He's here to win football games and that will win over the fans more than anything else.
He's here to do more than just win football games. He's here to guide the student athletes here to not only be great players on the field, but also to be good students who are working toward getting a degree. In other words, to uphold the PSU standard that Joe set years ago.

Hes got a couple NJ kids in the ISU class that just signed that may jump. In the state of PA not much left there but if he can get 10 more kids in Feb and hit the portal, it will work out
His other major task will be to recruit the remaining roster minus the leaker(s) and get those players in tune with his vision.
Campbell played on several D3 championship teams at Mount Union. He's a winner and developer of talent. It wouldn't hurt to bring in his friend Nick Siriani one day to talk to the team.

I didn’t realize Campbell played for Mt. Union in college. Most of our HS assistant coaches played there back when I was in High School and the university hosted the Sectional Track meet that I competed in back in 1975. One of the best ever Div3 football schools ever and the program is nationally recognized. I also used to moonlight in Alliance, Ohio in the late 80’s and drove past campus all the time. If Campbell is the official hire, it really hits close to home for me.
He was an Academic All-American (AAA) there in 2002 and in 2022 he was selected to the AAA Hall Of Fame. That is a bio that a JoeBot can love!

Well, you bastards got a good one. Campbell is a perfect fit for PSU and will probably win a natty at some point. Sad to see him leave us :(
Thank you for your kind words. Somehow PSU struck gold when it appeared the mining would yield nothing.
It appears he may have finally been ready to move on to a program that could provide greater resources for coaches salaries, NIL, and recruiting.
I have no doubt it was a difficult decision but he certainly will have many challenges which may have been the draw for him.

I’ll eLiadd to the pile. Giving Liam Clifford supposedly $500,000 and some top high school recruits around $50,000 and totally botching NIL was and is inexcusable. If reports are true and Franklin wanted to give the highest portion of NIL to his current players, regardless of contribution on the field and that Kraft gave him the opportunity to sign big transfer targets and he didn't utilize it. To me this is where there were issues. Franklin being the buddy coach and the I love you no matter what and you have been loyal to Penn State so I'm going to reward you with cash, even though you might only catch 3 passes for 25 yards, is insane. Any top program is paying massive NIL deals to play makers and game changers, the fact that he didn't want to do that is what caused him to have to leave. He will take that mentality to Blacksburg, he will sell that to the guys there, they will love him, he will make them feel good and he will be right where he was here, except without the horses behind him that he had in place at PSU. VT will have to fight off Pitt, Clemson, GT and Miami...

Someone said DeLica and Clifford were getting 500k each…

What former recruits are good targets to flip back to PSU? I am not sure of the rules but I would assume the recruits who have already committed would have to initiate interest at this point.
I think they would. I'd take Kevin Brown (OL) back no questions asked.

Campbell is a good fit I think - connections in PA and Ohio (recall Isheem Young - a S we recruited from Philly who got into some trouble - eventually ended up at ISU). Spent some time playing for Pitt. Has been courted before and has shot everything down. Does a good job with what he has, seems well liked and the ‘industry’ thinks highly of him. Better fit than Sitake to be honest and about as good a hire as possible given BYU is throwing around Bama money for coaches.

Anyone have insight as to his coaching philosophy on O and D?

Krafts office has too many leaks. Every target was leaked and it gave the other school time to match. The leaks also let Chesney know he was plan b and he moved on.
Listen to Lavar's podcast today. Sounds like the leaking may have been intentional according to his take on Jay and Lubrano.

Interesting, according to SI, Campbell was on our radar since October…
“Campbell was part of Penn State's search initially, though it's unclear whether he had any personal conversations with athletic officials. Campbell reportedly now is talking with Athletic Director Pat Kraft and Penn State administration about the job, according to On3.”
I read somewhere about previous schools trying to woo Campbell that he told them he wouldn't discuss it until after the season was over. Maybe that's what happened here? Our incompetence in handling this took so long that we fell *** backwards into a great situation with Campbell?

Maybe you should heed your own advice and stop blaming Sexton, Jay Paterno and Lubrano for Kraft’s failures. I don’t recall O’Brien or Franklin kissing any rings.
Umm, how do we know the facts and say "Kraft's failures", Kraft only failed on this message board and some others who have been Tweeting shiite talk. BTW, I am a French Model like the internets say. wee wee. 🤷‍♂️ 😂

So, assuming it is Campbell, let’s talk coordinators. Whatcha got?
Great question!! Just read something that his DC create some safety line up that was copied by Knowles, and Oregan, and others. So based on that, hopefully he brings his DC with him. OC, no idea but I think the big zamboni experiment has run its course. That being said, it takes a coaching stafff to all be on the same page. Maybe if we get a new OL coach that is more effective and the blocking schemes compliment what the OC is trying to do that could have a big diff.

There will definitely be e some regrets. Especially in a year or two.

For many of the kids, not just Huhn. This is why parents are so important because with the benefit of a lifetime of experience, parents are more likely to see the big picture longterm rather than reacting to a moment in time. PSU was always going to come out of this better than Franklin at VaTech. All you have to do is point to history, tradition and resources. James won the 2026 recruiting battle but will lose the war in the end.
