Where are you getting this? I'd love to see that contract because any good attorney can probably get out of that alleged clause.
The article at the link below claimed their organization received a copy of Franklin’s contract. It’s not quite to the point of requiring Franklin to take a job (as that would require something from a 3rd party that isn’t part of the contract).

But, it does have language requiring Franklin to search for a position and make a good faith effort to obtain it and receive maximum compensation:

Appreciate the link.
The article states, as I've suggested, he can go into broadcasting as well. But all this says is that he has to make an effort. It's like collecting unemployment. The bare minimum will suffice.

They probably only need him for 4-5 years. All the guy does is win. Today 65 is nothing I'm 77 I have a job I love; I work every day it's outdoors it's a physically demanding job I've retired three times from desk type management positions that had a lot of stress tied to them. Today 65 is probably the new 50. How old was JoePa. The next guy can be that 35-45 year-old coach.

Having said that he may not take the job and use this opportunity to get a raise and pretty things for his program.

But if it were me getting a chance to go back home (pa) and maybe be one of the highest paid coaches in college football in one of the hottest recruiting areas that's right out your back door? I would have a hard time saying no.

I like some of those other guys too, but I don't get to choose if I did, I might opt for one of those younger fellows tied to the state or the east. I like your choice I really do, and it could end up being him.
I'm 56 and look late 30s. I work a physical job. Just took another one. You keep moving around and it will keep you young. Take key vitamins. I plan on working til at least 72. I need purpose. 60 is the new 50.

I’ve come around to thinking Matt Campbell is a good choice. PSU needs someone who is young, energetic and focuses on fundamentals, attention to detail and execution. His buyout is only $2 million which is nothing for an experienced coach and his salary is $5million per year, which PSU could offer more even if it is incentivized. Give him the opportunity to rebuild the roster to find the guys he succeeds with and give him some time. He’s from Ohio, so maybe he has more recruiting connections in Ohio and near the Mid Atlantic region than I originally thought.

He’d do great at Penn State. I like that idea more than Diaz.

I didn’t at first. It isn’t a flashy hire, but I’ve come around to thinking his focus on fundamentals and effort would serve PSU well.

I like Drinkwitz as well, but I think Campbell is more realistic. He just got a new contract extension after last season and already makes $9 million per year and it increases every year. His buyout is $5 million this year and goes down by $1 million every year for the duration of his tenure.

I don't care who they hire but I have two requests. Get someone who understands game day management. Get someone who knows how to develop quarterback and understands the passing game. Is that asking too much?
Feels like 80% of teams I’ve watched do better than Penn State at the first thing you mentioned (and they had a few more boneheaded management mistakes last night).
The second one, we have to be bottom 10 in both deep ball and intermediate ball completions in the country. Same as the last 3-4 years minus the unicorn tight end.
But guess what, all the coordinators had decent to go to very good down the field passing games before and after Penn State. Clearly not emphasized at Penn State.

He’d do fine, and if you believe some media people who are supposed to have insider knowledge of the sport, he’s working within some of the worst NIL conditions in the P4.

He’s been around successful football his whole life. There’s a pedigree there. His dad was HS coach in Ohio and he played at Div 2 powerhouse Mount Union. The more I read about him, the more I like him. He seems humble and focused and his teams have an identity. I’m on board. It just makes too much sense.

If anyone wants to hear what Salt (of Salt and Pepper fame) has to say about the state of the program. Says PSU has been getting beat at the l.o.s. all season.

I thought "Salt and Pepper" referred to Todd Blackledge and Curt Warner.

Tell you what, we’d be good defensively. He’s got a lot of unorthodox things he does on D.

A guy like like Brian Daboll I think would fit the bill perfectly. He helped turn Josh Allen into having a deep ball threat. Of course he's not coming.
Would love a Sean McDermott type. Tough no nonsense type coach, but those are far and few in between.
I'm kind of leaning toward Clark Lea now (maybe the brand new shiny object LOL).

I like watching his offenses. Spread, single back, b12 style. If I remember correctly, they lost their starting qb in August but have done well offensively.

Brent Key, Jeff Brohm, Joe Brady 3 guys I wouldn't mind seeing coach PSU. I don't like using retreads as HC ... Never understood why NFL teams do it, very few saw better success somewhere else than their previous HC job. Who are some other names off the beaten path people are hoping PSU interviews?
Agree. For years, the NFL coaching tree was a fraternity that despite failures, guys just kept getting jobs. I never understood it either.

Love them all, I get the feeling Tech is going to do what it has to to keep Key. Brohm leaving his home would be awesome, seems like a longshot.
I consider Brady a 10/10 hire.

My off the beaten path hopes:

Mike Shanahan of Indiana
Alex Golesh of South Florida (don’t see him get a ton of mention lately). He’s actually my co #1 with Brady.
Bob Chesney

I know this gets made fun of, and I know it won’t happen, but Bill O’Brien would likely do as good a job as most the people I see mentioned.

I personally think think is less science and more art. I think there are a number of guys who could do a good job, get the kind of success Franklin had with more upside. A few, and you can’t know them ahead of time because of all the variables, that would do a great job.

Have to say both Key and Brohm have me interested. Brohm has excellent records against top teams. Key looks very good as well at Georgia Tech

I keep forgetting about Golesh ... He would be a good addition as well

Young, energetic, is, and will always be, forward thinking. Best of all, he’s kind of cocky with an edge. If you haven’t seen it, look up his fly by handshake with Tom Hermann. He thought Hermann ran it up on him so he went for 2 late the next year up big.
I think the program could use some edge these days.

OK... I have thought about something. As an assistant at Illinois Golesh tried to poach our players and permamently cripple our program back in 2012. Is anyone for him aware of this? Have people forgotten about this? Are there people who just don't care about it? In regards to Golesh, absolutely NO!

Even then, he was doing everything within the confines of the rulebook to have success…

Sounds like a guy who would use every resource in a school with a lot of resources to his advantage.

I don’t care if he pitched a tent in front of the Lasch Building 2012! He was following his head coaches orders. If he can help us so be it!

Says who? I read exactly the opposite in another thread where a podcaster stated that Urban contacted Kraft to express interest.
The external podcasters don’t know anything. The PSU media closer to the AD department do. He’s not interested.
