North Davidson coach resigns
Removed comment? What did the comment say? Freedom of speech. We have been discussing this in the MPC threads for the last week and a half, and as I said there, the wording of that announcement was way too generous. The comment at the end of that Journal article states what has been circulating in the community here. I don't think it's a coincidence that he is resigning just after that came out.
ETA - I now see that the Journal has removed the comment.

I always knew there had to be something when a school has an NFL player from their school and he holds camp at another down the road with his former coach and not his former school, even after that coach has moved on to another school.I still think about Mark Holcomb whom I played for. Total class, loved all of his kids, always tried to bring out the best in all of us. And this is what we ended up after him. Shameful. I know blackknightnut played for him for two years.
I still can’t believe he’s gonna be teaching the rest of the year. Boy that’s awkward.
Shy is from Midway. No surprise he does things at Oak Grove and I don't blame himI always knew there had to be something when a school has an NFL player from their school and he holds camp at another down the road with his former coach and not his former school, even after that coach has moved on to another school.
It's also not a good situation for trying to bring in a good coach. Some candidates don't want an ex head coach with the maturity of a 3 year old in their school. Especially if several of his cronies are still on staff.it says in the article he will remain a PE teacher thats wild...not a good situation for the school
so what exactly did he do?? im missing parts of this storyIt's also not a good situation for trying to bring in a good coach. Some candidates don't want an ex head coach with the maturity of a 3 year old in their school. Especially if several of his cronies are still on staff.
To be as politically correct as I can, from my understanding he "allegedly" laid his hands on a player. I am not a fan but I wont speak any more than this from just what I have "heard". There is a thread on The Lexington Dispatch on Facebook.so what exactly did he do?? im missing parts of this story
Very common practice everywhere. The two jobs are not tied together. Not defending anything that has supposedly happened here.whats crazy to me is it was bad enough to lose your coaching job but not teaching job? I think this is a double standard
byerly was the absolute best. He taught us more about guts and heart than any coach I ever had. Only had him for one year but I’ll never forget him. A lot of life lessons from him.I never played for Flynn. I played for Holcomb for three years and Fleming for one. Those two wouldn't have done this and would not have let their assistants do this.
I got along with Flynn when I met him. I liked him. I also saw the head coaching job change him into a completely different person than the guy I got along with. The ego is a crazy thing for some people and it changes you into a different person when you get a bit of power in some cases...
When I played we had coaches that called us pus*** for being out injured. Even after the doctor and JV head coach Byerly refused to let them play because they wanted them to heal up. I never saw anyone get physically assaulted by a coach but there were certainly those on staff who didn't deserve their spots just like some still on the staff don't deserve their spot. From a performance standpoint and also a social standpoint when you have thousands of people watching you act like a clown.
This goes all the way back to over a decade ago, after I graduated. Certain things have been swept under the rug for a long time. Not just regarding players but also students and especially girls...
A few years ago one of our coaches was reprimanded by the county for acting like a clown. The very next week he acted like a clown again. Nothing happened. It was swept under the rug.
This whole situation is sad. It is a tragedy. And the most tragic thing is that North and DCS are more than willing to save their reputation by sweeping thing after thing under the rug when everyone and their momma knows the whole story at this point. Pathetic...
No. I was referring to the WS Journal, not on here.Freedom of speech doesn't apply to a privately owned website, and I respect Deana's wish to limit undocumented accusations.
I don't have Facebook, but I understand that there is a very lively discussion about this topic on the Lexington Dispatch Facebook page where the same guidelines might not apply.
I have always said the same thing. I did not grow up in Davidson county but I raised my kids here. Had all 3 kids play sports throughout their careers with 2 different DC schools and saw the "good ol boy" mentality played out WAY too many times. I have my favorite now but have already seen changes since my kids graduated and still follow them but not as much as I used to.Davidson County Schools struggle with the “good ol boy” mentality. This includes all the HS in the county (ND, CD, ED, SD, WD, OG and Ledford). I attended a HS in Davidson County and it doesn’t seem that much has changed (I no longer live in Davidson Co).
Obviously, all schools/school systems have their own issues/concerns, but it might not hurt DCS to do some self reflection and take hires outside of Davidson County.
If you are referring to what I think you are referring to, we don’t know that for SURE. I heard some stuff but it mostly felt like high school guys making stuff up with one another. Now if it is true and I don’t know one way or another…The truth. Since 2008....
