I feel like it proves that he's thoroughly conservative despite his claims of being neutral because how could you not know these things unless you're never exposed to them? I'm willing to bet he has FoxNews running in the background 24/7.
I am conservative, I have said this many times. Not disingenuous. I just understand how the Congress/government works. Did it for decades. In congressional activity, not all is as it seems on the surface. There are tons of bills dropped which make the drafters feel good, but have zero chances of every being passed. There were provisions in the "bipartisan bill" that would have never made it through the entire process. Did Trump kill it for political reasons? I have no reason not to believe it, there are too many who say he did. But you guys make too much of this IMO, there are leaders of both parties who interject themselves into the process to either kill or support legislation. Happens all the time. Is Trump better at leading Congress? Absolutely. He's a stronger leader, bigger personality that Biden. Did Biden never weigh in with members of Congress on his priorities? If you think no, then you're naive. So trump was a former president who pushed senators to get what he wants. Think Obama has never weighed in with senators on things he wants? Or how about former senators or representatives. Some of these guys make their living off "influencing" their former colleagues. Heck, even every day citizens and more importantly heavy donors weigh in also. It's our form of government. But, in the end, Trump had no vote on this bipartisan bill, neither did Biden on the infrastructure bill or his stimulus bill, but to think these happen in a vacuum is naive.
Personally I did not like some of the provisions of the immigration bill. I did not want it to pass.
I don't watch much of fox news to be honest. I have found over the years that each network has its own bias and reports the news according to that bias. I'm more into finances so I watch some of CNBC, Fox business and bloomberg.
I don't get as excited about these political things as you guys do. As I said there are a lot of motives behind what members of Congress do. And, as I've said many times, just because Congress pass something and the president sign it into law does not mean it's the end of debate or action. There's always next year, or supplemental budgets or reprogramings, and even in some cases we ignore the laws.
Now I admit to one major weakness when I compare my posting with yours. I really have no ability to see what other people are thinking as you, Tboone and dpic, seem to be able to do. And, I can't see into the future as well as either of you. You two seem to have this ability to know just about everything correctly about why Trump does what he does, and of course to know that whatever he does is either wrong or done for some nefarious reason. I applaud you for that keen insight,. Very few people have that ability.
See, I know I'm not always right. I make mistakes. I sometimes agree with a political action, only to see a result and later change my mind. I'm not like you who can read posts on a board and determine, without any doubt, the intentions of another poster. It must be hard having to deal with someone who just might have a different opinion than yours and, without reflection, determine that other poster is duplicitous. I'm likely a little older than both of you and I'd be willing to bet have had many more experiences both in the business, military, international and legislative world than both of you combined.
I see things through my own prism. I think the federal government is too big and is incapable of managing large programs efficiently. I believe in states responsibilities and think that if a state wants high speed rail lines or increased medical benefits for its citizens it should pay for them. If they can't afford these things than maybe they shouldn't do them. I think a $37 trillion debt is too high. I think we should cut benefits and raise taxes to get closer to balanced budget. I believe everyone should pay federal taxes. All of us should have some skin in the game. I believe in a strong military and strict law and order. I believe we have to take care of those who need help, but don't think a one size fits all approach is effective. I'm on social security and Medicare. I think our government has been deficient in providing adequate funding. I think if you're in the country illegally that you should go home. I also believe our immigration system is antiquated and needs to be revised.
Ok that's enough. Sorry for the expansive post. But I tried to show a little of who I am, not who you might have determined I am. I don't think Trump is always right and I don't think Biden was always wrong. Life doesn't work that way. You two on the other hand seem to determine that Trump is wrong on everything. And, I think that's inaccurate. Just my opinion.
