Then Coughlin went slack and Shockey became an A-hole.
When OBJ got a little flaky Coughlin was conditioned to go limp again and OBJ got flakier.
OBJ was never the jerk Shockey was and he could have been corrected
Tom always looked lost when it came to players who needed a nudge here or there.

Yeah he is coming off his second ACL surgery and is often injured. Plus he's on the wrong side of 30 now. I loved Coughlin but he should've been harder on Odell. I remember after he visited the Giants late in the season and people wanting to sign him, then the plane video comes out of him being the clown that he is and Giants fans remembering what a clown he is. Keep him away I say. Hopefully get a reliable FA and one in the draft. I liked Wandale but he had his surgery mid December. I doubt he is ready for the start of the season. May be a lost second year for him.

He was good in early years but slightly overrated.
Antonio Brown was the WR people though OBJ was
Brown had epic stats/plays in those days
Odell made the great catch with the "tactified surface" gloves the NFL was in process of debating banning at the time.

I still think Plaxico was Giants best WR of last couple decades
Too bad he effed-up - might have had another SB title

Lot of fan comments like Sterling move
He's cheap when the Giants are so tight they squeak
If he's healthy for a year he's a good deal
He might not even start so less risk.
Jones and Shep work well together historically.
Giants probably draft some interesting WRs

Huge if though but I agree. A well liked guy/player within the organization.

Nick Gates to Washington. 3 years for $16.5 mil., $1.5 additional incentives, $8 million guaranteed. With his injury history I'm not sure I'd pay that much. IOL was always a priority in the draft, now even more so.

I never heard of him but at a glance he looks good because he's not hurt a lot.
Runs a 4.58 with 34.5 arms and 10 1/8 hands - huge stats for a LB - good for keeping blockers away.
He "only" benched 16 reps which means he's not a juicer (and long arms don't help) and that is good for health. Juicers often have weird things happen to them (pecs, biceps, triceps ripping off etc)

The new interior DL - Rakeem Nunez-Roches - is a character.
Says he loves football and I believe him.
He and Thibodeaux are going to be interesting duo personality wise

I'm not sure I would equate the lack of strength as a positive for not juicing. 16 seems to be very low for a LB'er no matter how you look at it.

It is low - but more and more players are lifting less heavy weight since Stanford revolutionized its S&C training and got rid of most heavy lifting. Stanford is where new LB played.

Stanford started de emphasizing heavy lifts and their injuries went down almost 70%

"Turley pays particular attention to his players’ Functional Movement Screen scores. The F.M.S. is a durability index, what Turley calls “a predictive, quantitative analysis of quality of movement.” That is the first test he conducts. It evaluates seven movements and scores players as balanced, functional, overpowered, dysfunctional and injury prone. It shows if a player executes a movement better with his left leg than his right, pointing out asymmetries.

Although Stanford players may not perform as well in the bench press, or in the 40-yard dash at the N.F.L. combine, they often top the charts on F.M.S. scores."

Looks like the Giants are signing WR Paris Campbell from the Colts to a 1 year deal. Had a good 2022, has a lot of speed and injury problems prior to '22.

I was reading he has talent. That being said the Giants are one of the most injured teams in the league, if not the most injured team year in and year out. The two guys they just got in Waller and Campbell have a history of injuries. Im not to confident they play 17 games combined. The Waller contract has no guaranteed money after this season I read so that is a easy out if it dosent work out. Hoping for the best. I heard Slayton resigned too.

Indeed I'm suspicious about NYG injuries.
Who are the coaches/trainers and what kid of equipment are they using?
Targeting individual muscles is popular but it can lead to muscle viruses and injuries.
Too many guys do leg exercises they dont need
  1. Biomechanical error. Biomechanical errors are commonly responsible for many chronic injuries and occur when the structures within the body are not functioning as they should. A common biomechanical error is muscle imbalance. This is where one muscle, or group of muscles, is either stronger or more flexible than its opposing muscles. This can occur on the left and right sides of the body the the front and back of the body.

Hopefully the new surface rectifies some of that. Cheap *** Mara and Tisch waited for the NFLPA to demand a change.

Ahhh, how come the Jets didn't have the same amount of injuries?
I'm guessing you know they both play on the same field.

Maybe not as much as the Giants but the Jets for the last 3 yrs. had plenty of injuries to some good players. NFLPA brought up the problem/stats and it wasn't chalked up to mere bad luck. My thinking the NFLPA knows more about this than you and me or any other fan.

The Giants, Jets, Lions, Vikings, Saints, Colts and Bengals all play on the same type surface -
Slit Film Turf, I wonder what their injuries are like. ( not Giants or Jets )

Jets have definitely been involved as well. It's effected both teams and their opponents.

Didn't the 49ers play here twice that year?

You can get hurt more on bad teams too.
A RB who gets stood-up/boxed-in at the line takes shots from all directions.
Being locked-in place, their bodies dont have a lot of "give."
A pro QB once told me the hits that hurt the most aren't the dramatic ones
Same on defense since a DB and LB get hit more if the line is weak

I was talking to a WR in the NFL once. He told me those shots that just look crazy on TV usually are not the ones that hurt. His take was if he took a massive hit and he was not planted at the time- those were the ones on espn but never hurt unless your head hit the turf wrong. But have even a single foot planted- rose were the ones that got you.,,

Indeed - and lots of times its OL taking those stationary hits in the back from their own teammates. stuck behind them.

I remember when Chas Dodd got hit he was so small he went flying through the air like a bug.
Savage on the other hand was like a big tree that took full force

Right now the Giants don't have a Center on there roster. I know the coaching staff loves Feliciano but he isn't any good IMO. He is a backup. The IOL was a major week spot for them last year, pretty much the whole OL was outside of Thomas. Asking a rookie to come in and start at Center is risky. Hopefully they upgrade outside of Feliciano.

Feliciano to the 49ers. This surprised me as the coaching staff spoke highly of him. He wasn't that good though. Giants really need IOL help

I cant say I focused in on him much but I did once see him miss an "easy" block in the red zone where Giants should have scored. I remember thinking Feliciano didn't seem too good
