Non-PSU Recruiting

An offer was made. an offer was refused. Bassett family acting like OSU and PSU are actively recruiting them is merely to continue a facade and drive up the price.
My understanding:

Offer made with a window to accept after some initial hesitation from coaches due to how the first recruitment was handled
Offer accepted (hence why I posted what I did earlier) by the Bassetts
Acceptance was reneged and family wanted to go back to table
Offer was deemed final by coaches
All communication ceased
Your last statement is as accurate as can be

lolololol.

It wasn't a "turn off" - they wanted Iowa/HWC to pay for the travel costs - despite the fact that he was getting plenty from his NIL deal.
Nebraska is willing to tango with the Bassetts from that standpoint and other things as it relates to the RTC.

Have a contact with Bishop Mc Cort who I met when we both were at a Wrestling practice. He concurs with this well worded summary. His direct comment to me if it were only up to Bo he would have committed to us.

Zero. That site is like the Zach Seyko of Facebook. If they're right, Broken Clock Theory proven.

I've thought Nebraska was the most likely destination for a while. With that post, I may need to reconsider.
That account is the Penn State equivalent of the awful Sammy Brooks’ Mullet account run by some Iowa dork. Both are hypersensitive and prone to awful takes

I offered my uninformed opinion on this situation some time ago and suggested that Dad was driving this bus and had intertwined his best interests with his kids best interest. I further speculated that the wrestlers in question will most likely end up elsewhere. As I continue to think about this, I can't help it but reflect on so many past recruits stating that they couldn't imagine being anywhere else. I'm also now thinking that Cael has to have real reservations about having this family being part of the PSU family. It's almost like saying, "I want to come to PSU if you can give me more than anyone else".

I think Miller is coming to penn st, shed his brother and do what is best for himself does not seem like a big drama guy.

He ain’t.
Would Melvin even be allowed to come to
PSU if he wanted to? The dad strikes me as a guy that would have a hard time letting his adopted son go to the best training in the world while his first born and family star takes a step down to be the “face of a the program”. It’s not right but I could see that being a thing

I heard the dad is going to start an apparel company called Big Baller Brand and make Bo wear their wrestling shoes. Hopefully, the shoes won’t cause any injuries! 😀

Let's suppose that's true.

In which case, Miller would be able to assert his own decision 1 year later thanks to the portal, the scholarship level he would command, and NIL.

I have no reason to doubt your summary, and assuming it's accurate:

PSU was more than accommodating, and given the history and progression, they handled it perfectly IMO.

Sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for. There is more than a pattern developing here, and I suspect 4-5 years of more of the same drama, uncertainty, or 'me first', would wear quite thin on everyone involved.

It takes more than talent to be a good fit, just ask Nick, and I for one didn't want to experience that soap opera again as a fan. To be honest I am still so disappointed and regretful that we won't see Zach Ryder's career play out here.

Above all Cael wants kids who want to be here, and who can argue with that? It's unclear if Bo really wants to be anywhere that badly, with one foot in and one foot out of a number of programs. Fickle or avoidant come to mind - look it up!

Kids today, and for the foreseeable future, are simply going to be more likely to suffer from FOMO and FOBO. I suggest it's best to just get oneself accustomed to the new norm. There's no need to impugn any particular youth over another. Thanks social media!

Good for Robie. He’s come in 2nd for some very big recruits. Nice to see him land a couple.
VT definitely taking a step up with these. Its good to see other programs get top talent. They put together a deal to do it - $$? job for dad?promises for lil bro? other BMc wrestlers?

VT makes sense especially if PSU was not an option. What boxes did VA-tech tick that Penn State did not?

Face of a program and the NIL offer come to mind. I’m sure someone out there knows the background on why they opted to go out of State. I’m more curious than I am upset about it.

Good outcome for all involved. Wish them best of luck. Also allows Keegan to go somewhere he can most likely make starting lineup in a few years (I think could have played a bigger factor in PSU and Okie St not being the destination). They seem very close and think all 3 want to stay together. Glad it’s over.

After last year's Iowa commitment debacle, where Bassett suddenly changed his school list and timeline, then even more suddenly committed ahead of the new timeline, it's apparent that the family is prioritizing offers.

PSU gave both Bassett and Miller strong offers. The family decided in each instance to leverage that for better offers elsewhere. Cael isn't getting played like that -- if you don't really want to come here, then he'll focus on guys who do. Word was that both PSU and OKST were on the final 4 list for appearances only.

So it really came down to VT vs Nebraska. If the offers are comparable, then offseason training at Blacksburg is far easier on the family than Lincoln. (Note that part of the Iowa flap was the family demanding Iowa pay for their travel expenses -- which is prohibited by USA Wrestling/RTC rules.)

Finding a home for Keegan also makes sense here. He's a good prospect but not at the same level as Bo + Miller, and would be less of a sure thing to start at PSU or OKST.
