I like the new 80 shot clock, but I still don't like the way teams can hold onto the ball in the last 3-5 minutes of a game. the shot clock should be half that time or 40 seconds. This loss will come down to the fact that we can't win GD faceoffs and our D is very suspect.

You can’t win when you are constantly chasing your opponent. Hopkins Fogo is from NJ. He should be ours

Last 2 possessions with the ball were flat-out awful. Sound win this game easily if we showed up prior to the middle of the 3rd. What a waste.

None of this was fun or enjoyable. All good, we’ll get the doors blown off by Maryland next week

Well, Brecht if we don't make it to the B1G tournament in our OWN house, then I think there should be questions about your job pal.
Not gonna lie. Sorta feel the same way. Mediocrity is unacceptable. No reason why PSU can be as good as they are and we CANT WIN A DAMN FACEOFF. Three freaking years. Three!!!!!!!

I couldn't agree more. I am so SICK and TIRED of this mediocrity BS in both the revenue and non-revenue sports. Enough of this already! Let's get coaches in here hungry for wins and PAY THEM what they're worth. So far I have been very unimpressed with Brecht. Year after year he gets us to the precipice of the tourney only to fail. The fact that he can't even find a FO guy and we lose out on the NJ kid to Hopkins at FO is a major fail by Brecht. Get it done, or Hobbs, fire his ***!

Guys. Talk of firing the Coach is way over the top. We are not mediocre. We should have been in it last few years except for ACC bias. We can play with anyone, we have the talent. We just beat the No. 4 team in country and honestly should have won this but for horrible faceoffs. Dont have the answer but we would be fortunate to have all our sports as good as Mens lax.

Here’s the answer: Come out ready to play in a must win conference game. Don’t sleepwalk to the first 35 minutes. That, once again, is on the coach. Again, no way he should be fired or even remotely close to that, fully has my support, but com’on.

At this point I do not trust this team to be anyone other than Michigan. That being said Let’s hope that Ohio State loses to Penn State, Johns Hopkins, and Maryland, so if we both go 2-3 in conference play we get into the conference tourney over them.

That is one path, or we beat Maryland at home. Im still going and believing we can win.

Wondering if we should just concede the FO and put a long pole in to beat the hell out of whoever is in there. At some point they may start fearing for their life.

Today was 3 issues.

1) Slow start
2) poor shooting, especially at the start. This led, in part, to 1.
3) As always, faceoffs. We played sooo much D. Our team can score. We need to ball though.

On the plus side, the kids showed a lot of heart today. We were hobbled a bit, didn’t have our best stuff, but kept fighting. I like that part.

On a side note, F the refs, Hopkins clock operators, and Quint Kessinich.

Another huge opportunity next week. We need to win 2 out of 3. @ Penn St will be the most unlikely so next week, at home, would be huge.

Based on reading Lacrosse threads I haven't seen in depth discussion as to the difficulty in recruiting players for face offs. Its a obvious problem area that hasn't been solved and failure to do so clearly impacts the results of games.

The announcers made a good point in the 4th about how the 2 “wings” - I guess - on the FO’s are the ones really hurting us? That they should be getting into the scum instead of breaking off so early?

Thoughts?

How hard is it to find a face off guy that could at least get it to 40/60 or dare we dream 50/50? I just can’t believe for 3 seasons something as simple as going 50% on face offs has cost us the tournament 3 years. It’s inexcusable.
He’s done a great job resurrecting this program but this faceoff deficit has to be the most maddening frustrating thing I ve seen in rutgers sports in a long time.

The wings didn’t play well today. Certainly not as well as last week.

We also were getting fast breaked clean off the draw not allowing a scrum. We tried everything. Different guys. Poles. It’s just what it is.

Not getting easier. Maryland has two really good guys

The fast breaks off the face offs were unacceptable. Have t seen that in awhile against Ru. It’s almost as if we were missing players on the field

Those were baffling.... It was as if were not prepared to deal with that situation and no ability to correct it as it kept happening all the way to the end of the game.

They have recruited FOGO's they just have not been able to close. The guy Prouty from JHU is a NJ guy, as I said before there are several FOGO's that they were in with but just could not close the deal. including the FOGO from Hofstra that transferred to UPenn. Ott is good but i think they need to find a transfer kid as well. The Freshman from St. Joe's is a NJ kid who may want to step up in competition. I do not know if we have a 2019 FOGO locked in and we lost our true FOGO as he switched his committment to Syracuse.

Soo at the school I coach at we are a little obsessed with face off's and wing play and we teach and drill it most days. What the announcer's said was a really good point and it happened at a pivotal period in the game. I believe that the FOGO for JHU twistered out and then looked up we should have had 1 pole in the scrum and one pole cutting the break we did not, we were poorly positioned in that instance. Prouty makes a forward exit and beats the pole to the box forcing the slide and Marr makes us pay, Game over. The other point that needs to be made is that if they get that forward exit they are breaking against a defense that includes a short stick and unless they have been repping that out that is a tough trick against an attack as good as JHU's
We also do something where we play our one wing as close to our defensive box as possible and then run him to the point while our point guy attacks the faceoff guy. we are trying to make him make really fast decisions with the ball.
BTW, just so you know we went 14 for 14 yesterday at the face off X.

Who was the kid who flipped?

I think it’s pretty safe to say that Brian will be scouring the transfer market hard.

Jack Savage he is from Oregon. He has very good film. The best FOGO in NJ this year is going to OSU. BB may need to overpay for a really good FOGO. ( in terms of giving him more of a scholarship)

Jesus REALLY?? SMDH
It is still hard to recruit NJ kids to go to Rutgers. BB is putting in the work but he has to get kids who want to come. That is why I think he needs to go to LI more and invest more time and energy there. Hopefully, having the staff guys he has now on the recruiting trail will help.
