1977-78 South Caldwell HS opens combining small community high schools Hudson and Granite Falls. The Spartans lost their first two games by seven and ten points against 4A teams. Next loss was in the 3A (before sub-dividing) state title game by six.
1972-72 Richmond County opens combining four community schools Rohanen, Elerbe, Rockingham, and Hamlet. First year they suffer their only loss by seven points in the 4A Eastern Regional semi-final to eventual state champion Sanford Central (now Lee County HS).
