Ohio State Underdog?

I know "Us against the world" is the oldest motivational trick in the coaching tool kit.
But I had a little bit of a snicker listening to Ryan Day get choked up and proclaim "Ohio against the world". Because a mush-mouthed old coach with a fixation on the damn Domers says something not complimentary about the Scarlet and Gray? Really?
They might not have been in the national championship discussion every year. But they haven't been a real underdog since before Woody Hayes buttoned up his windbreaker. At least.
The next time Ryan Day takes over a program with a real history of losing he can play that card.

Day is an *** and embarrassed himself, his team, and his school. Only osu faithful see it differently.

Holt's comments today should send him over the edge though

Ohio against the world is a pretty well known saying in the state of Ohio.

It’s not like he just randomly came up with that, people in Ohio eat it up.

Holtz is out of his mind! And a very sore loser! Cheating? really. Ok refs-we're calling time out now so our opponent can get their shi_ together.

When Day said it was OSU against the world, I said No, it is Rutgers against the world. Ohio State has most of the world on their side. We have NY on our side but we haven't given NY the opportunity to show the love yet.

I've never heard that and I've been here since 1989.

Holtz has how many natties? nuff said

Not a Holtz fan but Day can't even win big games at OSU
True but Holtz is a hundred years older. Time will tell. Anyway, championships certainly doesn’t exempt him from being an ***.

Since when did the world care that much about Ohio?

Marble mouth has exactly one national championship. That’s it. Don’t make it out like he’s got lots of them!

Day is 49-6 as a head coach, and was runner up in the nation championships a few years ago. He is easily going to surpass the old fart when it’s all said and done.

And Holtz got it via polls. There was no championship game. Any anytime it's a poll ND has an advantage. Just look at any preseason poll

And OSU recruits nationally. They wouldn’t be a top five team otherwise.
When you're a Top Dog there are fewer routes you can take to motivate your team but it always sounds silly to hear programs with all the advantages try to act like they're underdogs. WE are an underdog program, and it's actually not an enviable position at all.

Yes. Rutgers was playing Colgate when OSU was winning Nattys with Woody Hayes. This was until the Jan, 1976 Rose Bowl when Dick Vermeil taught Woody that the forward pass was now a viable option in football and could be used as a true weapon. This game ended Woody’s perceived “dominance” although Woody would continue to coach for a few more neck-punching years.

Not too many more years, if I recall correctly.

I was watching the game when it happened and was probably shocked as much as the Clemson player he hit.
For those who complain about how things are allegedly going downhill and people becoming creeps. Things were always like that. A legendary coach punches an opposing team player. 40 years ago.
