s. If he is an outstanding recruiter, we’ll get around 15, but there aren’t any outstanding recruiters left. And Terry Smith isn’t going to keep us in the top 15.
Franklin had huge holes on the lines, linebacker, and a chasm at WR. So just OK.

Will take our chances. Penn State is still a special place to many (while not for everyone)

Perhaps you are not addressing me, per se, but I am one of the people who constantly talked about how good of a recruiter CJF is. That was his biggest aptitude. However, I fully disagree that Penn State cannot be better than the 30s without James Franklin. That is way too pessimistic, in my view. Paterno, when he wasn’t even really recruiting anymore, still averaged better classes than that. For every class he had in the 30’s, he had a class in the top 10. He had plenty in the teens.
Paterno on a zoom call was a better recruiter than most!

And the offers may have come at a different time when he felt he could accomplish more at Iowa State, but as time has gone by he realizes he’s capped out there.

Oh come on. They won 2 games this year. You think the borderline 3/4* recruits carry that team to the playoffs in year 1?

What's ironic is that Franklin took PSU's class to Tech. Which wouldve been our worst class since 2020 is their best class ever. Just wait until their first meaningful game and Big Game James has a dogshit conservative gameplan and fakes a FG on the 3 yard line on the first drive of the game.
Don’t discount going for it on 4th and 4 from you’re own 32.

Just not to coaches apparently. And if coaches don’t want to come here neither will players.

If so, it better be to tell him he is leaving. Iowa State can't match our offer. I hope he has already indicated to Kraft that he is coming.
This is what got Krafty in trouble in the first place. Sitake gave him a handshake, wink, thumbs up, etc, but not a signature, and Krafty ran with it publicly and word got out to the cookie guy. This better be signed at the moment and MC is simply giving his notice tomorrow .

Because Kraft has a double digit IQ.

Amazing he’s made millions and won a lot of games for not knowing how to coach. It’s actually people sitting at home posting on a message board that don’t know how to coach.
Same could be said about Campbell. Amazing he’s made millions and won a lot of games not knowing how to recruit. And he did it in Ames Effin’ Iowa. Must be lucky.

So I'm not so sure that really most of those "leaks" were real. Heck, they may have been planted by the coach's agents just to get contract extensions/raises.

That being said, at this point having leaks is real bad given the desperation. You really don't want anything to get out unless it's 100% done. I'm nervous about us knowing they are talking to Campbell - hope the offer is really so much that ISU has no prayer to come close.
SI reported that the ISU athletic budget is nearly $100 less than PSU.

The article also said he doesn’t interview during the season. Not throwing an excuse to Kraft, but could be they reached out to him and he told them to wait? I really don’t care at this point if he’s going to be our next coach.

If I was Campbell, I would say f you Kraft. Should have hired me when I at least could have got more than 2 players in the incoming class.
You’re think about it wrong. If I were Campbell, I’d be saying, “Maybe, but it’s going to cost you”.
So was I. It is obvious he did not sign anyone when he was still trying to sign Sitake..
Wait, what? You’re signing two coaches at a time?

I don’t understand the concerns over Campbells ability to recruit. He’s been having to sell ISU, a middle of the pack school in Ames friggin’ Iowa. Just think of what he can do with PSU’s name-recognition, the BigTen and $$. I’d certainly have more faith in his ability to recruit in our area than Sitake would have.
I agree, but Campbell’s recruiting classes have averaged in the 50’s, so that’s all we have to go on.

Amazing we’ve been able to field a team at all the last several years! If it wasn’t for Franklin, PennState probably wouldn’t have had a team for the last decade!

I’ve heard both ways in the last 30 minutes. Will know for sure tomorrow.
Well, if he's had any recent conversations with Franklin or any of his Lackies we're in trouble again. With Terry getting opportunities to interview for a HC job Krafty better not screw the pooch on this one. Supposedly Krafty and his team are in Iowa tonight and Terry could leave at any time if he gets a great offer.
