If this is even remotely true, it tells me that someone in the process is diametrically opposed to hiring Meyer. You’re hiring a football coach, not a funds distributor. How a guy that won NCs with two different schools in two different conferences and raised another school’s profile out of relative obscurity can be rejected based on a single question about NIL boggles the mind. It also suggests to me that they have a "target" guy already and are waiting on his season to be over.

Otherwise, this convinces me that this process is a “horse designed by committee” and the camel they’re going to eventually choose is going to be a disaster. If you thought LSU and Auburn were basket cases…Penn State says, “hold my beer.”
I’m in favor of Urban and think he’s an amazing coach, but negotiating the NIL environment is crucial for a coach now - ask any Clemson fan if they’re happy with Dabo’s old school approach. It wasn’t a single question, it was a single issue per the story.

I know this fan base always wants to instinctually crush Penn State’s admin, but no ones process is challenging LSU for most brain-dead - that would be near impossible. Dinging Meyer with regard to his NIL approach is a far cry from having your dimwit governor stepping into the process.

In that link they have a pic of him with Senate Majority Leader John Thune. Last week he is pictured with PA Senator Dave McCormick. My guess is that Urban is eyeing JD Vance's open senate seat in OH and having conversations before he does anything official

I’m quite sure that Urban could learn how to deal with NIL. And we’re looking for someone who can recruit at the highest level and be a great game day coach and posters always point to Urban as one of those guys. There are no other candidates we could get that are great at all those things.

OSU just got a commit from #2 prospect in Ohio, OL Wymer.
PSU did not offer.
Get ready for 10 years of pain. Probably longer.
Yeah, maybe they didn't want him.

Didn't his family move to Florida? He would still have to play OSU and Mich.

It is my understanding that Franklin has multiple homes.

Franklin has ties to maryland, the expectations are lower than at PSU, and he knows the territory for recruiting.

While Franklin’s record versus um and T™️osu was OBVIOUSLY. o_O lacking while at PSU, I‘m sure he wants to compete and believes in himself. I don’t think he would shy away from another chance in the b1g. Again, the expectations at maryland are lower than at PSU.

Given how things ended for Franklin at PSU, he likely will have to take a step down. lsu and uf aren’t realistic. maryland could be a fit.

Franklin owns three homes FL CO and WA.

MD is a no go. MD has no mo money for a Franklin type hire and I get the sense he has little desire to stay in the BIG. He imo desires a change of scenery. Fumi wants to be in FL Franklin covets the UNC job which is most likely to come open in Jan. My best guess is he takes an ACC job where it's easier to compete.

Do your own research, unless you have another agenda, Reuters reported it, as did several news outlets, its easy to track down. Jimmy Sexton is not the only one with the contract. Sandy, Pat, Board members and many many others have put eyes on the specific language of the contract that requires him to mitigate and the specific language has been quoted not paraphrased. And you know what? No one has pushed back on what was reported. Not a single person.

So, believe it or not; your choice. Not here to convince you, but the last thing this is is "wishful thinking" on the part of fans.

He has several other options depending on where he wants to live and what he views as a better option to be successful.
1. VTech (ACC) is in a much less competitive conference especially Clemson and FSU circling the drain. He knows the DMV and will recruit the s**t out of it, Question is whether admin and AD are aligned. I am not sure he wants to go through that process again.
2. Auburn. History of success, has money, and there is alignment. Great recruiting environment.
3. UCLA, If he wants the B10 and would like to live in CALI. Not sure the non-alignment will be appealing.
4. FSU and Maryland may very well be open soon. I think he would kill it at FSU.

Anyhow, many options.

FSU will almost surely be open and he would kill it there in recruiting.

I would add Colorado to the mix. Also reported on 247 that georgia tech coach is interviewing for PSU
this week.

That would not be a great choice for him, given how difficult it is to recruit to Colorado. It may have even less talent than PA

I can't remember when so many desirable and at least somewhat desirable coaching jobs have come open midseason. Helps to understand Kraft's position on making the move so very early. It allowed him to get in on the most best coaches available early and in most cases 1st.

A ton of buzz and speculation coming out of the weekend…hard to put a grasp on what’s true and what’s not.

-Elko is STILL an option. I just can’t see how this happens given the dynamics of A&Ms season. But this would have to be the home run of all home runs.
-Lea has emerged as a top candidate. No thanks from me. One good season on the back of a program changing qb. And they just played themselves out of the CFP and SEC title.
-Key interviewed.
-Hartline interviewed. And his WRs were incredible cs PSU.
-Brohm has entered the race but many think he’d stay at Louisville
-Drinkwitz still has interest, but might by vying for other jobs as well.

Are these the top 5 candidates?

Also, sounds like Franklin was about to accept the Tech job but might have second thoughts given other openings…if anyone cares.

I live in FL and many of my friends are FSU alums and several very large donors to the football program. None of them want Franklin and they are openly telling admin and the AD that as well. Assuming Norvell is gone at years end.

Interesting. I live in Gainesville and have heard the exact opposite. Ultimately, I think this is immaterial as Franklin will likely not be on the board when they cut ties with Norvell,
