Next year will be Mullen's 5th year

Not no but hell no.

Next year will be tough and you better go ahead and prepare for it. I think 6-6 or 7-5 is the best we can do with our schedule. We will play 3 SEC teams with new head coaches and a new team energy, 2 of those are Auburn and Arkansas and they will be on the road. Two of our home games are LSU and Bama. At this point we still have to expect two losses. We play an explosive OK St team next year. Add TAMU, SC and OM to that equation and you have the makings of probably the most difficult schedules in the country.

That's why Mullen needs to make the changes he needs to make right now. What we did this year will lose us 6 or 7 games next year. That can't happen. If we don't start playing a different brand of football, then maybe change should be made. But not next year. We can all talk about year 5 this and year 5 that, but we still aren't in the top of the SEC and we shouldn't have expected to be there by now because we don't have the tools necessary to make a quick turnaround. This was a 7 year rebuild job for me and I thought we should consistently be an 8-10 win team every year by then.

We don't have the money and the name to do it quickly. We were going have to fight through some ups downs in the first 7 years. But I think by then if Mullen is still giving us 6 regular season wins then things may need to change. But with the strength of the SEC and us not knowing who our future East opponents will be, it's pretty tough to say Mullen should go. We have a **** schedule next year and I believe our win loss record will reflect that.

I'm not talking wins and losses, I'm talking about a better product on the field. You can have abetter team, yet not reflect it in the win column.

There's four jobs in the SEC opening up, and I could see Mullen jumping to one..

I could see Mullen going to Tennessee (fantastic facilities and unlimited athletic budget). Also, the Minnesota job might be opening up again.

I could see Mullen taking the Urban Meyer Route, and going to a far less competitive conference with not near as psycho fans as the SEC. If this happens, I hope Strickland has Hudspeth on speed dial.

Mutt, he might go to a lesser conference, but that kind of attitude is what is being reflected on the field of play

What I see in Mullen is a guy that gives effort until the momentum swings toward the other team. I noticed it with 6 min left in the LSU game last year and multiple games since.
His behavior has rubbed off on the players intensity. The rebel secondary even said that once we got down by two scores, our routes and blocking became sloppy. I think that sums up the whole staff's performance.
The way to get the most out of Mullen is to tighten his leash and not keep adding a year to his contract. Make him work with a sense of urgency like he did the first two years.
Lastly, Mullen's play calls inside the red zone at critical times in the game, have a childish, x-box flair to them. He should have grown out of that years ago.

I agree with both of these statements, the last one is the reason for the first one. He coaches high school football

You need to take a damn vallium. Fire Mullen a year removed from 3 straight winning seasons? We lost to OM, we can't expect to beat them every single year.

The only reason we have a winning season is because we played a division 2 schedule. If we had TSUN's schedule we would be 5 and 7.

If Mullen is fired after next year...

..I am going to sit back & enjoy watching all you experts use this messageboard to lie about Mullen's replacement for 6 months, then laugh my *** off when MSU ends up hiring the offensive coordinator for Kent State as MSU's next head coach. If you want to know what MSU football will be like the first year after Mullen is fired, focus your gaze towards Hattiesburg.

Mullen won every game he was favored to win this year

We have got to get better linemen and win a few we aren't favored to win. If you feel that a New Year's Day bowl and 8 wins is a failure that's on you.

Freeze lost to Vandy. Freeze cost them the A and M game too.

When Mullen has a loaded team and loses a few he is favored to win then let's talk.

Vandy would beat us. Great he was favored to win against the likes of Troy, and South alabama. We caught Auburn, UT, and Arky on down years. Very impressive

Dude take a Prozac. The sun has come up. You sound like you are in your fifth stage of depression.

It's an average year and we are going to a New Year's Day bowl. Let that sink in. He has won all his bowls. Objective outsiders without a dog in the hunt consistently say Mullen has done more at MSU than any other coach would and other schools have him on their coaching list.

i hate losing as much as the next guy but damn dude change your rag out.

THIS...Damn, some of you people are really pitiful. However, the average life of a coach at MSU is 6 years....and this is year 4...

What about Illinois? Playing Meyer every year could be intriguing. Virginia Tech? Beamer may retire at the end of the year. I dont see him jumping ship to a SEC team that will leave a bad taste in our mouths for years.

No, and it's not even close. You think the AD and President have even had this thought cross their mind? Hell no they haven't. They aren't rediculous fans who feel like they have some sort of entitlement to win 10 games a year and beat top 25 teams every week. We are selling out games, going to bowls, having more fan engagement than ever, marketing like never before, investing millions in facilities, etc. From the standpoint of running this like a business and being objective, which is how the administration looks at it, the Mullen era has been a no doubt success. He isn't leaving anytime soon unless it is by his choice.

Hudspeth's team outplayed the mighty Florida Gators this year, and should have beaten them. What's more, and is most important to us, he is a top notch recruiter.
