Couple of schools that opened and had success their first year.

1977-78 South Caldwell HS opens combining small community high schools Hudson and Granite Falls. The Spartans lost their first two games by seven and ten points against 4A teams. Next loss was in the 3A (before sub-dividing) state title game by six.

1972-72 Richmond County opens combining four community schools Rohanen, Elerbe, Rockingham, and Hamlet. First year they suffer their only loss by seven points in the 4A Eastern Regional semi-final to eventual state champion Sanford Central (now Lee County HS).

East Chapel Hill won the 3A basketball title their first year in existence.

@Trench NS will miss Jackson more than you think, but NS does have a very very good back coming up and depending on who's the coach, I hope #34 and the young individual get the most out of the system. Albemarle played a decent game last year against WM, you could tell that Coaching played a "Huge" factor in the outcome, had nothing to due with the players....I was there. But I due agree, it will be a tough gig for whoever becomes head coach if this "Monopoly", getting NS athletes up to par with Albemarle will be one heck of a job!

Much respect to Coach Jackson at Anson. All He has to do at Anson is give Them Their Confidence back and All those Great Athletes will do is win. Coach Eddins probably did the same thing at West and Gaster at Albemarle

Remember Williamston HS? In 2001 they lost to Swain in the 1A title game (first year of sub-dividing). The next year Albemarle beat them in the big 1A game.

Williamston HS closed in 2009 and along with Jamesville became Riverside HS (Martin County). Roanoke HS and Bear Grass consolidated the same year to form South Creek HS.

Not interested. He has a much better deal at WM than he would at Anson. He may leave eventually but when he does it will be for a big time 3A or 4A job that offers good pay and a good teaching schedule. I do not think he would go to Richmond as I expect that is the next question.
