For many of the kids, not just Huhn. This is why parents are so important because with the benefit of a lifetime of experience, parents are more likely to see the big picture longterm rather than reacting to a moment in time. PSU was always going to come out of this better than Franklin at VaTech. All you have to do is point to history, tradition and resources. James won the 2026 recruiting battle but will lose the war in the end.

So, assuming it is Campbell, let’s talk coordinators. Whatcha got?
We'll have to see if he brings his coordinators along and if so then PSU will have to pay Knowles his guaranteed contract $.
Could be too that one of his ISU coordinators will be offered their HC job.

I wonder what Matt Sieg and Kevin Brown are thinking right about now.

Thank you, I think. I agree that we got another good one from ISU. Hopefully this one will turn out as good as the last one we got from you.
You guys should be excited. Before he arrived at ISU, fans were excited for a 6-6 record and a trip to the Pinstripe Bowl. This year we went 8-4, and half the fanbase was about ready to jump off a cliff. Campbell is a guy who comes in and raises the standard a couple of bars higher than where it was.

Before Campbell ISU rarely put players in the NFL. Now we have alumni like Brock Purdy, Breece Hall, and David Montgomery and a bunch of other guys lighting it up each week. Most of the Texans wide receiver room is from ISU. Campbell is an elite talent evaluator and developer. With the resources you guys have, he'll churn out NFL-caliber players.

He's got a similar eye for coaching talent too. Gave Alex Golesh and Nate Scheelhaase their first real opportunities and has a couple of guys on staff now that will be HCs someday. He'll bring in a great staff that is focused and works well together.

You are gonna get A LOT of coach speak with him, which is the only real negative I can think of. Get used to hearing "Becoming the best version of ourselves" a ton. He's a genuine guy, thought, and a total players' coach. I'll be rooting for you guys. Especially, whenever you play the Hawkeyes.

Listened to LT and it seems like the schemes are close enough that Knowles and the Iowa St DC would both work.

yep, this is ultimately what it comes down to for Campbell, does he want to stay at ISU and make decent $ with confort in the people he has working around him and an athletic program that is maxed out cash wise, or does he want to come to Negative Valley and make a whole boat load of cash but deal with idiots
The financial constraints there is a big reason we got Cael from them as well. I believe Cael wanted to build ISU into what PSU is today, but they didn't have the money or resources to make it happen.

Tengwall checks in.

Realistic perspective. Sounds like ISU's recruiting class has no one worth bringing to PSU but they do have current roster players worth binging into PSU, most prominently, Roco Becht (their QB), who has a fifth year of eligibility. Maybe he'll go pro. Tengwell mentioned a tweet by Tony Rojas indicating 90% of PSU players would portal if Terry Smith wasn't named coach. That tweet has since been deleted. We shall see but I would hope they would be mature enough to sit down with HC Campbell before entering the portal.

Very gracious. I hope you guys get a great replacement.
I think the feeling is mutual around here when you guys play Iowa.

If I had a school administrator (AD) talk to me the way Kraft talked to the players in that leaked audio, I'd be looking to get out of there too. It isn't possible to have any respect for that clown.

You probably weren't saying that when the multiple time captain was running back a pick six in the college football playoff last season.
That was a great play. But his great plays are few and far between. Plus he struggles with tackling. He's just not strong enough to bring down a big running back one-on-one. I love the kid....just reality.

I'm aware that his communication would be different when talking to coaching candidates. But I'm also aware that it is easy to spot an a-hole when the a-hole is as big as Pat Kraft. He oozes scum.
Yeah even if the audio wasn’t leaked he was trying to “rally” the troops by saying that the recruits bailed because of Penn State’s remote location. Wow that ought to get them all excited about staying here. Funny how recruits didn’t bail for that reason when Franklin was still here.

Campbell is a good fit I think - connections in PA and Ohio (recall Isheem Young - a S we recruited from Philly who got into some trouble - eventually ended up at ISU). Spent some time playing for Pitt. Has been courted before and has shot everything down. Does a good job with what he has, seems well liked and the ‘industry’ thinks highly of him. Better fit than Sitake to be honest and about as good a hire as possible given BYU is throwing around Bama money for coaches.

Anyone have insight as to his coaching philosophy on O and D?
Landon Tengwell said the ISU DC has been with Campbell since 2016 and favors (actually one of the innovators) the 3-3-5. Not sure that is a good defense for the B1G. The ISU OC has been calling plays there for two years. I didn't get the details on his scheme as there were lots of people talking around me.

I'm sure some have one foot out the door and the recording that leaked and Rojas' tweets lead me to believe how divided and ugly of a locker room Franklin had for what was supposed to be his year. So not for nothing, some initial pain may be worth the long term gain here. Nobody likes losing, but you cannot let the players dictate the terms after they are already now being paid.

Guess what boys, you signed up to get paid.....well now there are rules and standards. Daddy ball where Singleton running into the back of the OL half a game goes out the door and the best RB gets the most snaps. The mismanagement of the WR position and a few other things can now hopefully be addressed. I'm sure Campbell makes a run at Terry, but he may get some other interviews elsewhere....if so....good on him. 18-22 year olds are not the best decision makers most of the time and we know this so you cannot just let them decide the future. There are other alums in key spots that hopefully he can retain as well.

Please explain to me how Kraft’s comments are Franklin’s fault. Wow!
