Just like “victims” getting a pay day a decade+ ago…I tend to agree. Another coach, Matt Campbell, will be getting a substantial raise from his present employer. The book on how to get a raise has been perfected by Penn State
I don’t believe I ever said he didn’t know how to recruit.Same could be said about Campbell. Amazing he’s made millions and won a lot of games not knowing how to recruit. And he did it in Ames Effin’ Iowa. Must be lucky.
We’re seeing what an attractive football destination it is these past couple of months.Amazing we’ve been able to field a team at all the last several years! If it wasn’t for Franklin, PennState probably wouldn’t have had a team for the last decade!
No idea what Kraft’s opinion is on Smith but I feel pretty confident that the “no” on hiring Smith was a mandate from above (BoT members and such)Bendapudi is now involved and heard late last night that Kraft no longer solely makes the decision on who gets an offer. I have to wonder if this will increase Terry's chances. I think everyone involved would prefer someone with HC experience, but we are running out of time and candidates.
Aren’t we all supposed to do that? I mean so many on here cheer for every player that left and they left voluntarily. Why don’t you just go cheer for VT. Your negativity is annoying.
We may have weeks to go yet.
Reason #31 on why Kraft is an idiotWow. If this is legit, Kraft sounds like he is in way over his head. I can’t believe he is talking to players like this. He really needs to go if this is a real recording. No wonder coaches don’t want to work in this guy’s athletic department.
Let’s hope so since he’s likely going to have to be the coach. You should listen to it all. Kraft was spot on with nearly everything. The guy is very passionate and fearless! He wants PSU back to where we rightly belong. Back to prominence. Loved it!
Why don't you go to the VT or Pitt boards where you will be happy.Let’s hope so since he’s likely going to have to be the coach.
Says the guy who’s spent all of his time trashing our coach while he was our coach. I’m quite sure it’s guys like you that have added to the problem of finding a new coach. Why don't you go to the VT or Pitt boards where you will be happy.
He’s not saying yes….who’s next (to say no)?Wednesday night was Zoom interview, last night PSU flew out to Iowa to do an in person interview, working out deal with agent, We’ll see if Matt says yes today. Supposedly it’s a simple as that. Hopefully he does say yes. Like I said before, this program needs a new leader who is going to instill toughness and dedication back into the program. It obviously was missing this year. Even in a win, the team looked as soft as jelly against Rutgers and only on a fluke won the game. I hope Campbell says yes.
I believe PA is a 2 party consent state. Meaning Kraft had to know he was being recorded. If Campbell is a no, news breaking by end of the day should be Kraft fired, IMO.
That audio release though is bush league and whomever released it, if they can determine, should be held accountable in some manner.
At first I supported him until he exposed himself.Says the guy who’s spent all of his time trashing our coach while he was our coach. I’m quite sure it’s guys like you that have added to the problem of finding a new coach.
This purgatory that we're in is so weird. It seems every avenue this search takes eventually is sabotaged. It almost feels like a conspiracy.
Kraft is not the Head Coach, he is the AD. He needs to exude some level of leadership and professionalism in front of the players. But more importantly, what that recording shows me is that the guy doesn’t have the chops to sell a new coach on the Penn State opportunity. As further evidence of that, his results during this coaching search have not been stellar, and now the University President has had to get involved. He's not saying anything that the head coach isn't behind closed doors. Everyone is talking smack when the microphones and cameras are off. But I really don't like that this was leaked by the leadership council of the team (assuming that's who he's addressing).
We’re seeing what an attractive football destination it is these past couple of months.
If Campbell says no the only analogy I can use for this coaching search is Lucy continually pulling the football away from Charlie Brown and him not learning.Wednesday night was Zoom interview, last night PSU flew out to Iowa to do an in person interview, working out deal with agent, We’ll see if Matt says yes today. You're wasting time with him. He's teetering on ignore. It’s a matter of poor supply and poor management (allegedly). Of the names tied to the job:
1. Sitake - Kraft gave BYU too much time to counter AND he was a poor fit.
2. Chesney - Kraft’s slow play offended him
3. DeBoer - PSU never reached out to him
4. Boehm - He’s a Kentucky blue blood and not sure we even reached out to him
Who “rejected” Penn State?
