Not an advocate for him, but somewhat surprised Schiano's name hasn't popped up.....or perhaps I missed it.....
Career suicide for anyone worth a damn. Recruiting class of zero, ranked 138 out of 138. Kids portaling out daily. Huge losses from the senior class. You now have forfeited any of the previous candidates and need a program builder. Actually, Key would now be ideal but he said no already$$,$$$,$$$. That’s who
I just said this earlier this last night. He would be perfect. Program builder who finds ways to win and compete with terribly outmanned rosters. He's a program doctor who saves the patient every time. Don't expect 10-2, but he can turn what would be a 2-10 team next year into an 8-4 Outback Bowl. People will absolutely scream in anger at the hire but at this point there are less than 10 possible coaches out there who can save us. Willie Fritz can save us. Irrelevant how old he is. The job now is to find a way to compete with a roster full of basically Mac level guys, portal scraps, juco finds etc. Fritz specializes in finding diamonds in the rough and making lemonade out of lemons.Sounds like Kraft is looking at Willie Fritz now.
1st thing this morning Bendapudi should walk into Kraft's office and fire him on the spot then go to the Lasch bldg and promote Terry Smith to full time HC on the spot. It's time to move on from this Kraft created debacle.Career suicide for anyone worth a damn. Recruiting class of zero, ranked 138 out of 138. Kids portaling out daily. Truly pathetic. Any more excuses and scapegoats you want to offer for Kraft? On an insider board it is alleged Franklin called Sitake and trashed Kraft, the fanbase and program. If true that is low blow.
Who believes this nonsense?Everything has changed because now as it turns out Sexton has/is sabotaging this process because we didn't handle small game James, 1-18 James, 4-21 James, after 12 years when this dbag couldn't even say he was committed to Penn State or wanted to coach here in a press conference, and tried an end run around the AD to get more money. Unbelievable. This guy Sexton is the God of college football and he dictates what happens based on whether his clients get whatever they want regardless of results. College football is an absolute putrid turd.
A bit harsh.
If that is true than Kraft really is just a stupid human being who insists on trying to lure the most unlikely candidates to Penn stateSounds like Kraft is looking at Willie Fritz now.
No offense…. I live in Kentucky. UK football is not in the same universe as Penn State. We should never be hiring the same level of coach. Will Stein (Oregon OC) did as well and according to 'PSU sources' they felt he was too inexperienced. Then Kentucky hires him in less than 24 hours after firing Stoops. WTF.

Nope. Ever since Saban shilled for Franklin in that interview on game day after Franklin was fired means Saban is shiite now. Saban has same agent as Franklin, Sexton, and of course he was going to bash PSU. We are not getting Hartline either because Hartline's agent works for Sexton's agency. PSU is screwed and Kraft's days are most likely numbered. However, Franklin needed to go because he gave up on the team which is pretty obvious if you think about it.Saban's opinion is worth more than all the message board content in the world
Most talking heads in the media make shiite up.So you're saying Pete Thamel is a liar and making things up, because he absolutely says that Sataki has this.
It's all about the clicksMost talking heads in the media make shiite up.
Kraft is responsible for the “tough” situation. The professed rationale for firing Franklin was to get a jump start on the hiring process. Today is signing day for high school kids and many predict Penn State will sign no one. The portal opens on January 2nd and I anticipate existing players will be entering it as well. I guess it’s possible that Kraft will still pull a rabbit out of his hat but I have serious doubts about that. Why not?
With the exception of Franklin, no one else was hired more than a week ago. How does this play out if you wait to fire Franklin until say, this past weekend? My guess is not much differently. Franklin is likely snapped up by VT in a couple days and recruits start to bail anyway. In the past, you had one signing day in February (and no portal) that allowed for classes to stay together while coaches were being hired and given a chance to make their case to the recruits. You can't do that now. I don't know how you have someone in place either; the top guys are mostly going to stay put. Terry Smith lobbying for the job (knowing he will never get it) doesn't help. What does he tell prospective recruits? 'At least I'll be here?' Pfft. Should have made AK and JK acting interim co-HCs and not risk further disruption/division by having a Franklin friend/loyalist in the position.
And I doubt even Kraft thought Franklin would bomb against UCLA and NW after such a hard fought game against Oregon. But Franklin checked out and needed to go. It's a tough situation.
Not me. He's getting paid either way. He gets a cut of the buyout plus a cut of Franklin's new salary. He's not negotiating for and between different coaches. That would be a crazy conflict of interest and get him fired by many of the people he represents.Who believes this nonsense?
Wait! Does Bill Belichick’s young GF like Happy Valley? This is so fun. Maybe try Prime. #WeComin
Agree about SabanNope. Ever since Saban shilled for Franklin in that interview on game day after Franklin was fired means Saban is shiite now. Exactly. He'd relish the opportunity to negotiate another deal with Penn State for one of his clients. Laughing last is laughing best.Agree about Saban
but to think Sexton would tell Hartline he can’t take a job that’s going to give him a $6-7 million dollar a year raise is ridiculous
people need to stop with this notion that Sexton is out to screw Penn state and / or Kraft.
This begs the question then why did Sexton's coaches all settle for less money with their extensions over what Kraft was or would have offered. I'm not saying you are incorrect but to me those seem to be unbelievable coincidences. Doubt Sexton is the complete Devil he's made out to be but he was a constant influence in most of Kraft's attempted hires, negative or positive I don't know.Agree about Saban

