The 3-3-5 means Enai White finally has a position as a DT in this defense...if he stays. Edit: Kemajou and Gilliam also. Coleman becomes am OLB
Hopefully they will stay along with Tatsch. Amare Campbell, Zion Tracy. Daryus Dixon, Joseph and some other secondary players.

The two NJ kids and the OT from OH (had an Indiana offer and Cignetti knows the OL) might be recruits who can switch to PSU, maybe try to get the DT from Chicago for another big body.

Depending on who stays/leaves from the current roster (I'm hearing that the guys are intrigued by the hire and wont automatically jump ship) they played a 4-2-5 according to their depth chart and have some beef up front. The MLB is a two year starter and tehy had no seniors in their secondary. I dont know how many would follow but there is some young talent on the roster

For context of the Paterno dysfunction that still exists and harms the University, and forgive me if this was posted, every PSU fan should listen to Lavar here:

Been a constant theme. OB talked about it, JF had to fight it for years. Look at some of the stuff posted today.....they are like a pack of Chiuahuas always barking about it.

The Cyclone DC has a lot of Ohio Midwest experiences, and probable recruiting contacts.
He coached at UCLA - University on the Corner of Lincoln Avenue, as we used to refer it as back when I was in high school. Of course the real name of the school is Youngstown State.

Heacock grew up close to Mount Union in Beloit, Ohio. My high school was in the same conference as his high school, but we moved up to the big boy Steel Valley conference before he was in high school, but before my high school made the move I had visited their stadium for various athletic endeavors. He could be helpful for recruiting in NE Ohio and Western PA should he choose to come to Penn State. However, being a former Div1-AA HC, he could possibly become the next ISU head coach.

I wouldn’t say none of ISU’s recruits are worth bringing. Remember, the current players are made up of recruits that were even lower ranked. This was one of Matt Campbell’s best classes ever. He had to do REAL scouting and recruiting at ISU to pull the diamonds from the rough. He’s gotten a lot of those lowly recruits in the NFL.
Just repeating what Tengweell mentioned who was focused on their ratings. I think you're right that there probably are players worth bringing in for the staff to develop.

Realistic perspective. Sounds like ISU's recruiting class has no one worth bringing to PSU but they do have current roster players worth binging into PSU, most prominently, Roco Becht (their QB), who has a fifth year of eligibility. Maybe he'll go pro. Tengwell mentioned a tweet by Tony Rojas indicating 90% of PSU players would portal if Terry Smith wasn't named coach. That tweet has since been deleted. We shall see but I would hope they would be mature enough to sit down with HC Campbell before entering the portal.
Of course they would. They were reacting to getting lied to ignored and having no info

Likely some will have to come hopefully. We have zero idea who is staying or going and he has done less with more so you kind of have to give him a pass here on any that want to come. Bodies will be needed much like OB and James' first couple of years.
In retrospect. I think you're right.

Campbell at his first meeting with the players should be like, if you have an issue with me being HC, you can leave now, no hard feelings.

Man, I just don't get the division and animosity in our fanbase. I dont see this in other schools fan bases. I have supported all our coaches over the years...going back to Rip Engle. I'm appreciative of all their contributions to Penn State. They all have done some great things during their tenures. Now I'm looking forward to the Campbell era. That doesn't mean that I can't still honor Rip, Joe, Bill and James for all their accomplishments and contributions. It just seems some fans take on this tribal mentality. Not sure why. We are all Penn Staters and we should be proud of our past, present and future.

I'm sure some have one foot out the door and the recording that leaked and Rojas' tweets lead me to believe how divided and ugly of a locker room Franklin had for what was supposed to be his year. So not for nothing, some initial pain may be worth the long term gain here. Nobody likes losing, but you cannot let the players dictate the terms after they are already now being paid.

Guess what boys, you signed up to get paid.....well now there are rules and standards. Daddy ball where Singleton running into the back of the OL half a game goes out the door and the best RB gets the most snaps. The mismanagement of the WR position and a few other things can now hopefully be addressed. I'm sure Campbell makes a run at Terry, but he may get some other interviews elsewhere....if so....good on him. 18-22 year olds are not the best decision makers most of the time and we know this so you cannot just let them decide the future. There are other alums in key spots that hopefully he can retain as well.

Yes but Tengwell said none were highly rated. Were they DTs. If so, you can't teach height/girth.
Make them DTs? Ive always thought Franklin's lines were too small.

you're right, of course

but our history and rotten leadership have created this- and a small group of pot stirrers are constantly on the job

I would be surprised if he is not brought in with Campbell. He is not a exclusively 3-3-5 guy, but also plays a 3-4 and a 4-3.

Haecock will retire after this year. If Campbell is hiring a DC off his staff, my guess would be Deon Broomfield the DBs coach. When Campbell left Toledo for ISU ten years ago, he brought most of his staff, so I would expect the same here.

Hawkeye fan here to tell you Campbell is a home run hire.
I dislike ISU but never could get there with MC...he was a lot like ferentz..solid respectful high character meat and potatoes old school ball coach with better passing offense than Kirk.

Glad Iowa will not face him every year, but not looking forward to facing him with PSU.

I root for BIG outside of league games, including PSU, so good luck.

Don't know how many ISU commits would follow Campbell. For one thing, ISU recruiting is all about stash and develop, and I imagine Campbell will want to target more guys who are ready to play in the portatl. Campbell is also not the kind of guy who is going to poach a bunch of incoming and current players. He's kinda of the anti-Lane Kiffin. Of anyone, I expect you might get our QB Rocco Becht who will be a 5th year senior and is the record holder for basically every statistical QB category in school history, including wins. He can be very erratic thought and some in our fanbase would probably welcome offloading him to you guys.

Can't agree with this. I would go more with, "if you have an issue with me being HC, let's meet up and have a discussion because I would love to keep you around".
I know what you are saying, but if any of them get up and walk out right away then and there without even giving him a chance, those players going to consume too much of his time. If they are that immature and closed minded, see ya.

Excellent hire and a great day for Penn State football! Welcome Coach Campbell! Time to get to work!

So what are people thinking who our OC and DC will be? I think both JK and AK should be shown the door. Not sure who we keep. Terry, yes but I think he gone. We need someone who can recruit Philly. I want a GM also.

As for the roster, there has to be some pretty good ISU talent that will come. Wide receivers? Linebackers? Do they have a decent QB? Grunk is decent but we need to see if there are better options including through the portal.

Of the current players here is my list of guys just of the top of my head that I hope are staying (in no particular order).

Rojas
Coleman
Granville
Gilliam
Cook
Kemajou
Harvey
Burnett
Wafle
Campbell
Tatsch

Wallace
Reynolds
Rapp

Shanahan
Donkoh

Of you do that, Grinkmeyer moves on. Tough call. I thought Grunk got better as he played.

There is no reason Grunkmeyer has to leave if Rocco comes in: You need two quarterbacks to win at this level in case of injury. Besides, Campbell recruited Grunk. He can be a more than solid backup to Becht.
