I was looking at these pictures earlier and I didn't even recognize the jumbo tron while I was looking at the facade. I went back at looked at it after you said something, and It's not that big of a deal. Stadium looks sharp

Good Grief, the field looks horrible.

ETA: On a side note, I was told when we resodded the field, we didn't use our own grass. We developed a world class athletic turf that is used in 3 or 4 MLB stadiums, the Rose Bowl, Tiger Stadium, and others... and it USED to be on Scott Field (and looked DAMN good, too)... did we just say screw it and decide to use something else? What's the deal there? This new grass doesn't look near as good as what used to be on the field.

They can have that field looking great in a short period of time. It's not like they are about to play next week.

The one thing I'm not worried about at mississippi state is how the grass is going to look. We usually got that covered. It looks the same in both pictures just maybe earlier in the morning on the second one?

Unfortunately "OUR" grass does not hold up as well in our area as the UGA strain does. We've been using it for years now. And I'll venture a guess and say those pics you posted are the UGA strain and not ours.

If you wanna play that game, jackass, there are no leaves in the trees in the second picture, so if your keen eyes would have seen that, it'd be fair to assume that's early fall, too? Don't be a dick.

My point is since we put in the new grass, it has not looked as healthy, full, or green. I do know our university developed a grass specifically designed for athletic fields (that's used at several high profile venues) that we took out and are now using UGA developed turf, instead.

I somewhat understand the business side of it, but it's like developing a product that you can use, then using a competitor's instead.

But hell, what do I know... It's just grass.

Look closley at the field view in the first pics....I think they are aerating

the field similar to the way they do golf courses twice a year....

I could be wrong, but thats the first thing I thought. If so, that explains everything.

Sorry, man, but he has a legitimate question. Using the construction pics and surrounding foliage as a reference the second pic was taken between 10/30 and 11/09. The only two Bama games the first pic could be from were 11/12 and 11/14.
Side note: Kartono Liano was the only teacher to ever accuse me of cheating. I broke out laughing, and the look on his face was priceless. Still liked the guy even after that.

Best "C" I ever earned at MSU. He was hard as ****. I think in my class, there were like 3-4 people that earned better than a C. 3-4 people that earned a C and the other 30 got a D. Most people reserved one of their Ds for his class. But, it was crazy informative.

Old turf did look better for sure.

No idea if it play any different though or requires less or more maintenance though. Regardless, they will overseed it with ryegrass when the time is right and it will green up and look great. Based on my turf 101 knowledge, bermuda doesn't really green up like that on its own. Even Augusta will look rough around the edges when it's not April. That property takes advantage of the cooler spring weather and uses rye to get that lush perfect green effect - plus an army of volunteer supertintendents that can attend to every square inch of the property.

moturfdog is right, it has been verticut and aerated in the field level pics. The dead looking color is from the ryegrass dying off (or was sprayed out) that was put down last Fall. That's the negative to overseeding whether its sports fields or golf courses. The rye looks great during the winter but it also delays the green up of the Bermuda in the spring because it shades it out and competes w/ it until it starts to die off naturally or is sprayed.

any of you with Seal Club / field access happen to have a pre-construction pic to put side by side with the last pic in Shamoan's pics? I think the difference looking at that end zone from field level will be remarkable

I sure wish they would get pressure washer after the east and west side stands. It would be amazing how much better the overall stadium would look if they painted the riser face portion of the concrete on each row and step. Alabama did this and all of the older sections look much better. It would certainly blend blend the areas of the stadium better.

That was one of my favorite classes at State. Perhaps the best day was when he mentioned that he had just started working on a small theory of stock market performance versus Super Bowl winners. I rattled off the winners through Super Bowl XXV, and a couple of other guys helped complete the ones after that. Liano was writing as fast as he could, and was ecstatic that we had helped him out (there was no Wikipedia at the time, and we saved him a trip to the library). That led to all sorts of interesting discussions.

I did Kohers's MSBA degree for finance and had Liano for portfolio theory. We had to do the Markowitz formula by hand. It was my most difficult class in grad school.

After 9/11, Liano told us about his family's exodus from Indonesia. They were/are Christians and his brother was murdered for swallowing his spit during Ramadan. He was accused of mocking the time of fasting by eating in front of Muslims. It was basically an excuse to kill a Christian.

Hey putz did you ever think about the time of year you are looking at the grass. In the "old grass" pics your are referring to the field is over seeded with ryegrass. Notice the Bama cheerleaders in the lower right, this would tell you it was an early November date, no Bermuda is that color that late in the fall in North Mississippi. If your keen eyes would have noticed the stadium pics also show a turf that has been verticut and topdressed (these are cultural practices done to promote a smooth level surface and encourage a more uniform growth habit) which would explain the lack of color.

Could one of you guys with photoshop skill show what the new endzone would look like with a second level of club levels and the top 10 rows going all the way across the top?

Ok, First to answer the question about the grass that is on the field today. It is 419 Bermuda that came from Foley AL. the reason that it was used was availability. The old turf was MS Choice, east of the Mississippi River its licensing for growth and production is controlled by the Mississippi Sod Producers and none of them grow it and they have never really tried to market it. One good grower in Corinth had some for a while but they don't have the ability to market it and it is a non player. As for west of the Mississippi the production is controlled by West Coast Turf who is a huge player in the turf biz. They market the grass as Bullseye Bermuda and it is produced in AZ. It is widely used on both athletic fields and golf courses. The reason it wasn't used was cost and trucking the grass from AZ. As for your pictures they are a poor example when talking about what kind of grass is on the field. Both pictures are of a rye grass overseed one looks like like the fertility is much higher as it should be right before a game and the other looks like its a little colder and lower fert, the feild is sprayed with liquid fertilizer a day or so before the effects are not long lasting. As to the point of not using our product, I agree we should be using the grass that was developed at MSU. The real failure is put at the feet of the short sighted producers. You just cant truck that much grass from AZ.
