Word.If Ledford would catch deep balls they would be up by 21 in the first half. OG DB's cannot run with #20.
I was closeLedford has played NOBODY!!! OG by 10
Lots of penalties to be sure. Not a fan of the late hit call… but I’m not a fan of the two penalties on Oak Grove. One being the “roughing the punter” call. Oak Grove wasn’t even trying to block the punt. There should have been a call on one of the last extra points where the Ledford kid doge right at the ankles of the kicker and put him on the ground. Dangerous, but no call. A lot of Ledford’s penalties couldn’t have been ignored since they were offsides and illegal procedure. Plus the ineligible procedure call too. Officials can’t ignore those calls. They are what they are. This was such an intense game and with so much on the line, its a shame the refs couldn't let them play instead of tossing laundry every other play. Plus, some of the flags should not have been called, especially the late hit that was called on Ledford on the sidelines when the Oak Grove ball carrier was visibly still in bounds. Oak Grove had a questionable call or two go against them, too, so it wasn't one sided, but did appear Ledford had more " costly " penalties called against them. Overall, a great game and both squads showed a tremendous amount of grit.. Good luck to both squads entering the playoffs.
Agreed. Ledford may very well be the better team. I don’t want to see them in the playoffs.Ledford also had two very costly ineligible receiver calls, one of which cost them an almost sure touchdown. They were plays where linemen leaked downfield on RPO's, but the ball was thrown deep and they weren't even in position to block for the receiver. But as PrepFanNC says, you still have to call them, even if they don't affect the play.
I'm really happy to see Oak Grove win, but I have to believe that Ledford wins the game if they clean up the penalties. I hope OG doesn't see them in the playoffs.
I Just went back and watched for the penalties as there were plenty. This was such an intense game and with so much on the line, its a shame the refs couldn't let them play instead of tossing laundry every other play. I don’t think any team in the MPC has the horses to get past the second round this year. After this game, any thoughts if these teams can make any noise in the playoffs?
I’ve seen both play I know a lot about each team and many of the players. I’m an OG fan and would love nothing better than to see them go far but realistically… hoping to get to 2nd round. Not sure either can do better than that. HOWEVER, I didn’t think Salisbury could win the whole thing and they did. OG has had their number for few years and beat them the year the won it all so I’m not too good with my picks. LolAfter this game, any thoughts if these teams can make any noise in the playoffs?
It's just so hard to compare to the rest of the state, but my gut feel is that nobody in this conference is going deep. I'd love to be wrong. After this game, any thoughts if these teams can make any noise in the playoffs?
I almost for Ledford played them last year and OG almost beat East Lincoln first round.agree. I think Dudley beats Ledford or OG by 21ish at least.
Many of those 46 wins are when North was 4A and Ledford was 2A. Not sure that’s worth bragging over. Cant fault Ledford for playing a weak schedule when North was playing 2A teams when they were 4A…..and I’m not coming from either schoolNorth made the third round last year. With a good seed I could see OG getting there. But being made from ND and Ledford OG has the same weakness both of them do: lack of speed in the secondary. So when they play a team with burners they'll be in trouble.
That said I haven't seen anyone from any of these teams predicting states since they moved up to 3A. OG still has to prove they can win more than one playoff game before anyone expects anything. They beat 3 average 4A teams but at least they tried to prepare themselves. And to their credit West Forsyth has looked much better the last few weeks.
Ledford hurts themselves by scheduling weak teams out of conference and not bring prepared for big games. Their history says as much. They are on the wrong side of 46-6-1 against ND and haven't beaten OG except when OG was juniors and sophomores.
North ironically hurt themselves by scheduling tough opponents but not winning any of them because now they're in a situation where they may not even make the playoffs due to the RPI system. It all hinges on the next two games.
North was 2A in the 60s and 3A in the 70s to the mid 80s and only became a mainstay in 4A after 2001. Not much difference... Ledford grew to 3A in the mid 2000s and still got beat badly. Ledford became somewhat relevant after being horrendous forever because the Thomasville City School District was frozen and they have benefited from it ever since. Three wins when Brad Hoover was there and three since. Ball Park road kids and kids closer to Tville go to Ledford. Many of those 46 wins are when North was 4A and Ledford was 2A.
