I've known that to be true for a while. I had players from Florida tell me similar. They all hear the stories, see the movies, and expect the worst. You actually get them to visit and they learn it's nothing like that. I don't think anyone can argue that Mississippi's national reputation doesn't hurt out of state recruiting.

He also said in the interview that once they get on campus they see it is nothing like what they have heard.

There have been several players that said they were worried about coming to this state until they got here and saw it isn't anything like they were told. If you don't think people outside of this state doesn't see anything put the racist past then you live in a very sheltered world.

which was a direct result of him recruiting to many bad apples and them leaving the program which left no Sr. leadership and no depth.

I had a Fraternity Brother from Chicago. He told me that as a Senior in High School he told all his friends he was going to attend MSU they got real concerned something bad might happen. So one night they had a sort of intervention and rented "Mississippi Burning" so they could let hin know what Mississippi was really like.

This was in the mid 90's.

Still a weak excuse, Alabama doesn't have a hard time getting kids to come there after Bobby Wallace's shenanigans in the 60's.

Why are you all so adamant about keeping your racist traditions?

That angry little man at the schoolhouse door thought it would be a good idea, and ran for President.

...But, somebody thought that it wasn't...

...But he didn't die...

That is why there are no good football teams in the South since we have to all field teams full of honkies.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about out of state kids coming to UM, not the state of Mississippi. How the hell does the state of Mississippi exclusively get the bad rap when it's stuck in the middle of an entire region associated with racism? I think it has more to do with people associating UM with confederate flags, Klan rallies, race riots, and recently the meaning behind the nickname "Ole Miss" getting out. Either way, I'm not sure why he would say that. From my vantage point, it hasn't seemed to really hurt the school on the recruiting front anyway.

OM has done way more to hurt the reputation of this state than anything else. When all your school's traditions are associated with old south slave owning, it's kind of hypocritical to cry about it.

Think it's a damn shame that the "liberals are taking away the Ole Miss traditions", so let's just all take a break from the "OM is the only reason people think Mississippi is backward" ********.<div>
</div><div>Whether OM fans want to admit it, it's both. People who aren't from the South see Mississippi as the worst of the worst. This isn't new. Meredith chose to enroll at OM because he knew that if he could do it in a place as bad as Mississippi, then anybody, anywhere could do it. The NAACP initially refused to help him and suggested he try it in either Arkansas or Tennessee because Mississippi was the most dangerous. Some older AA people from the South see Oxford and think of race riots. I knew AA kids at OM, from Jackson, whose grandparents begged them not to go to OM because they thought they would get lynched. </div><div>
</div><div>I knew white kids from California who thought that Mississippi (all of Mississippi) was going to be like Mississippi burning until they got here. The perception is there regardless of one's race or location, and itis much bigger than a bullshitMississippi State v. OM pissing match. We (OM and Mississippi State) both need to work hard to try and improve this perception instead of wallowing in it or throwing mud at each other.</div>

Come on. They don't come to Miss because our football programs have sucked. Nutt needs to shut up, saddle up and ride into the sun light. How many top 25 classes did Nutt have while at Ole Miss? That's BS on nutt's part. The bottom line is he could not coach and he is given one last jab at the State.

but some of you are too deluded to understand that. Hell, outside of the South 90% of the country doesn't know the difference between MSU and OM.

"Ole Miss" will ALWAYSbring negative images for African-Americans.

If either State or Ole Miss had won as much as Auburn or LSU over then race suddenly would not be a problem.</p>

Do any of you idiots even know what the school is NAMED AFTER??? They are named after a SLAVE OWNERS WIFE. This is pure fact. Of course black athletes would think that UM is a racist school.

What Nutt says is true. UM has a racist image nationwide but once you get the kids on campus, they are able to see that it is not as bad as they think it is.

MSU absolutely does NOT have that image. We are a much more culturally diverse school.

..recruiting out-of-state minority athletes.

Masoli was of minority ethnicity, & Nutt convinced Masoli to attend UM. That's one example out of dozens.

Nutt has hit a rough patch in life where he feels like the victim. So the self-pitying victim takes a dig at the state of Mississippi because bitter failures like Nutt always need to create a scapegoat.

And selfishly, I know that the term "Ole Miss" must help us just slightly with recruiting.

"liberals are taking away the Ole Miss traditions."

Liberals haven't done **** to Ole Miss traditions.

It's the white conservatives that run Ole Miss that have forced OM to drop most of your racist paraphernalia & symbols of hate.

for the most part.<div>
</div><div>I don't know who he meant, but the entire state has the backward, racist image to the rest of the country.</div><div>
</div><div>I don't really agree with him regarding recruiting though; look at the make up of both the MSU and OM teams and compare that to, say, Nebraska.</div>

Mississippi has the highest percentage of African-Americans, more than any other state. Hard to get black kids to come to Ole Miss? Yes, it's the least diverse school in the SEC. MSU? It's the most diverse... I don't buy "Mississippi is racist"...

Reading is fundamental. Whoever made this about you?

Better yet, tell me which of your traditions aren't racist. While you're waiting for stupid answers ....
