They just showed Mendoza laughing at me on ESPN, which made me think if Terry Smith would have won that game that probably would have sealed the job for him. May have blown his chance, whether he would have gotten it or not, damn should have won that game.

Franklin bragged about the expectations this year and fell flat on his face. Like someone mentioned he had four major opportunities: OSU, Oregon twice, and ND - failed. The split was inevitable after how this season began.
It could be two years to rebuild after Franklin raids the PSU roster and the 2026 recruiting class.
I’m really not that worried about Franklin raiding anything.
Franklin is a true narcissist…. he not only loves himself, he loves sycophants…people who artificially inflate his already bloated ego. For example, Andy Frank and Kevin Threlkel. They’ve been with Franklin since Vanderbilt.
I understand their need to follow Franklin… Glommers have no choice but to continue glomming.
If there are current players and/or recruits who buy in to his shtick, that’s on them.

An awful lot of this current roster has had no accountability and are soft. Not to mention the undisciplined and just stupid play. There are exceptions for sure. But its a significant problem. The next coach has to change the culture and in a hurry.
No one celebrates a big play while the other team is lining up for the next play to drive down the field for the winning score quite like BGJ’s Penn State teams.
How do you know who has turned us down? Because of rumors posted online? Fact is none of us know if the names being thrown around are even the real candidates at the top of Kraft's list.
I think I'd rather have Campbell than Drink, who struggles against good teams just like Franklin did. Campbell might not be a sexy hire but he does more with less than most out there. I have assumed Campbell isn't interested because as you said, his name has come up many times for many jobs over the years. He does seem to like ISU and as such probably has a very short list of places he'd be willing to go. Perhaps Cael can give him a call?
Hubbard went to OSU, I assume you mean Breece Hall? I don't know that ISU put many players into the league before Campbell, aside from maybe Senneca Wallace. He does a solid job given what's available for him to work with.
Tell me you don't regularly listen to Pate without telling me. He has constantly been an advocate for PSU and defends us often against the haters that say just because PSU hasn't been elite or hasn't beaten OSU often, doesn't mean that we can't.
Both. Franklin plateaued and has done sever damage to the program’s mental and physical toughness. Evidence? Record in big games (historically one of worst in all college football history).
Only one coach in NCAA history has done worse in key games. So it is VERY likely to improve.
I’d have to double check this, but he hasn’t beaten an SEC opponent with a winning record his entire time at Missouri. Like 0-15 Talent deficit or not that’s that major red flag. (I know he won at app state and has beaten other top 25 teams.) Also, ive seen them play 3 times with and without pribula. Kind of reminded me of Penn states offense. And not exactly the 1994 or 2017 offense either. I want someone with an edge and he’s not creative enough of an offensive mind to offset that. I absolutely don’t see him taking down OSU/oregon/indiana once, let alone on a somewhat regular basis. He seems like SEC Franklin to borrow that term. He also seems really tied to the south and wants to coach near family. (Completely understandable). Anyway, he a fine coach. Definitely not for us, however.
Totally false. Schiano, O'Brien and rhule have a combine 0 top 10 wins for their careers.
Top 5 is currently 48-3. Three coaches have too 5 wins this year out of 51 games. Most d1 coaches never get a top 5 win in their career. In a typical season the top 5 goes about 55-5.
You would know franklins record is above average except you only look at franklin's record. If you are going to talk bs about historically bad all time record then post the all time record list.
Joe had 0 top 5 wins this century. 0 top 9 wins this century. One win vs a #10 team since 2000.

I love Pate and listen to him regularly...he liked Franklin, did a nice trip to SC this year. I dont think he is right about the penn state situation, I dont think he has all the facts.
Pate has a personal connection to Franklin. So does Saban. That’s why they both took the opportunity to kick PSU in the nuts after Franklin was fired.

I'm sorry, how do you know we are going to be a 6-6 team moving forward? You think a new coach can't squeak by the Bowling Greens of the world and win the 4 "buy" games on our schedule year in and year out? Have you looked at our schedule next year? James was a fine coach and was given 12 years and $100M for it....he did well by penn state and penn state did well by him. Could the next coach be less successful? Sure, but go down swinging, see if a guy can breath some life into the program. Look, we weren't winning a national championship with the Frankin and the constant talk about the Semi-Final run last year doesn't change my mind. Lot of close games against the Minnesota's of the world, the Bowling Green game. The easiest playoff schedule anyone will ever see again from a 5 or 6 seed...we played 3 really quality opponents last year and lost to them all like we always do under Franklin. Unlike other posters here, I for one am not adverse to risk taking and trying something new....if it doesn't work, it doesn't work and you pivot....there are other realities and aspirations than being "really good" and stable(which admittedly, Franklin was). Sometimes in work and life you swing for the fences and lose....it happens, but at least you are grasping for greatness, sometimes that comes with risk, but I think the program will be fine.
I don’t think many here think it will be easy. In fact, it’s likely the mod will shift to more frequent coaching changes (6-8 years) and potentially higher peaks and lower valleys.
You just hope the average result is similar with maybe a Natty here or there. There’s definite risk here, but I think the program is at a point where they have to go for it.
Once again you have absolutely no way of knowing that. With the $, tradition, fan base, facilities, alumni support, stadium etc. any coach with a pulse can win more than 6 games a year here. The operation is too damn big to fail long term as we saw 13 or so years ago. Franklin did a good job on many fronts but he was not a great x and o’s coach period and it showed.
@PatKraftPSU is not Pat Kraft? You sure about that - did you look at that add resses Profile? Because the Registered Profile sure as heck says its him including his current Professional Position and Employer. Hard for me to believe that Kraft and PSU wouldn't issue a cease & decist if this Profile were completely fraudulent.
