The poll starts with No. 1 and ends with No. 12. It includes only SEC teams. The team next to the Number 1 is the team he believes is the best team in the SEC (Florida). The team beside the Number 2 (Georgia) is the team he believes is the 2nd best team in the league, and so on down to the team next to the Number 12 (Vanderbilt), who he believes is the worst team in the league. I hope that clears up any issues you were have with following his power rankings.

i'd go with:

5. SC
6. Tenn
7. Bama
8. Mississippi
9. State

other than that, he looks to be dead on. Mississippi gets the nod due to us playing in Oxford. We couldnt beat Orger-moron there, we damn sure wont beat Nutt there

And C34, why do you and the Ole Miss Rebelettes automatically assume that Nutts is going to continue to dominate MSU? It's not like he has a magical wand and waves it everytime he gets ready to play us. Just because he has left Arkansas doesn't mean he will carry his luck over to red town.

The Egg Bowl is ALWAYS a toss-up. Just like any other rivalry game.

Just giving Croomp a hard time. He's the one that said he was having a hard time following the poll. I was hoping to get a little bit more out of him, like saying what he didn't agree with and why, etc.

It's one guy's opinion. His is as good as the rest of them out there. Nothing truly earth shattering. Going along with Coach, I think you can take a lot of the teams in the middle of his poll and jumble them up, and you'd have as good of a shot at being right as anyone. I feel like the top 4 in his poll are about what you've seen from everyone. The bottom 3 are about what you've seen from everyone. 5-9 is really a toss up all the way around, at least if you're trying to compare pre-season prognostications.

I'll go over this again, if no. 11 on this list is Arkansas, isn't that where Nutt came from? If the program he left is that bad.....What would make anyone believe he will be better for Mississippi? He will have less resources, less to work with in facilities, more competition for recruits, and a program with players who have documented as not being able to read. Truly, will someone answer this question? Where is the assumption that he is going to bring back the pre-segregation days of football coming from?

I'm pretty sure the poll indicates who will have a better year, not who will win an individual matchup between the two teams.

You're evaluating his entire tenure at Arkansas based on their preseason ranking the year after he left? You really think that's the best way to evaluate a coach's ability and his tenure at a school?

If Felix Jones and Darren McFadden were still there, Ark would probably be around number 4,5, or 6 in this guy's rankings.

but Nutt is a very good coach. I hate like hell he is in Oxford now. He is going to win football games there. He didnt win at UPig with luck, he flat out does a good job.

As far as this season, I think they are better than we are on the OL and DL. Throw that in that we play at their place, and they will probably win the game. They had the biggest idiot to be a head coach on the college level in a long time, yet we couldnt beat him there. How many times have we won in Oxford the last 20 years or so its been back on campus? The odds arent in our favor

Seriously why do you have to keep bringing up the Powe thing. That's just a flame thrown in there to be an *******. How does he have less resources and less to work with in facilities? You say Ark is picked to finish 11th so you judge Nutt to be no good. What about the years that he took them to Atlanta and New Years day bowls? Those don't count for anything because Arkansas, a team he no longer coaches for is picked 11th? State has been picked to finish 11th the last three years so why does anyone believe that Croom can coach a lick? Even after his greatest success they've got you picked 9th. What does that tell you about Croom?

The only one point game was in 1998 and State won that one. In fact, Nutt beat your two best teams in recent history in 1999 and 2000. Now, he may not be the best coach around, but if State hired a coach that was 9-1 against Ole Miss, it'd worry me.

Is it which is the more powerful team or what order the teams will finish in the SEC? The writer states that Georgia would have the number one spot if they had Florida's schedule. Wouldn't that mean Georgia is the more powerful team? Or is putting 'power' in front of 'rankings' simply creating a BS term for some guy's opinion?

Croom has less to work with in terms of facilities and resources than does OM. Does that mean Croom can't succeed at MSU?

It was also documented by his mother that he couldn't read. Is that not also factual? Cue bruiser.

This is your opinion, and your opinions are shown daily on this board to be completely backwards.

it's for the most part pretty mediocre. 3 years out of 10 with winning SEC records. 2 overall losing seasons. For the most part, he's been consistently average there. And he'll face more challenges at Mississippi than he did at Arkansas.

This was not a topic on Croom's ability, it was about some guys opinion on this seasons teams. And yes, I do evaluate him on his overall record. It was solid but not great. And again, that was based on having everything at his disposal. All the resources, all the facilities, no other instate rival. And he was a consitenet 7-5, 8-4 team. That would translate into a solid 5-7 , 6-6 at oxford where he has budget issues, facilities which are good compaired to other college programs but with us, on the bottom of the SEC....You didn't just hire Pete Carroll, or one of his assistants, oops....You hired a caoch who was slightly above .500 in conferance play to come to a program with less of everything and seem to be bent on the idea that an SEC title is just around the corner.....

