If Coach Schiano has more trust in his coaches and is less involved with the day to day coaching on the offense and defense, do we know if he is more involved with the special teams?

Weird question! Stupid question. Why would he? That's the least of their problems. He is a defensive coach his entire career.

He spends time coaching special teams. There is no dedicated coach, but assistants. He is effectively the special teams coach.

Omg the guy said he is new to the forum.
You don’t need to say stupid. You are the guy that said the BIG wouldn’t add usc. That was way more stupid
It becoming more stupid that they did. They had to add more schools that have near zero media value.
Besides new or old to the forum anyone knows the biggest problem is the offense.

yes the offense has been the problem . Crappy QB and crappy OL is not a recipe for success. Maybe we get improvement ??

I've been very open in my opinion of Wimsatt that he doesn't have "it". I've said earlier that the players are saying Wimsatt has improved greatly this off season. Time will tell but I believe quotes by teammates more then the coach speak.

I'd prefer HC Schiano be more involved in the defense and allocate an extra coach to the offensive side of the ball.
he's involved in everything, even down to brand of napkins provided in concessions. it's just not in his DNA to empower anyone to do anything big or small without his direct approval.

Hahaha, wow wasn’t expecting that. I didn’t say he was going to only coach them, just be more involved. In Schiano 1.0, RU’s punt block game was second to none and those blocks led to wins. 🤷🏻‍♂️. Schiano 2.0 hasn’t showed the blocking consistency they had his first time around. Maybe it’s the Jimmy’s and Joe’s. Hopefully this year they get more.

Of course. With some of these games having a slim margin for error, I’m hoping we get a few more blocks.

Special teams and Defense is going to be improved. Offense is the big question mark.
You have no basis whatsoever for your comment on special teams. None. Zero. Just being the usual homer making baseless statements.

1. New punter after Korsak graduated. Huge question mark. Discuss why you think this area will be improved with a brand new punter we have never seen before.

2. New FG kicker with little/no game experience. What is your basis to state FG kicking will be improved?

3. Cruickshank, a dynamic returner is gone. To my knowledge, we don't know who will be returning kicks/punts, and not sure anyone on the team has had significant kick/punt return experience. Why do you think kick/punt returns will be improved?

You don’t need basis because this isn’t a court room. This is a messageboard where we speculate about the upcoming season.

  • Jai Patel has won the job, and should be a huge improvement over Mcatamney’s 12 of 18 FG performance. IMO, best kicker since Judge Ito. His efforts alone will win us a few games
  • There will be some dropoff at Punter and kick returner but so what. We won 4 games with Cruickshank and Korsak. We will win more games without them

Stop it already. Your act is tired. Nobody said anything about a court room.
I have a lot of confidence in Greg coaching the special teams unit, but there are questions marks in every facet of the game. You just admitted that, yet you posted above that you thought special teams will be improved.

Best kicker since Ito? Is this like your proclamations on Sheppard and Surace, who hasn't even signed yet? Effort does not win games. Effort AND execution win games.

Now you moved the goalposts again and made it about winning games. We are talking about special teams.

I checked with my lawyer. And the mirror said this is not a rutgersal thread, so no pledge violation has been committed. How's that for doublespeak? 😉 I will endeavor to be better. But the ST pronouncement was so glaringly bad, I ripped off my self-imposed restraints.

And as an aside, I'm still wondering why Valentino Ambrosio was allowed to walk away, or was he shown the door?

GS said he spends a lot more time raising NIL money
And if he is succeeding then that's great. The world has changed... for those teams that haven't been cheating with brown-bag money all this time... NIL cash can bring you the Jimmys and Joes that can trump the Xs and Os...

There are so many businesses in New Jersey that may directly or indirectly benefit from having great sports programs at Rutgers... now, for a relatively small investment from each of them.. they can BUY great sports programs for Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.. LEGALLY.

We need coaches and an AD and a University President and even player personalities that can help bring that about.

You’re treating this like a court room when you ask for basis. Basis will only come when the games are played.

I’m allowed to believe that special teams overall will be improved and you are free to disagree. 12/18 Field Goals is very poor. A good solid kicker will be the difference in our ability to win games, and offset any impact from losing Korsak or Cruickshank.

We play to win the game. Otherwise, we’re wasting our time.

Horrible mistake by the staff with Ambrosio. Mcitasney lacks leg strength and has had issue with accuracy. My opinion is ambrosio was not on scholarship and tested the waters.

The second point is irrelevant. We may win more games this year, but that has but that has nothing to do with the special teams being better this year.

Good for him. Wound up at a team ranked #9.
I've been beaten up on these forums over my Cole Snyder posts. I get why he left, but not sure if the decision to cast him aside, leaving RU with Noah, Simon and Gavin as our only scholarship QBs. Regardless of those who will debate and denigrate his MAC stats, we could have used an extra QB last year.

Back to Ambrosio- I was on a long, steep mountain bike ride in Arizona during this game, on a snow-covered road. I remember tracking this game while riding, and nearly went off the road when I saw he kicked the winning FG.

That's 1/3 of the equation Al.
I'll shift from the court room to basic math and rock and roll. Meat Loaf sang 2 out of 3 ain't bad. But 1 out of 3 sucks.

If Schiano was smart (I think he believes he's more stubborn), he'd never step foot on the offensive side of the field. He's proven over a long period of time he has little idea of what modern football looks like.

Great leaders understand they don't know everything. Hire well and let them go.

Yea can't blame either of them for moving on. Cole was an odd take from the get go. Didn't jump off the page with measurables or stats. Thought from the get go that he was a MAC level player. Glad it has worked out for him.
I had higher hopes for Evan. Bro in laws best friend is in the Lancaster area (played and coached at UMD) and loved the kid and talked him up to me for years. This is where the lack of an offensive coaching staff crippled development for many players on that side of the ball.

That NJ.com article that I did not, cannot, will not, don't want to read on lack of QB development is not wrong. It's been a black hole since Friedgen left. Hope KC changes that.

Sad thing is it was not just lack of QB development and coaching. The most experienced coaches on that side of the ball were high school coaches. Let that sink in....

That is why no one takes Al seriously as a poster. Constantly moving the goalposts when someone calls him out on his nonsensical position.
