They are completely different. In SEC football, you have to hire proven commodities. You can't hope someone pans out, you have to go find proven guys with a good track record, and we did that with Mullen and still got some of the same reaction on here as we did initially with Ray. And there is also a significantly less talent pool to draw from in terms of people associated with successful programs you want, so it's important to find those guys, especially if you want to keep up in SEC football.
In college basketball, there are over 320 D1 programs. People move around all the time, and who the hell can say just exactly who will be a good hire based on their pedigree? There is a much larger pool to draw from in terms of coaches who might be successful, and the SEC is nowhere near asstrongin basketball as it is in football, so you can make a hire like this that doesn't wow people initially if you think the guy is the righthire long term. Not to mention the fact our current situation has us with noPG, and over the course of the year we willhave lostat least 6 guys who were on scholarshipto transfer or draft/graduation. It was a ****** situation, and this is what we ended up with. Now we have to see if Stricklin knew what he was doing and see if Ray can turn it around.