I wasn't trying to imply that I thought he was a world beater at Arkansas, but to evaluate him based on their preseason expectations this year is moronic.

I think the jury is still out on Nutt. I don't really know if it's easy or hard to win at Arkansas. So, I think a lot will be told by how well Nutt does at Ole Miss and what kind of program Arkansas has going forward.

We probably have the same number of fans that believe Nutt will take us to national prominence as you have fans that believe Croom will take you to national prominence. In other words, there are very few of our fans with those visions. Most of us believe however that he'll be able to make us respectable, take us to bowls at least every other year, and possibly have a year on rare occasion where we sneak up and compete with the best in the SEC. I don't think those are outrageous expectations.

Edited to add: I think that if you coach for 10 years at one of the non-Big 6 SEC schools, and you come out with a conference record at or above .500, you've done a pretty good job. Put it this way, I don't think Arkansas will have many coaches win as much as he did in the SEC. Their program is just not quite that status to be able to win much more than he did. We're just hoping he can come in and do about as much with our program as is possible given our resources. If he can stay at Ole Miss 10 years and come out with a .500 SEC record, I'll be pleased.

If you are going to make fun of illiteracy, you should probably use proper grammar in your critical sentence. Let me fix it for you:

He will have fewer resources, poorer facilities, more competition for recruits, and a program with players who have been documented as unable to read.

Yes, spelling grammar smack is nearly always lame; and, yes, the entire Powe situation is an embarrassment. However, criticizing poor reading skills with sentences utilizing poor grammar and lacking essential elements of verb tense is even more personally embarrassing.

Edit: No, I do not think Ole Miss will finish 7th in the SEC.

The only one point game was in 1998 and State won that one. In fact, Nutt beat your two best teams in recent history in 1999 and 2000. Now, he may not be the best coach around, but if State hired a coach that was 9-1 against Ole Miss, it'd worry me.

Nutt will be coaching our rival and will no longer be a game between Alabame and Ole Miss, so we will see if he is as successful at Ole Miss at beating State as he was at Arkansas.

Tommy Tuberville, only went .500 versus State, I'm not too worried about your coach's record at another university.

I never stated that I could read either, but I did stay at a holliday inn express last night and had no pillow or alarm clock. So my grammer is suffering today....

How is it true when it has been documented by a Clarion Ledger writer that he can in fact read. It is factual.
It was also documented by his mother that he couldn't read. Is that not also factual? Cue bruiser.

Croom has less to work with in terms of facilities and resources than does OM.
This is your opinion, and your opinions are shown daily on this board to be completely backwards.

It was documented that his mother said that. It was further documented (not just with words as in Powe saying that he can read, he actually read from a newspaper to this writer) that what she said was in fact not true. Which do you believe. Something his mother said or something that he actually did in real life? Does this help? I mean Jesus H Christ try to let it go.

OM has a larger stadium. OM has a new state of the art IPF weight room, training room, lounge etc. OM has a brand new academic center. These are not opinions. These are facts. It is also a fact that MSU does not havethese things. So let me know when I'm giving an opinion?

Yes, you have the larger stadium. State also has a state of the art IPF, weight room, training room, and lounge. State's academic center is currently under construction. Any other facts you want to give us?

Look at our record to previous to Nutt. Would you want Danny Ford? For whatever reason, we just don't get up for that game.

But just for giggles.......1999, we were robbed by the officials. Flags on every big play we had. 2000, Nutt was lucky in that the weather was sloppy enough for us to miss a chip shot FG to win the game. 2001, Matt Jones, Matt Jones....ripped off a 80 yard run on a busted play very late in the game to give them the go ahead points. From 02-05, we were to bad to compete. Arkansas was to good in 06, 07.

Bottom line, Nutt is a better coach than Orgeron. However, what he did at Arkansas will not equal what he will do at OM.

I understand that MSU fans tend to get a bit wooly on this site.....but it is a MSU message board. I dont understand why the naffoomers get so surprised to see that posters make favorable statements about MSU here. I for one could care less what they talk about over at naffoom (i imagine it involves lots of overblown praise of Snead/Nutt). It all comes down to this: Ole Miss and STATE will both be doing very well to win 6-7 games this year. And in order to do so one will have to beat the other. Because the game is in Oxford, the edge goes to them. However, i will say that it is easier to see a scenario where STATE is bowling despite losing that game than it is to see Ole Miss bowling with a loss to STATE.

Not really, I've seen quite a few publications pick Florida to win the East and to win the SEC outright. It's rare that you see a team that's pre-season No. 1 in the polls that isn't even picked to win its division in many publications, but a lot of people think that Florida and Georgia are pretty even this year. Both are being considered legit national title contenders. Therefore, I don't necessarily think picking Florida over the No. 1 team in the Coaches' poll discredits him at all.
