I read something about the new HS that will consist of 100 classrooms. To relieve some other schools like Myers Park, South Meck and Ardrey Kell. But stated that the HS would open in 2024.

I think they were added to Catholics Football schedule for this fall? Or is there more than one CMS HS coming on line the next couple years?

Charlotte Coaches will leave the school they are currently in to start fresh. The question is, which coach(es) will apply?

Yep that's what saw too, will open in 2024. Its called South Ardrey Kell
Often, schools in the planning phase receive a "project name". "South Meck and Ardrey Kell Relief" (it will also relieve Myers Park) would be that project name.
The Charlotte Observer reported that actual name of the new High School will be, Palisades High School.

It would be foolish to name the new school South Ardrey Kell, because the very reason that Ardrey Kell is named that is because that is the name of the road it is located on. The new school is located on North Community House Rd.

I think palisades hs is on york rd in Charlotte and "S Ardrey Kell" HS will be built on N Community Rd. Bur idk, I don't live in Charlotte, just going by 1 of my friends that live in the area and their kids will go to new hs in 2024

This school is simply going to give the Charlotte crew more transfer problems to discuss. Congratulations

I've seen some schools release schedules with Palisades on there. Are they planning on playing Varsity next year?

Palisades is a good name. Not another one in the Carolinas but needed a unique mascot/nickname. Something that goes with the area or different for strong branding. The Palisades Protypes.

Reading the commentary on the mascot selection, the final choices were Hornets and Pumas

Btango! Have they started interviewing for a Coach?

Not sure. If opening this coming fall I would expect they will get started very soon and make a hire before school is out.

I have alwas thought a school should open with a freshman and sophomore class playing only JV year one.
That is kind of what I was wondering. It seems that if they are playing a varsity schedule next year, they will have upper classmen at the school. Just not set up to be very competitive with the players and coaches not even getting together until June.

I agree. The only downside is that your conference’s Athletic Directors will pitch an absolute first in year one (they did in Davidson County) because that makes the schedule more complicated. Getting an extra varsity game is apparently challenging if you aren’t willing to bring a JV into the mix for Thursday night.

Some of our area schools countered that (when Oak Grove came into existence) by scheduling a second game with a conference opponent. Long story short, it all works out just fine after year one. Starting with JV is the best move from a football perspective.

There can’t be another Puma mascot in the NCHSAA. If there is, I’ve never heard of it.

Funny mascot story:
When Oak Grove‘s mascot was proposed (Grizzlies)…. Some folks in the area said it was a terrible idea. Their reasoning?
”There ain’t no Grizzly Bears in Davidson County!”.

Ok.. fair enough. BUT…. To my knowledge, there are no Black Knights, Dragons or Spartans either. I’ve also never seen a Panther.

Puma is unique in the NCHSAA and probably most any where as a mascot. Not bad but are they going to be a "Puma" school? Come out in the Joe Willie Namath's.

Rocky River HS is a perfect example of a cluster bomb. Named the school after a river that is 13 miles from the school and was supposed to have classes toward things to do with nature and the waterways. Right.
When the school was conceived I wanted it named after the community that had a railroad station in the old days, Allen Station. I thought the Locomotives or Engineers or Rails would be a good nickname / mascot and the cheerleaders the Cabooses.

I love a school that is able to tie in something local with their mascot! One of my favorites is in Danbury, CT.
They are the “Hatters”. Tied to the local hat making industry that dates as far back as the 18th century.

I also like quirky ones. Like the Poca High School (WV)…. Dots.
And the Watersmeet High School (MI)… Nimrods

Williamsport (PA) Millionaires. That is the home of the Little League World Series. No idea where the name came from.

I think Grimsley Whirlies is about as odd or unique as we have. My favorite is Wonders and I like the school having a name, A.L. Brown.

South Stanly was once the Rebels. THey changed to the Rowdy Rebel Bulls. So you know, that is a bull that raises H and doesn't give an F.

Did work in Ambridge while in college. Beautiful town. The Ohio River flowing right through it was definitely a sight to see.
