And that means exactly jack-shiit.

You act as if PS had some great historical playoff/championship tradition like Bama, OK, OSU...... when quite the opposite is true.

Bowl Alliance era - 0 title appearances
BCS era - 0 title appearances
4 team CFP era - 0 title appearances
12 team watered down CFP era - 0 title appearances

We are the laughingstock of CFB, yet there is an idiotic notion that no one would dare even consider refusing the HC job here. No personal reason for refusing exists that money will not change.

For you fools that consider it the best job open right now - you are due for a big dose of reality.
I don't know if we're the laughingstock of the CFB, but our fans definitely overestimate PSU's current relevance in CFB. Fans hearkening back to a golden age of greatness is comfort for some but only proves the point concerning the current state of the program. PSU isn't, and hasn't been for [insert your opinion on the amount of time], the top tier program it once was. Still. Let's hope someone comes in and catches lightning in a bottle.

Regardless of how it ended, PSU under Franklin since 2016 was clearly a top 7 to 8 program if not higher. God, Franklin had won something like the fourth or fifth most games since 2022 until this season. Also since 2016, regardless of what you think of bowls, since 2016, PSU played in two Rose Bowls, two Fiesta Bowls, a Cotton Bowl and an Orange Bowl, and won two playoff games and made it to a semi final.

If you want to say that PSU wasn't in the same class as a OSU, Bama, UGA or even Clemson or Michigan since 2016, then go ahead. However, that pretty much is where it stops. There are probably close to 130 D-1 programs that would give anything to have had the relative success that PSU has had since the 2016 season. Obviously, we're in a bad place now, but this program was thought of highly enough before this season, which turned out to be undeserved, to be the preseason #2 team in the country.

Finally, there's a reason why PSU plays in so many Noon Fox and Saturday night games; it's because that it has one of the biggest followings in the sport. So stop the garbage about how PSU isn't this or that; it still is one of the top brands in college football and, if the right coach is hired and does a good job and is given the proper resources, it should be back to being as strong as if not better than under Franklin.
