I wonder what some of the instigators on the current team are thinking now that we have a great coach and an influx of NIL money? Keep our players that have been dedicated to the program and allow the others that are instigators to leave.

FWIW, I saw where Campbell has a better career record vs ranked opponents than Lane Kiffin. And that’s with significantly lesser talent and NIL. We won the carousel boys - it was certainly a carousel though.

Why? It takes 3 years to learn his defense and all 11 starters next year will be brand new. They should both be gone

Kraft can silence this by saying in his introduction that "there was a lot of speculation out there. When we started, Campbell made it clear that he would not talk to other schools during the season. Whereas it's true that we made a play for Sitake, Campbell and Smith were always in the picture. The timing of it had us in a position sooner with Sitake, we followed through with it. When it became obvious he was going to stay. We were fortunate that Coach Campbell was ready to talk." Or somethng like that.

There was a write up from Matt Fortuna on Twitter that Penn State reached out to Campbell at the beginning and bad information on how to contact him led to the requests never making it to him.and left the initial inquires unanswered. For what its worth.

It’s absolutely wild. It never made sense that he was not involved earlier. Most coaching boards had him listed early on.
I am wondering if this is Campbell's call or something imposed/requested by PSU? I would hope/think Campbell is fully on board with it given the circumstances and perhaps he was convinced that keeping Terry will help to retain players for next year. Seems pretty early to have a definitive staff decision.
It doesn't hurt that our secondary has generally been pretty solid under Smith (assuming that will be his main responsibility)
Solid? Rutgers absolutely destroyed our secondary. They could not make a stop when they needed to all season.

There's still another signing period and unsigned players so we'll likely get some folks with that. And recruits from ISU will have to option to be released and I expect to get a few of them - even if they are not the highest ranked recruits, Campbell has shown the ability to coach up players.
But yeah a bunch of portal players is in the future
I think he will calmly speak with the players and field questions in the group and then invite those who would like to visit him in his office to set an appt.
Hopefully there is not as much portal movement out as we might be anticipating.
He's been a coach for plenty of years and certainly has a sense if a player will be a team player or troublesome for team chemistry.

We all saw the rot that infested this program, here is a good x and o coach with something to prove to go clean it out. No problem supporting and giving him time to get things right. If he can’t do it, there will be another. No worshipping at the alter of former coaches for this school ever again.
