Losing out on Rumph definitely hurts. I've wondered why Mullen didn't make the reciever position more of a priority in last year's recruiting class?? He must have seen the need coming up. We signed only one true wide reciever last year!! WTF??
Yes. We would have had 4 HS receivers that were 6'3-6'4 had De'Andre Woods stayed committed. The only injured receiver I'm aware of is the JUCO athlete DeVante Scott from Co-Lin...which wasn't listed in his post...
Rumph isn't our only option out of the JUCO ranks, he is just the most likely candidate...We are still chasing a few others that we may/may not have a chance at, but losing Rumph will definitely hurt...
The guys I listed are elite talents that are absolute immediate contributors on the same level or arguably better than Rumph.
We can take almost any guy from USM at any point we want. The fact that he's committed there as a JUCO this early basically guarantees that he isn't very good and had very limited options. 6'4 doesn't mean crap if it can't play in the SEC. Plus the guy you are talking about is listed as a tight end with 1 offer, barely a 3*, with 27 receiving yards this whole year. I'd rather take my chances with Morrow and save the scholarship before it comes down to taking that kind of project out of JUCO...
What hasn't been mentioned is how well our wide receivers progressed in the first TWO WEEKS with Brewster compared to their first 3 years on campus.
We will have little experience at receiver but I trust Brewster and the talent level of these guys coming in.
Scott tore his ACL pretty early in the season, but by August I expect him to be 95-100% and according to the coaches and "scouts" there won't be a big drop off between him and Bumphis. Not specifically production, but talent. I think Russell, Johnson, Johnson, and Morrow step up next season.

I'm still not sure if that's because of Brewster or because of Russell. Let's be real... a lot of the lack of production for our receivers had a lot do with Relf too.
Right there with you on that one. Apparently we put WAY too many eggs in the Jason Croom basket...
That's why I said 2 weeks into his time here. The first 2 games, the receivers were bad. Simply bad. Dropped balls and lack of separation a-plenty.
This guy has produced and coached up some of the best in the NFL. Mirando and Hud were decent at best. It's no coincidence our receivers all of a sudden, BOOM, are good.
