If this is reality, Campbell is a home run hire. He might be plan Z, but he should have been in the plan A talk to begin with.

If Kraft can pull off a Campbell hire and somehow retain Terry, my only gripe at this point would be that it should have been done sooner.

Iowa St board believes the offer is for 11.5m.

They don’t think they can match any of this - salary, staff budget, NIL, etc. They’re in the hope that he just wants to stay.

If Campbell wants to try and compete at the highest level, then he’s going to take it. If he’s happy and comfortable with his current situation, then he’s a lifer at ISU.

If Kraft gets Campbell, I’ll eat a bowl of Brussels sprouts…I say this because I would rather eat my hat than Brussels sprouts.

Jimbo Fisher (Not a bad option)

You could really open up the wallet and land Jon Gruden.

Both guys can recruit, both guys know how to win in big games.

Either option is going to demand a bazillion dollars in the NIL account but more importantly they’re going to have total and complete say about anything related to football.

Well, here’s your sign from a quick Google search:

Yes, Iowa produces Brussels sprouts, with resources from Iowa State University Extensionand local farms highlighting successful cultivation, especially as a cool-season crop that thrives with proper planting in May for harvesting through fall and winter

I never said he was, but I doubt he’s a a good as Franklin….doesn’t matter, because I doubt we’re getting him.
I've always wondered how much of Franklins success recruiting was his insistence he wanted to be first black HC to win a NC. I think that really appealed to many black athletes. Clearly he was also big on relationship building and pressing himself as open and honest. Does this make me a shiitty person to think this way?

Interesting, according to SI, Campbell was on our radar since October…
“Campbell was part of Penn State's search initially, though it's unclear whether he had any personal conversations with athletic officials. Campbell reportedly now is talking with Athletic Director Pat Kraft and Penn State administration about the job, according to On3.”

I'm guessing his agent isn't you know who.

Not sure how open and honest he is? Perhaps to his players but wonder about to the PSU admin and even his assistant coaches.

Paterno coached in a different time with more talent in his backyard. Also, I didn’t say they couldn’t be better than the 30’a without Franklin, I said if they got someone who is a good recruiter like Franklin, they’ll get around the top 15 like Franklin did…but there aren’t any really good recruiters left to hire.
I understand what you said and meant, but you also admitted there are no more candidates available who can recruit at Franklin’s level. Therefore, without Franklin (since he’s now longer with our program), the assumption is that PSU won’t be anywhere near a top-15 school in recruiting since no one else is available that can bring in those types of hauls. I don’t agree with that assessment because I think PSU can elevate a coach’s ability to recruit to some degree, but understand that is your argument. However, I completely share the concern that a drop off in recruiting is possible because of Franklin’s ability to connect with players and families, and if that occurs, then we will be searching for a new coach much sooner than we had to with Franklin’s tenure. I share some of your concerns but differ in degree of how well the PSU brand can attract players.

Bottom line is that we really do need a very good recruiter to stay relevant nationally.
