You have as many issues with the Abemarle coaches. If you want to know what happened then ask someone across the river. Don't bring it on a message board unless you are ready to discuss your team. I know plenty about the AHS history that would be deleted on here.
I have only heard limited info and all rumors of what happened to Coach Thomas.
"My team?" Last night I was at Richmond for their game against Myers Park. Next Friday I will catch the first half of the Green Sea Floyds SCHSL 1A state title game versus Lamar and the second half of the Catholic game v Kings Mountain 3A game. Went to more West Montgomery games than any other 1A team in the state over the last five years or so.
You are an Albemarle supporter. You always have been. That is "your" team. Congrats on taking in the high school games. It's awesome. If you are as connected as I think you are then my opinion is that you were chumming the water. I thought you were better than that. You've been on this site for 15 years. And obviously know what goes on in the YVC. Be better.

I honestly do not know what happened with Thomas. I heard various rumors. Since it was brought up here I asked. No worries. Not a big deal if it were I would know.
I thought you got booted off for your dumb comments apparently not. Btango was just asking how he got shafted and pretty sure he is not an Albemarle guy, I may be wrong
Traveled in from out of state to watch him break the state career TD record in 2001. Saw Nick Maddox set the record that was broken. Only other Albemarle regular season game I have attended since was Davidson Day and that was really because of their coach, Chad Grier.

Do not think they forfeited games so that aspect seems off.
That is interesting. I think some times people are not criminals or bad characters but just are not good at certain items. Could that have been the case here?

West Montgomery forfeited the entire 2008 season due to issues with players participating without having up to date physicals. They went 8-5 on the field, losing to Thomasville twice. There were a lot of internal issues and politics at play with the decision to remove Coach Thomas. At the end of the day the program recovered quite nicely. Can't say that about a lot of schools that have to deal with adversity of that magnitude. Not to mention the lost years prior to that.
Thank you for providing the information. I did not think the forfeits were residency or academically related. I hate the physical rule but it should not be missed and it is a huge liability if the player without one had a medical emergency. I have always thought instead of forfeits the coach should be miss games and the team lose home playoff games or the cut of the gate on a road playoff game.
Why did John Pate only stay for two seasons after replacing Thomas?
Pate went to a small college in Minnesota I believe. From what I remember he or his wife have family there. Pate was never a "long term" option. He was brought in to clean up the mess from the previous two coaching staffs. He did and left the program in good shape. From 2001 - 2008 West Montgomery was in shambles with leadership. And yes, that includes the great BW Holt. The stories I could tell you about his two year stint would blow you away.
BW never had a chance. He could have done something at WM. Hate we lost him. I was fortunate to play and learn a lot from him. The man knows his Wing T like back of his hand. His last year at WM was memorable beating a #1 West Wilkes as a #16 seed and losing to Brevard in 2nd round 14-7 in 2OT. He had something going
2 years? Nada... there are some coaches who can step in and get an immediate result. Benji is one of them. In two years...3rd round or better...
Honestly if indeed Principal Brown is becoming Coach Brown, which I do believe is happening, the assistants will be interesting. There are a few that should be considered from West Montgomery. Any of them that thought or thinks Akins could coach should be shown the door. The talent at West Montgomery is young, but it is there. They would have benefited greatly from a JV season. The size is there. Once the coaching staff is in place the numbers will return. You can't expect kids to be motivated by a coach that barely knew most of their names. He will go down as top three worst coaching hires in the history. But, to his credit, he took the job by default. Didn't want him as coach to begin with. After the "hired" coach bailed and disappeared for whatever reason after two days on the job you get what you get.
Evidently you have a lot of knowledge of the program someone who hung around a lot. You must not forget the previous year went to third round of the playoffs I do believe. The next thing you must consider Mr. Deadpool is the talent level on the field. We played Varsity football this year to honor the seniors who worked hard 4 years to be able to play this year. Since you are so knowledgeable about the program you should have known this. Some of the best assistants were on the field this year. Do they need an upgrade yes. Maybe you could support the new booster club and make sure that the money is there to bring these assistants in. Or maybe you can keep complaining about the current situation and offer no solutions.
LOL...you think I haven't been involved with this since the decision to combine a year early was made? As far as my monetary contributions go, well, let's just say I'm well in the mix of when the final damn decisions are made. I sat in the room trying to figure out how we were going to pay BW's outrageous bills when he "left" West Montgomery and they got paid. So, maybe you should join in the mix and pony up some of your money to go toward the upcoming expenses. I can send you the meeting schedule. Bring your checkbook or cash.
No problem but be a supporter not a drag on the coaches that dedicated their time the last 2 years to coach these young men. Thank them for what they did. Don't beat them up. I have no problem giving time or money been doing it for years. Since I know meeting times maybe you and I know each other and have differing opinions. Support rather than condemn it is what it is.
When the talent is there, the effort from the kids is there and the obvious lack of effort from some, not all, of the coaching staff isn't then it is time to call them out for it. This is the real world. Coaches get fired on a regular basis. It's all about performance. It's not personal. The kids walking the hallways that decided not to play will tell you that the practices were unorganized and sometimes there wasn't even a coach there to open up the weight room this summer. That happened more than once. Change isn't a bad thing. Embrace it. It's here.
Griddie with the HR.... So far the game locations are being discussed. Outside chance the playing field at MCHS could be ready. Although there is a strong push to play the games at the old Troy High School Field.......... just joking. But yes, some games at East, some at West. Not sure how that'll play out. The fact that they are able to combine and move past the joke of this past season makes everyone involved happy. Not to mention the players. They've been chatting and are ready to roll.
I’ve said that I doubted it would happen. But that is the one scenario that might work. If it’s true, two other things are also true.
First, he doesn’t want to be the principal at the new school.
Second, he feels comfortable that the position will still allow him to spend quality time with his family. The Browns are extremely loyal to their family.
Haven’t talked to him in a couple of months, and wouldn’t ask him if I did. If this is true, he’ll announce it in his own time in the proper way. If so, I wish him the very best. He’ll be the best coach they can have.
