Anyone here tried the insanity workout? Looking to do something a little more than running or the gym.

I was about to finish it this week except I got a killer ingrown toenail so I'm having to put off finishing it for a week. The individual workouts are hard but overall the program is easy. It's also light on the time commitment compared to, say, P90X. You'll spend 40 or so minutes per workout in the first 5 weeks and then 55-65 in the final four weeks. One thing I was surprised at was how much muscle I gained given its reputation for being cardio intensive. There's a fair amount of anaerobic work involved, especially with intense jumping and an assload of plank/pushups.

I am currently doing insanity asylum volume 2. I like it because it is mostly cardio but he also does a lot of weights in asylum 2.

I always

get a good laugh out of questions related to PT. if you want a program to work, maintain a proper diet and keep the activities constant. Don't ever give that up. Physical training and appropriate calories = great shape.

I used the cardio abs on insanity and lost 5 inches on my waistl Its not a

program most people will do unless they are extremely self motivated. Download it free on pirate bay.

I'm sorry. I had an 8 week insanity workout a while back, and I don't feel like doing it again.

I didn't like it. Don't get me wrong, I was in great shape, but it was too high impact for my taste. 6 days a week, a ton of jumping, and tile floors just added up to a lot of sore joints. I agree with what others have said, the workouts themselves are intense and if you push yourself give great results, I just think plyometrics 6 days a week is a bit much for me.

UpTheMiddle nailed it-- cardiointensive, not much resistance training, less time commitment than P90X. No perfect system out there. P90 has almost no cardio except for plyo (the kenpo punching/kicking doesn't get my heart rate past 130). The time commitment is much less for Insanity, but there is minimal resistance training and not nearly as much muscle building--look at the students--the women look like skinny models, the men mostly look like cyclists. Most P90 programs are about an hour, and the yoga one is over 1 1/2 hours. The followup P90X products (10 minute work out, P90X2, etc) just don't seem to be as addictive as the original. The P90x ab workout is still the best I have found--"He's making contact! He's making contact!"

I bought a few rubber garage matts and they work wonders. My joints are never sore after the workouts. DO NOT any jumping work out on hard surfaces. Get foam or rubber matts

Another thing to add about P90X vs Insanity is that you'll basically have your hardest week on P90X the first week (though it can be argued the strength training videos on phase 2 are marginally harder) whereas Insanity ramps things up with week 1 being a piece of cake and the final week being killer. That can be a good thing for P90X since you'll know what your time commitment will be like each day (except for the recovery weeks), but it also leads to monotony. I've quit P90X twice because it takes too much time and lost interest, but I'm about to actually finish Insanity. If you're a Type-A person go with P90X and if you're type B go with Insanity.

I'll probably pick up P90X again (and actually be ready for it) this fall after another Insanity cycle. Or maybe build a hybrid program that has some variation to the workouts and keeps workouts to less than an hour a day.

That's why I only do these types of workouts 2-3 times per week...

About the only way someone can take that kind of pounding for that many days week in and out is a lightweight (less than 200 lbs.) and/or someone in their teens/20s. Moderation is the key. Just mix a few sessions in with normal weightlifting and cross training and you will still get results.

Finished insanity and moved on to the Insanity Asylum Volume 2. I highly recommend Volume 2 to anyone wanting to increase the intensity of your workout and see results a lot more quickly. If you’ve never done Insanity or Asylum Volume 1 then it would probably be in your best interest to complete those first. However, since most people on the thread have done insanity and are probably in great shape, going straight to Vol.2 is definitely a good idea.

BTW don't try to download it free... Great way to get yourself a computer virus.