We’ll be lucky to get Tommy Rees at this point the way things are going. If Campbell says no the only analogy I can use for this coaching search is Lucy continually pulling the football away from Charlie Brown and hmnot learning.
Who is left to pursue? Daboll or Rees, no thanks. They need to go hard after Jeff Hafley and then determine the leaker(s)and tell him or them that PSU has no room for disloyalty, hit the road. Finally, Kraft needs to be replaced for his handling of this search.
No thanks. We’ll be lucky to get Tommy Rees at this point the way things are going.
I don’t disagree but the proven head coach route just doesn’t seem to be working. No thanks.
He will be devastated! How will he survive! Lmao… you can run around your trailer park showing all your 3 toother buddies how you put someone on ignore!!!You're wasting time with him. He's teetering on ignore.
Terry's position at PSU is now untenable if a new coach is hired. As valuable as he is as a position coach and recruiter he also will be a polarizing force in the program if he stays.I don't see Terry as a GM type. I would like to do that because Terry has been so loyal but I don't see that fitting his skill set. I could be wrong as I am not close to any of this but just my perspective as a fan who closely follows the program.
Exactly. "We are goingto offer you $12 million per year. Are you seriously interested? Don't waste our time if not." I would think coaches would be falling over themselves to interview. What I dont understand about this search at this point, is if you target a coach.....its okay if he says "no" but the fact everyone gets leaked and then we are desperate to sign them, it becomes a national story, then they say "no" is just wild. At this point, id think Kraft would preface every interaction with " hey look, if you cant be had, save us and you the time of taking a meeting with us and embarrassing us again." If we throw $12M a year at you and it doesnt send tingles to your groin, we'd like to move on before this becomes a national embarrassment again.
So now it’s the fault of the fans for our current situation? So far you’ve blamed Kraft, the PennState brand, and fans.Says the guy who’s spent all of his time trashing our coach while he was our coach. I’m quite sure it’s guys like you that have added to the problem of finding a new coach.
Maybe he could be the GM?Terry's position at PSU is now untenable if a new coach is hired. As valuable as he is as a position coach and recruiter he also will be a polarizing force in the program if he stays.
I like Hafley but he is mentioned for NFL jobs and hated NIL.If Campbell says no the only analogy I can use for this coaching search is Lucy continually pulling the football away from Charlie Brown and him not learning.

Agree, I don’t know how you can listen to this and bee proud. I agree it’s bush league a player put this out, ( or maybe Kraft didKraft is not the Head Coach, he is the AD. just FWIW Kraft was on the football team at Indiana (I don't think he ever played in a game, but I know he made it as a walk on).Agree, I don’t know how you can listen to this and bee proud. I agree it’s bush league a player put this out, ( or maybe Kraft did), but he sounds unhinged. I also don’t think the players hear that krafts career is over with a bad hire. If I’m sitting there, I’m thinking about is the leadership right at PennState for me, not whether a set for life guy who never played the game saves his career, when he’s already totally mismanaged this. Does his leadership and direction resonate with me to be part of it. There is nothing more than forgive me because I’m trying . No acknowledgement on failure and no inspiration
I do not think he can do this job in a way that will be required going forward in college football. PSU will need to find someone like Chad Bowen who hopped from ND to USC and put together the #1 class in the country as GM. He is reportedly making 2M. University administrators should take note of this fiasco and restructure the program to prevent a repeat going forward. A future GM should be responsible for managing a recruiting staff, roster construction and compensation, etc. The coach will coach the roster provided. Naturally the HC, OC and DC will have a voice, but recruits will not be pledged to a HC but rather the program. If and when the coach leaves the stability of the program will be safeguarded within such a model.Maybe he could be the GM?
And a few of them are current employees and students.Ah yes. That was a bit low for sure. It seems there are many people who really hate Penn State.
Sad and most likely true. I think I know why they and others around the university will never want Smith as a HC and it has to do with belief systems and how outspoken he is about it. While the 409 thing definitely did not sit well with them. I suspect that Smith will be a HC somewhere after the dust settles. As I said a couple days ago he now has options. No idea what Kraft’s opinion is on Smith but I feel pretty confident that the “no” on hiring Smith was a mandate from above (BoT members and such)
