Well, Asheville has been a great 3A team over the years but seems to have fallen on hard times... They haven't won a game so far, not sure if the competition was stiff or what... North is at home, they have a LONG bus ride to get here. I'll go ahead and predict an even longer bus ride back. Good luck to both teams, looking forward to Friday already.

Another once strong program that seems to fallen on hard times. Seems to usually revolve around long time coaches moving on or retiring.

I expect ND to win, and then move into a conference schedule with very few challenges. You never know what may happen, but they really shouldn't lose another regular season game.

Lack of focus may be the biggest obstacle facing them. I'm just worried that they won't be battle ready when they hit tough competition in the middle rounds of the playoffs.

Well, Ledford is a rivalry. They should have our full attention. East Davidson has experience and should not be overlooked but could be. Lexington beat Walkertown but does that really mean anything? We'll find out with North Rowan this week... Thomasville continues to sink further and further but are still athletic. Salisbury is dangerous, don't overlook them. Anybody else? I suppose South Rowan, even though they don't seem to be doing well. Not concerned about West or Central at all...

I believe Flynn can and will keep their attention. I also agree that we should not lose another game during the regular season (not trying to be arrogant, just saying).

There are plenty of things that need to improve between now and the playoffs, special teams for example has a lot of room for improvement. If we can improve on some of those areas on Offense that have already. Even mentioned, we can go deep into the West region. To that point, does anyone know if Shelby is projected as a 2A or 2AA? I could see North, Shelby, South Point, Hibriten making the semis in the West.

Shelby should go small. Not sure about Hendersonville and Mtn. Heritage but Hibriten and South point will both go big.

How many students enrolled at ND this year?

Good question, maybe someone else can answer... I do know our Jr and Sr classes are still 4A-3A in size, but the sophomores and freshmen are a comfortable 2A size. I would estimate 1100-1200 kids this year, just guessing.

Have you next seen tape on them. Compared to the last 3 seasons. This years team is much better and more disciplined. Not even close

No doubt, Lexington has gotten better. However, I will reserve judgement for when they actually play a good team with athletes like them... Such as this week, with North Rowan.

Blackknight, I know juniors and seniors stayed, but did sophomores have an option to stay or did they have to go to Oak Grove?

Freshmen and sophomores had to go to Oak Grove if in that district. They basically left no one any choices due to the difficulty of trying to staff a new school with an unpredictable number of students.

"a once proud program that has fallen on hard times". Thats probably the best way to put it

I am sure no disrespect was intended, hope none was taken...believe Me, there have been some dismal seasons us Black Knight Fans have endured, I am sure it was a realization of the angst involved. Hoping for a safe and competitive game Friday, ND just needs to keep improving qnd working every week, as said by Kicked Off previously on another thread! Safe travels for all The Cougars. Get there early and tailgate with everyone!

No offence taken. For the first 10-15 years of the 21st century, Asheville had one of the best records in the state of North Carolina. Since 2014 we have really struggled. I think a lot of the kids nowadays think they know it all and are more worried about how they look.

In 2002, Asheville began a run of 4 straight western regional championship appearances and an undefeated state championship team in 2005. Then went back to the 4th round in 2007. Since then we haven't been back to the 4th round.

This years team has a sophomore qb who is going to be good by the time he's a senior. He's a small guy, but has a good arm. We have the mountains most highly recruited player, a northwestern commit defensive end. Sometimes I question his effort but he can be a game changer. We have a good senior wr and a good rb. The problem with us is our depth. For some reason, even in our great years, we never had rosters of 50+ players. This years team has some talent, but is very thin. If we lose this week, we will drop to 0-3....I'm not sure that has ever happened. We have a good looking team, but through 2 games it seems like something is missing. Maybe it's our youth, but we should be able to give you guys all you want.

Don't be lulled into a false sense of security Asheville still has the studs, just a bad scheme.. If they make some minor changes they will be tough to handle. They need to go back to the system that got them all those Mac championships and State titles. Line up in the I and let that big line maul some people
Yea part of me agrees with that, we do have a good rb this year, but we don't have multiple ACC rbs in the backfield like we used to either.

Sounds interesting, maybe just need a few more games to get everyone playing together, and just simply getting more time on the field. We have some good players as well, 2 good rb's, a young qb, some dangerous wr's...defense seems to be improving drastically, a de that was just plain unstoppable last week, solid interior lineman, and lb's...secondary is probably the most inexperienced part of the d, other than 1 returning starter back there I believe. And almost forgot, would say we have the best kicker in the country, but that may just be my biased opinion! Although I would say there is at least one other on here that would agree with my last statement!;)

I don't care if Asheville is 0-2 or not, I have no doubt whatsoever that the Cougars will come into ND on Friday and fight tooth and nail with the Black Knights. Looking forward to a very competitive game!

AHS, thank you for understanding, I meant no disrespect at all. It just seems that when long time coaches leave that things don't always turnout to the best. I have nothing but respect for AHS.

Lexington is not a sleeper. they are a below average football team.

Specific to ND, their first day attendance was nearly 1400 kids. Needless to say, they by far have the largest enrollment in 2A, and even after Oak Grove gets a full class, North will still have 1200ish students. I live in the area and like North, but they better enjoy their time in 2A and take advantage of the misclassification because as many already knew, the projections that the school and county provided were off quite a bit. they will end up in 3A at the next realignment despite the hope that all the Davidson county schools would be 2a for a while. Ledford will also be on the cusp of 3a against at next enrollment as that side of Thomasville continues to move into Ledford district to get out of Thomasville City school system.

They should have honestly went into the 3A league from the beginning and been in the league with Mt Tabor and Parkland. Also 10 teams is way too many in a conference next year only two non-conference games.

I still argue the system for classification is flawed in the sense that the variance in the 4AA schools is pretty large. However, there is probably no such hung as a perfect solution and somebody is going to get slighted one way or the other.

Back to football.....anybody giving MT a chance against WF? I don't have a dog in the fight, but would love to see Tabor continue to surprise people. That and a Tabor win makes that loss in the ND record look like a bump in the road....

Of course Tabor has a chance against West Forsyth, it's a rivalry game lol. And Tabor always has talent to compete, even with all those big studs WF has. I'd be shocked to see a blowout either way...

I am pulling for the Spartans as well. I know pretty much nothing about West, so it's just a "who do you want to see win" question for me.

Would love to see the MD offense come alive this week (2 halves instead of just one). Maybe we break into the 30s this week.....

We need Josh Sig to carry over some confidence from that second half last week and get off to a good start. The game just needs to slow down for him a little.

Safe travels for all coming down from Asheville.
