I remember him well. The Fosbury Flop changed the game and is still the dominant style used for high jumping. What a maverick!

What happened to the US in Boxing? We use to be pretty good in that.

Muhammad Ali getting his brains knocked out. The emergence of avatar, and concussion awareness. We've lost interest in the sport.

NBC has moved Boxing to their C and D channels to cover it this year, and I've just been lucky to catch some matches when switching stations. US just doesn't care that much about Boxing anymore. Look at the London Olympics, I think the whole team that wear just won five bouts.

Boxing always has the worst/most controversial judging. Roy Jones Jr. approves of this post.

I understand sometimes they fall forward from the excessive lean at the line but doing a blatant dive seems a bit much. jmo

Yes. Much like there's a limit to the amount of wind aid a world record can have, there should be a limit on the amount of forward lean past vertical -- I propose no more than 5 degrees -- that a winner can have at the tape. Otherwise, the runners with longer torsos have an unfair advantage.

Those runners already have an "unfair" advantage because of longer legs.

Aside from swimming, and we hope eventually basketball, the American men on the Olympics team have not been all that stellar. Gymnastics, track and field, boxing, rowing, cycling, feats of strength -- fairly mediocre. I hope the US committee endures a ruthless critique and makes appropriate changes at the coaching level.

Comes down to the effects of Title IX. Untold men's Olympic sports have been eliminated in colleges to achieve parity in numbers. Men's football skews the numbers big time.
