He can sing and play... lyrics need some work but from what I could gather from the comment he made he just slapped it together in one night so that's pretty good all things considered.

The name Jim Tomlinson sounds very familiar to me so it's possible I've seen him play around here at some point, which could be why this is of a slightly higher grade than the crap-rap people throw out every few months.

on when we should and should not ring.

And Jim Tomlinson used to play in Starkville quite a bit... he played Mugshots an awful lot while I was in school. He's definitely talented, but I'm not quite sure this shows it.

It was about an hour or two before prime bar-time and he was playing solo and playing his "artistic renditions" of some Dave Matthews songs (which is pretty redundant considering DMB's latter catalog). His jams were so ludicrous that even Dave Matthews, himself, would have said "Hey man, I think that's enough jamming for this one...lets move on to the next song". At one point, it sounded like his guitar strings had snapped...except the ordinary split-second sound of guitar strings snapping was somehow elongated into 5-10 minutes of "jamming". It sounded so bad that left my favorite bar and I still remember that experience vividly nearly a decade later.

In his defense, he's not that bad (not good though).... just a pretty average solo performer of popular songs. Also, he stood no chance of being highly regarded since he was playing around Starkville about the same time as the most awesome solo "guy and a guitar" EVA!....Brady.... R.I.P.

Some of you need to give the guy a break. While I may have been around before his playing days, I think the song is pretty cool. Why would you knock the guy for writing a song about what we all seem passionate about? Keep up the good work, Mr. Tomlinson.

If so then I stand corrected, he is the reason I've left Dave's Dark Horse many a time before the night was over, for the very reason you stated. His never-ending jam-band renditions of never-ending jam-band songs get old, fast. I feel like I've been deceived...