I’d be OK with the first part.Diaz, with a 36-25 record. Great hire. Watch, he'll get an extension from Duke and we'll have to get a HS coach.
You're assuming PSU was going to offer those coaches jobsThis begs the question then why did Sexton's coaches all settle for less money with their extensions over what Kraft was or would have offered. I see your comment has been replied to and I can’t delete my post, so I’m going to go with…Inside info or conjecture?
Newsweek? Really? Today’s Newsweek is a step up from the National Enquirer.Newsweek reports Hartline still has 24% chance to get job.
They are usually correct.
Where do they get info?
3 hours ago is current.
I could not agree more. Anyone from the outside could quantify all the reasons why going after the likes of Elko, Deboer, Meyer, Saban and so on were unrealistic options if not a waste of time. Kraft grossly miscalculated and from all accounts the program will be the worse for it. If he does not pull a rabbit out of a hat he will likely lose his job for this fiasco. He probably did along with most Penn State fans it seems. So many people clamoring for Elko or Deboer or some other fantasy “home run” when Kraft should have been focused on the Brohm/Chesney/Campbell tier.
It doesn’t.I don’t quite get the interference from Sexton claims. Several coaches were fired but only Penn State gets Sexton’s wrath, all over Franklin? How does this make any sense?
She can lead the cheer teamWait! Does Bill Belichick’s young GF like Happy Valley?
Pretty sure a couple were like Cignetti and Elko for sure. You're assuming PSU was going to offer those coaches jobs

The only way Smit gets the job is the scenario you just pointed out1st thing this morning Bendapudi should walk into Kraft's office and fire him on the spot then go to the Lasch bldg and promote Terry Smith to full time HC on the spot. It's time to move on from this Kraft created debacle.
Keep in mind that it was Sexton who approached Kraft and the board for a JF contract extensionDuh.
If Sexton is pissed, it is because:
PK didn't rubber stamp (VT)HCJF's request for an extension last year
and/or
That PK was (In Sexton's view) petty and juvenile with how he handled the firing of (VT)HCJF
NOT upset simply that PSU and (VT)HCJF parted ways (ie, that Franklin was "fired") That stuff just comes with the territory, and no pro gets spiteful over that.... and Sexton has been through that process scores of times.
Me too, especially the song mentioned hereOnce again, the vision. Kraft and his staff, early morning, strong coffee aroma in the air, some breaking out cigarettes even though they haven't smoked in years. Yet here they are, lacing up those big floppy shoes, putting on their rubber noses and brightly colored hair. Some are giggling as they test the whoopee cushions and fill up the seltzer bottles. All this joy in the air yet in the background the melancholy voice of Judy Collins can be heard singing "Send in the Clowns"
Always liked Judy.
It’s me. I said that.Someone once said "You can't always get what you want...but if you try sometimes, well you just might find, you get what you need."
Have faith boys. We're going to have a coach soon and he's going to be a good coach.
The only way Smit gets the job is the scenario you just pointed out
The question is whether the job has plummeted in value or the value was not what Kraft imagined it to be. I lean to the latter. If the latter is true, then the initial targets to take the job were not well-considered so Kraft naturally struck out and here we are. That's the thing. 3 days ago this was a very good job and one that should have had plenty of potential candidates. You just needed to pick the best one and sign them to announce on Sunday.
Now, after putzing around for days unnecessarily, this job has plummeted in value and will be much tougher to sell to a candidate for coach.

Sad but true. Kraft is in the process of proving that he would hire a corpse before he would hire Terry Smith. That attitude alone is reason to fire Kraft. The only way Smit gets the job is the scenario you just pointed out
Who, exactly, has Kraft attempted to hire? This begs the question then why did Sexton's coaches all settle for less money with their extensions over what Kraft was or would have offered. I'm not saying you are incorrect but to me those seem to be unbelievable coincidences. Doubt Sexton is the complete Devil he's made out to be but he was a constant influence in most of Kraft's attempted hires, negative or positive I don't know.
I agree. I was not a fan of this hire to begin with, but given where things stand now he and Chesney may be the best options, and for different reasons.Perhaps Hartline wasn’t an option at the start but given the current state of affairs, I wouldn’t put it past Kraft to make him an offer he can’t refuse.
No offense…. I live in Kentucky. UK football is not in the same universe as Penn State. We should never be hiring the same level of coach.
