That really would be a hell of a waste, going to UCLA? Nobody's going to win anything there. They might as well give that job to golden hair. It's almost so stupid of a decision that either I can't believe it's real or Penn State really didn't want him to begin with.

Well if nobody is announced by signing day, that is AD malpractice. If that happens, then Kraft should be summarily dismissed. He has a day and a half to make the announcement.
Not backing PK, but what if he has someone huge, but the deal is he cant announce until their season is done. And I am not talking about Sitaki. I am talking a true HR, like a Freeman.

If it’s a current head coach, they could also presumably be bringing several of their own previous commitments with them.
Yes. They can. But here’s the conundrum with that. If it isn’t announced that Coach X is the new coach at PSU before Wednesday, is Coach x then telling those recruits not to sign at his current school? Otherwise, they sign at his current school then hit the portal next month.

I can look the other way if we miss signing day and still hire the right coach. However, if we have to wait until 1/20 and miss the portal window, too, that is a much more serious problem considering our roster.

Well if that’s true, then he may save his job. Otherwise he should be gone for making such an egregious error.

It certainly looks like right now there is not going to be a “splash“ hire like promised. Maybe the next announcement by the AD is that he is resigning from his post.

I wouldn't want a coach that was willing to leave his team before their season was over. Wait until after all the bowls.
Would that coach be bringing his team with him, because right now Penn State is not going to have a team with the portal transfers, graduations and lack of a signing class. But maybe that’s what the university leadership (including the BOT) wanted all along.

Or he could be telling them to wait until February to sign. Lots of dirty ways it can be done, I suppose.

UCLA offers Chesney $5 million. Chesney gone. Player leaked locker room info when he told the team. (We shall see). Take Dayton's belt and shoelaces.

My thoughts are the exact opposite, I wouldn't want a coach who is going to do damage to his future team in order to help his previous team.

You think it is ok to quit on your current team in the middle of the season (a la Lane Kiffin) to go to another school, when you could just wait until the season was over? If you really want a certain coach, waiting another month to get him shouldn't be an issue.

UCLA?
Wow.
What, Kutztown hurting for cash?
No pads if it's above 80 degrees.
Blondie would approve.

Yes, but that requires him telling them he is leaving. How does that work leading up to a championship game and playoff? How does that not leak out?

I guess we'll just have to agree to dis-agree, this is a business, can't worry about feeling or being nice, my concerns are for Penn State, not whatever team some coach might come from. As much as it sucks for Old Miss, Kiffin is now LSU's coach and he should do whatever he can to help them.

That's how things work in places like LSU and the SEC. Penn State should be above that.

No it shouldn't. This is a cut throat business. If you want the job, then you need to assume it immediately. Every open Power 4 job except for Kentucky now has been filled.

It's a terrible example to set for the student athletes and it is just plain slimeball behavior. Not something I'd ever want to see at Penn State.

First, there are very few student athletes who play D-1 football anymore, including at PSU, and many to most of them have no loyalty to the school at all; the school uses them and they use the school. Second, the professional players who now play college football at PSU need to know ASAP who their next coach is going to be, and this is why every Power 4 job that came open except for Kentucky has now been filled.

Now that we are in December, every day that goes by without a coach being named is doing damage to this program that will takes years to fix, if it ever does get fixed.

Not sure what happened there, but I 100% agree. If it is not a HR, he should resign immediately. In three years when Sitaki is a bomb, Kraft can go get another job at Temple. However, this decision sets the team back years! We immediately become Nebraska.
