gotcha, he can go now. Promote Poindexter. Sorry if I misspelled his name. Do we know where Knowles interviewed?
Previous comment said Ok State but who knows. Seems like 90% of coaching news is fake. However I do think assistants are contacted a lot for head coaching openings so I don’t think it would be huge news if he did interview somewhere.

I’m in favor of Urban and think he’s an amazing coach, but negotiating the NIL environment is crucial for a coach now - ask any Clemson fan if they’re happy with Dabo’s old school approach. It wasn’t a single question, it was a single issue per the story.

I know this fan base always wants to instinctually crush Penn State’s admin, but no ones process is challenging LSU for most brain-dead - that would be near impossible. Dinging Meyer with regard to his NIL approach is a far cry from having your dimwit governor stepping into the process.
When it comes to NIL he does have name appeal and Kraft claims to have the money to get the job done. If it were Meyer I think it would already be done.

In that link they have a pic of him with Senate Majority Leader John Thune. Last week he is pictured with PA Senator Dave McCormick. My guess is that Urban is eyeing JD Vance's open senate seat in OH and having conversations before he does anything official
Interesting. Hm.

I think you’re mistaken. Coaches do this all time.

Knowles reportedly interviewed for the Ok ST job the Thursday before the Oregon game.

I doubt Key came to HV. More than likely Kraft took a jet down to ATL.
Also, not all of the interviews are in person especially the first one. I've heard of this computer thing where your face is on the computer while interviewing and talking with 4-5 other people all at the same time.

But in Keys case it was in person or at least the one we heard of. Shocking to some might be the fact that Key was the first coach PS had contact with. Personally, I think that says something about the interest on both sides.

Living here in metro Atlanta, this is really the first I've heard of Key, although GT plays 2nd fiddle to the Dawgs for obvious reasons. I hadn't realized that Key was part of one of the Alabama championship teams. Last year, he did beat Florida State (#10) to open the season, and Miami (#4) later on in the season. Overall records have been decidedly mediocre until this year - although looking at the schedule so far, the 8-1 record is hardly surprising - the biggest win is against Clemson (#12 at the time, now unranked). Given that GT is his alma mater, I'm a bit surprised he'd want to coach at PSU (the climate change alone is going to be a huge culture shock). Why PSU is evidently so hot on him is odd to me, other than the 8-0 start and "flavor of the week."

Interesting. I live in Gainesville and have heard the exact opposite. Ultimately, I think this is immaterial as Franklin will likely not be on the board when they cut ties with Norvell,
I've lived in Florida quite awhile and know some UF boosters. Universally they don't want Franklin.

I will be surprised if any team with conference or national championship aspirations takes him...UF, LSU, FSU.

Auburn...maybe.

I think he's going to have to go the VaTech, UNC route.

Do your own research, unless you have another agenda, Reuters reported it, as did several news outlets, its easy to track down. Jimmy Sexton is not the only one with the contract. Sandy, Pat, Board members and many many others have put eyes on the specific language of the contract that requires him to mitigate and the specific language has been quoted not paraphrased. And you know what? No one has pushed back on what was reported. Not a single person.

So, believe it or not; your choice. Not here to convince you, but the last thing this is is "wishful thinking" on the part of fans.
I'm assuming this was to me. You dont need to convince me. Nothing out there indicates what you're claiming. You just want it to be true. We all do. It is he needs a new agent.

A ton of buzz and speculation coming out of the weekend…hard to put a grasp on what’s true and what’s not.

-Elko is STILL an option. I just can’t see how this happens given the dynamics of A&Ms season. But this would have to be the home run of all home runs.
-Lea has emerged as a top candidate. No thanks from me. One good season on the back of a program changing qb. And they just played themselves out of the CFP and SEC title.
-Key interviewed.
-Hartline interviewed. And his WRs were incredible cs PSU.
-Brohm has entered the race but many think he’d stay at Louisville
-Drinkwitz still has interest, but might by vying for other jobs as well.

Are these the top 5 candidates?

Also, sounds like Franklin was about to accept the Tech job but might have second thoughts given other openings…if anyone cares.
Urban, Elko, Hartline, Key and Kelly...

Because no coach is walking away mid-season.
You know what? You never know anymore. 15 years ago you would have said the same thing about players skipping bowl games. If we were after a coach who’s team is not in contention for the playoffs, it wouldn’t shock me to see them leave mid-season.

Sure...I guess anything is possible but unlike skipping bowl games I think that's a bad look.

Urban still in play despite reports he bombed out on NIL in the interview? Hmm.
How you really bomb the NIL portion of the interview? Just say you’re going to refuse to pay players? I mean, the guy told Shareed Floyd he had a vision from God telling him he should be at Florida, then had Floyd adopted by rich Florida boosters so they could pay him.

Current Big Board (based on internet musings/rumblings):

Mike Elko
Eli Drinkwitz
Kalen DaBoer
Brian Hartline
Brent Key
Jeff Brohm
I think for some of these the chances of coming here are pretty slim but not a bad list. No idea on Drink. Would Key or Brohm leave their Alma mater? I know nothing but I think it will be Hartline or Campbell.

Forgot Campbell; but, he's really not mentioned much in the twitterverse when checking latest hot names...but Lane Kiffin will be pulling triple duty I think - will somehow coach Florida, LSU, and Ole Miss next year ;). Tennessee too if that job opens up.

Franklin owns three other homes separate from the one he currently lives in, FL CO and WA.

MD is a no go. MD has no mo money for a Franklin type hire and I get the sense he has little desire to stay in the BIG. He imo desires a change of scenery. Fumi wants to be in FL Franklin covets the UNC job which is most likely to come open in Jan. My best guess is he takes an ACC job where it's easier to compete.
Do you think the Unc job comes open if they make a bowl game?

Is the Alma mater thing overblown?

If you're an engineering grad from Temple, and you're a professor there, do you turn down Cal Tech or MIT?

I would put Manny Diaz near the top of that list. There is a substantial buzz around him. Listen to Tengwell, Diaz recruited the best class in Duke history. Truly, he’s done no differently in terms of Duke results than Elko. I think he’s the most likely to get the job. I don’t see some of those coaches leaving their alma mater and the other coaches leaving playoff team teams.

I would be OK with Diaz or Chesney (JMU)

Diaz and Chesney are my current 1a and 1b choices. Next would be Drink and after that Hartline. All of this is subject to change based on the latest podcast or youtube video! The suspense is rough as we see the recruiting classes fall apart and the team stink it up each week.
