He was a Big 10 starter. If TJ wins out, I'm fine with that, but we need to bring in someone who can provide competition.
This is the way I look at also. I would think the staff would know more after January 2nd and see what other options they have with other QB’S opting out.

We’re basing Chiles after his game against us which was probably his worst game ever. I’d take him over Raiola. Maybe not Lateef but we haven’t seen enough of Lateef to say for sure. Chiles Highlights

Chiles was also pretty terrible against a terrible UCLA defense. He also got benched half-way through the season and didn't play the rest of the year.

Jonathon smiths system, is a very pro style, under center 12 personnel. It’s a lot of reading the defense pre snap and play action based

I can’t predict the future but maybe Chiles wasn’t a good fit for his system. Maybe the system broke him. Maybe chiles really does suck.

What I believe Chiles would thrive in is a power spread playbook that is simplistic run reads and 2 read play action. What we were running with DR would result in more
Of the same from Chiles, turnovers and deer in headlights. We need to make offense simple and have a QB and RBs that can house it. And play defense well enough to stop mediocre teams running the ball.
So far Chiles has proven to be a bad quarterback regardless of the system he is in. He got demoted this year at MSU. I think it is a lot of wishing and hoping thinking by coming to Lincoln, he will magically transform himself into the next coming of Patrick Mahomes.

We hopefully don’t need that type of QB. We need an explosive version of Iowas offense. Little room for turnovers, lots of running with a fast QB and two good RBs, and simple play action passes. Run heavy. Chiles would help and flourish in that type of offense. ASU made Sims look competent. Simplify the playbook, get good at being tough and get back to what made Nebraska special.

Raiola was making what 3-3.5mil? How do we justify paying Chiles 5mil?! No way!
Raiola’s total deal was supposedly around a million per year. The 3 million number was assuming he stayed for 3 years. At least that’s what a well informed booster of substance shared with me. 🤷

Nebraska, primarily Omaha, hosts several major Fortune 500 companies, with
Berkshire Hathaway, Union Pacific, and Kiewit Corp consistently making the list, alongside others like Mutual of Omaha, Werner Enterprises, Valmont Industries, and Green Plains, though their rankings fluctuate yearly, with many others like First National of Nebraska appearing in the broader Fortune 1000.

right then:

Berkshire Hathaway = oline
Union Pacific = dline
Kiewit Corp = qb
Werner Enterprises = rb
Valmont Industries = lb
Green plains = wr
First National = db
Everybody Else = special teams and 1st class stadium

Coach Rhule = salesman
I will be CEO = making sure correct investments are made, and nobody is being too liberal with other peoples money without the correct return on investments

there is no "I" in team...

Idk...But from what I've heard he seems to be one of the top guys we are targeting. I don't think you bring on on your top targets to be a backup.

Holla
Well I’ve listened to a retired NFL GM who said coaches always think they can be the one to fix a physically talented QB’s flaws. He said it rarely ever works. It worked last year for McConnell with the Vikings and Darnold during the regular season…until it didn’t in the post season. I would rather sign a guy who has shown he can do it at a lower level. Chiles was awful. The one thing I like is that we have Dana evaluating the options. IF Dana wants him, I would roll the dice on him. That said, I don’t believe he would win the job. I just think they feel that they HAVE to sign a body in the portal and he might be the best one willing to consider NU. 😕

Doctor in Lincoln who did work for the team told me that. Take it FWIW. I don’t have any first hand information on it other than Rhule has said we’re not going to guarantee incoming freshmen millions of dollars. IF we gave him 3M/year before he ever took a snap we deserve to lose every game.

Coaches are likely bringing in two portal additions. If one is Chiles, so be it. Let the three of them compete and best man win the job. First real QB competition in years. No more handouts.

Well Rhule lies about as much as you do. Dylan was offered $2 million/yr to come here, was flirting with leaving after his freshman season, so was upped to $3+ million/yr this past year.

I hope we have more options to pick from besides Chiles. I question he is the answer but I’m confident that Lateef will start the season next year.

For clarity, Nebraska offered Raiola over $1M to come here before he officially committed to Nebraska out of high school?

I heard he was making 3 million this year and took a 1.2 or 1.8 million cut for his injury.
the ncaa should work with the irs, so we have a clear picture what each team is paying for nil, per year.
so fans get a perspective on expectations or lack of.
plus one would want to take into account the cost of living in each place.
